We would not get fair value if we traded Mobley.

And if we traded the Cat, Steve Francis would be sure to follow.

Don't you mean a 50% chance of maybe?

The only guy I would trade Cat for in the draft is Kwame Brown.

    This sounds like fun...

    Rockets trade:
    Steve Francis

    Wiz trade:
    #1 pick
    Jahidi White

    Then after that trade...

    Rockets trade:
    13th pick
    23rd pick
    Cato

    Grizz trade:
    Shareef Abdur-Rahim

    New Lineup
    Jahidi White/Jason Collier
    Kwame Brown/Kenny Thomas
    Abdur Rahim/White Thunder/Williams
    Cuttino Mobley/Forte
    Moochie/Forte

I'll have Forte covering for both Moochie and Cat.

    Defense - 1-3-1 zone

What a sweet lineup that would be...

Geeez. What a weird thread! I sure hope the draft gets here quickly so board members are not such bored members. Then maybe realistic discussion will replace this off the wall speculation.

No Joke. I wonder if Utah Jazz Fans have broke into the CC system and started posting?

Trade Francis or Cuttino. Give me a PHUCKIN break. Anyone know what a CORE player is. Take either of these guys away and we are a 30 win team. I will not follow this team anymore if they trade Cat or Wink.

    Screw this Topic!!!

and i'm so sick of hearing espn say how steve should move to sg.
he's doing a fine job pging the team.

Trading Mobely at this point would be close to committing team suicide. If Mobley is as close to Francis as everyone says they are. The Rockets run the risk giving the Francis an reason to leave town as soon as possible. Plus why would you want to break up one of the better backcourt tandems in the league, especially while they are still young and have even more time to grow????

I am a big Rockets Fan. I am also a fan of the Rockets becoming a legitimate contender. It just doesnt sit right with me when we have become the THIRD Best team in our own state of Texas...or in other words the WORST team in Texas...according to the records last year, we are.

Hey its fun watching two similar short guys running around and shooting jumpshots but wasnt it just as good and even better when we had a well rounded team focused around a post oriented Offense (ala days of Kenny Smith, Cassell, Horry, Hakeem)...when we were actually IN the playoffs and winning Championships.

What i m saying is...Cuttino doesnt help the Rockets any other than his 19.5 pts/game. Isaiah Rider, Jim Jackson, Jerry Stackhouse..they all can score but they dont help a team win. Cat doesnt make his teammates better like what a TMac does, or a Cassell, or a Kidd. and he sure as heck doesnt play any defense...not at his height.

Oh... on this thread i've been hearing a lot of: "But Cuttino and Francis are one of the best Backcourts in NBA"

Ok...just think a few years back...remember Philadlephia 76ers' backcourt of PG Allen Iverson and SG Jerry Stackhouse. WOW, one of the best backcourts right?...afterall, they are both 29+ Pts/game players this year. I wonder why Philly broke them up.

So we improve the team with unproven lottery picks because Cat isn't that good? Am I in some alternate universe or something? Obviously he makes his teammates better, with a thin, depleted frontcourt our backcourt led us to 45 wins and within a few games of a playoff spot. But people want to blow it up, and get a draft pick, or a player that might not fit on this team? Do you know how long it takes for team chemistry to build? Do you know how hard it is for a 2-guard and a PG to form a bond and take over a game? We have the makings of an Isiah Thomas/Joe Dumars type backcourt and there are people that want to blow it for for lottery picks in one of the weakest, as far as impact players, drafts in years!? you want to replace Mobley with Webber? I would rather add other big men around our backcourt then trade away Francis and Mobley. So in other words, instead of keeping Mobley and Francis and building a team around them with our huge capspace, we break up the backcourt, suck up our cap space with Webber, and use a few draft in a weak draft to build the team. So instead of having Mobley, Francis, Mo, and capspace, we would have Francis, Webber, and no capspace. Brilliant plan!

Maybe they broke them up because they didn't win 45 games and almost make the playoffs like the Rockets did with Mobes and Franchise. It also didn't help that Stackhouse was a SG, and Iverson was a PG who wanted to be a SG. Call me when Francis runs two SG out of town because he wants to be a 2-guard, like Iverson did with Hughes and Stackhouse.

I'd have to look up past articles/reports...

But Iverson did not want to be a SG. Larry Brown wanted him to play SG. Iverson initially refused because he believed he could not be in control of the flow of the offense as much. Iverson didnt run out Hughes. Hughes and Iverson are very close friends, just as Cuttino and Franchise.

Anyways, LAST WORD: Sure, Francis can play PG. But if Rockets had a more Pass-first PG, they would get more Assists out of the Position, and Francis can focus on upping his average to 25pg or so. That would just leave Cuttino out.

Yeah, we had 45 wins last year. Its still no Playoffs.

    Just wanna win....

45 win still isn't the playoffs!? You're talking about a team that is rebuilding and went from 34 wins to 45 wins without a consistent frontcourt. The backcourt was the reason, and whether or not Iverson wanted to go to the SG spot or not, he RAN Stackhouse and Hughes out of there because he wanted to take their shots, essentially wanting the shots a 2-guard. You don't have to hate somebody to run them out. You may not mean to run them out, but you do when you want to expand your role, which is what Iverson wanted to do. And again, I would rather take a 45 win team, with huge cap space, and build around our strong backcourt and a talented PF in Mo, then blow up the team by trading the SG, and tying our capspace up in Webber, or trading Mobley away for draft picks in a weak draft.

You make it sound as if Cuttino Mobley is just some commodity that can be thrown around as trade bait. Keep in mind that he signed for less to be with this team, has moved his entire family down to Houston, and is loved by the coaching staff and players alike. Wouldn't look too good if they traded Cat, and the possibility of him being moved is slim and none, especially with Rudy at the helm.

The Iverson analogy is a bad one. Aside from the fact that Brown wasn't even the 76ers coach his rookie year, if Iverson truly wanted to be a point guard like you say then he wouldn't have broken the rookie scoring record with 5 games of 40 points or more. He did run Jerry Stackhouse out of town, and they were never considered a great backcourt as much as they were considered great individual players. Stackhouse had animosity towards Iverson from the moment they stepped on the floor together.

It's laughable how good the Rockets backcourt is. They carried this team to 45 wins with no inside presence for the majority of the year. You don't break up that kind of chemistry.
