"Brace yourself" could mean we're trading Hakeem. Hate to start that as a rumor but that would definitely be a major deal to brace for. ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
Great point SamIam. What else is there to brace ourselves for. We know Steve and Cat are untouchable so you could very well be right on. If so, it will be a very bittersweet ending for Dream, but I guess that's the nature of this shrewd Lezalexander business. ------------------
I think we're all going to have to face the fact that Dream will probably be traded at some point this season. From a business point of view, it only makes sense. Dream has already publicly, given the team permission to trade him. There are only two major free agents next year, Finley & Webber. We for all practical purposes, don't have a real chance at Webber & Cuban will pay Finley the maximum, because he can. So, that leaves a trade as the most likely way to improve the team dramatically. Cap space does you no good if there are no free agents worth having & draft picks will take a year or two to develop. Shareef would be the best candidate, because his salary is only about 10 million, while Garnett's is about 19 million. Because Reeves would most likely be attached to Shareef, we would have to find a sucker... er, I mean another team in need of a center to trade him to. Trading Dream would accelerate the rebuilding process. Otherwise we get lots of cap space & will be in the same boat as Chicago. Well, not quite like Chicago. ------------------
I am a big time Olajuwon fan and would hate to see him leave, but if he decided to I wouldnt like him any less. If Hakeem wants it, then I think we should go for it. I mean, a chance like this hardly ever comes around. I think we could definitely be in the playoffs next year if our team consisted of... PG-Francis/Moochie SG-Anderson/Mobley SF-Shareef/Walt PF-Taylor/Thomas C-Cato/Collier/draft pick Im sure if Hakeem was on the Grizz he could average about what Shareef does and around 3 blocks as well, so this is an equal trade. How does the salary figures match up? ------------------ http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/houstonrockets2000
I think we would make the playoffs THIS season if Shareef was a Rocket. The problem is, I would like the Rockets a lot less if Hakeem was traded. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Trades are supposed to benefit both teams. Abdur Rahim is not coming to Houston. Imagine Vancouver letting go of both Francis and Reef to Houston...a PR nightmare. We need to be more realistic. Our only real trade bait that anybody would consider taking are: Mid to late 1st rounders Kenny Thomas Carlos Rogers Hakeem Olajuwon Kelvin Cato This won't bring in a superstar, folks. It'll fetch us a role player at best. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
If a trade does go down in a week or so like Clutch said, we'll play three games with our current lineup. Most likely go 1-2, leaving us 17-19 with 14 games to go before All Star Break to get used to the new squad and for Rudy to set his rotation. Looking at the those 14 games we could easily go 9-5, putting us at 26-24 at the break. If it's Shareef like I hope it is, I could see us finising 48-34 and either the 7th or 8th seed. ------------------
It HAS to be a 3-way.....Cause Hakeem doesn't want numbers, stats, and all that crap....He wants to be on a team that will be a contender and has no true 5.... Could be: Bucks (Tim Thomas) Knicks (Houston/Rice?) Suns (Marion/Robinson/Gugliotta?) Denver (if LaFrentz is included) Detroit (J-Williams?) Orlando (Doleac/Amaechi) Toronto (Davis?) ------------------
There is only one reason for a team to acquire Dream - clearing cap space. With Webber, Finley, and Mutombo the only big time FA's next year, how would this benefit the Grizz? Getting rid of Reeves only increases the $ - who are they gonna spend it on? I can't imagine Dream and some underachievers and/or a pick for SAR. Vancouver will easily get better offers. Ben Wallace, Tony Battie, and Aaron Williams seem more plausible candidates. Raef LaFrentz is possible, but the Nuggs are just starting to jell and might not want to shake up chemistry (and Dream has never played well in the higher elevations). A VERY long shot would be Theo Ratliffe. The only Rockets who are "tradeable" are either injured or playing poorly. Bottomline for me is that if anything goes down, it's gonna be at least a 3 teamer (SAR to PHX, Marion to Rocks, PHX & HOU players and picks to the Grizz?). ------------------ GATER [This message has been edited by GATER (edited January 07, 2001).] [This message has been edited by GATER (edited January 07, 2001).]
I can't see the Rockets trading Dream unless they get something signifagant in return. You don't give up all that cap space next year for a roll player. We are going to want someone that has a chance to be a major contributer at a postition of need (Shareef at small forward or someone at the 5 spot). While Dream and some draft pics may not seem like much, look at what you are doing for your team for next season. You are adding what will probably be a lottery pic and a very large amount of cap room to chase free agents. Vancouver is talking about a total overhaul. So what would be most important to them? Cap space and draft pics. Dream gives them tons of cap space next year, perticularly if Vancouver could send over another salery or two with Shareef. ------------------
Ok let me get in this. Here is what I know will happen. Hakeem is getting traded, Walt is getting traded, and maybe Carlos Rogers. Rockets will get Shareef and something. Rudy really liked Sharref in hte Olympics, he talked about how he liked his game. This is what it is. CLUTCH GIVE IT TO ME ? AM I RIGHT OR AM I RIGHT? ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris fan club & Vice President of the Jason Collier fan club!
We will not be trading for Tony Battie. He is currently out with an injury suffered last week and he will be out of action 6-8 weeks. I hope it is Shareef! ------------------
I've just heard some news you guys will not believe. Here it is: Some time next week the Rockets will trade Matt Bullard, Jason Collier, and Pig Millers contract for Bo Outlaw. Nothing major, but it will give us the rebounder we need. ------------------
Don't beleive everthing that psychic tells you. My advice is stop calling her and save your money from all those 1-900 calls! ------------------
Well great little thread!! One thing we do know is that a trade is being dicussed. But trades are discussed all the time. One thing we know is that Vancouver wants an overhaul of thier team. They need some veterans. Its no secret the Grizzleys are seriously looking to trade some of their players. The Rockets have Hakeem who still wants to be the center and a guy who will resign next year for considerable less money, is only 36 and can play in an offense that resemble what the Rockets used to run. With Hakeem the Grizzleys have a prototypical point guard in Bibby. The Grizzleys have Dickerson who is a great pure shooter. And if Kenny Thomas is included in the deal, the Grizzleys have a solid core. But is this realistic. I think that if this trade goes down, it is a huge trade. I think this has a 5% chance of going down. Of course with none of us actually knowing. One thing, don't set your hopes too high on this trade actually going down. Can lightning strike 4 times in Houston? Drexler, Barkley, and Francis! A. Rahim? ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
For the record, Hakeem will be 38 on January 21st. I have never read anywhere what he considers his market value to be IF he continues to play. ------------------ GATER
I guess I could see Bo Outlaw with them being set with Mike Miller and Pat Garrity at the 3(Im thinking that Bo plays a small forward right?)I just dont think it is Bo Outlaw. When Clutch said brace yourselves, immediately I was thinking Hakeem is gone. I just got the feeling he was saying people used to think of Hakeem when they thought of the rockets and that is soon going to change. Vancouver is definitely the team I see involved in this trade but I DONT for some reason think we are getting Hakeem. Now that I think of it, It's quite possible it's a 3 way between Houston/Vancouver/Phoenix where Phoenix gets Shareef, vancouver gets Hakeem, and we get MARION! They said a good rebounder and he's like what number 10 in the league? He's young and he might even be a better fit than shareef. With Penny coming back, Tony delk looking solid at backup for them at the 1 and the 2, and cliff robinson probably clocking more time at the 3 with gugliotta's return it makes sense that they might trade Marion. He's a damn good player but they are not losing anything acquring shareef. Also, you have to remember that the Grizzlies owner is probably trying to lose so much money that the league has to take action and move the team, so making a trade like this in which he wont get the large end of the stick is no big deal to him.Can you imagine having Marion on the rockets? We'd be a force. Obviously there would be other low key players involved and probably draft picks and cash but I think it might work.Just to throw this in there, anybody think the Hawks are gonna be in on this deal instead of the teams I mentioned? Motumbo's been playing like a madman lately and with the major youth renevation going on there I couldnt definitely see them being a player in this somehow, but I HOPE the deal I mentioned for Marion would happen. ------------------

Does this mean we should look back is this thread for declarative statements that Clutch could "retract"....hmmmm! 2 + 2 = ? Who says math isn't fun?
