I agree with HP -- I get a weird vibe with this Hakeem IR stuff. I think its fishy. Not that they might not someday rename the Injured Reserve list the Hakeem Olajuwon Injured Reserve List, but -- for once -- Hakeem being on the IR seems odd. Who thinks he has played his last game in a Rocket uni? That would be tough to swallow ... CBFC ------------------
well, a slight retraction is in order. Hakeem did get quoted on 610 about going on IR. For the life of me, I couldn't understand one sentence out of his mouth. But I did hear the words, "no conspiracy", "whatever the doctor's say", "don't make a big deal." He sounded like he was telling the media to not make a big deal about it. But Feigan come on later saying Hakeem doesn't want to go to IR, and he is upset. Feigan's guess is that Rudy wants to give the 2 young centers 5 games without Dream to get back into things. Whatever...still sounds like a cover-up. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited January 09, 2001).]
Catched this bit of info at rotonews.com: Olajuwon had a good workout at Saturday's shootaround and could join the team on its road trip beginning Tuesday in Toronto. He will test his right knee at Monday's practice before a decision is made. Let´s keep the ball running in our speculation game folks! ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
I hope not. I don't like the stench of a fake injury, where Dream is concerned. If Hakeem is our best center, and healthy, Rudy should play him. If he's hurt, put him on the IR. If he's not helping the team, sit him on the bench, trade him, or waive him. But by all means, don't lie about an injury and expect us to believe it. It does the franchise, and the fans, a disservice. ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
Havent the rockets normally announced in-season trades right before the start of a game--ala the clyde one--i dont remmeber if i am correct exactly--anyway, just trying to get an idea when something, if anything, might be announced. ------------------ "There are some frauds so well conducted that it would be stupidity not to be deceived by them." Here is my speculation (for what it's worth): 3 way trade involving Bulls, Grizzlies and Rockets. Rockets give up their rights to Chicago's potential 1st round pick acquired via the Drew trade. Chicago gives Houston their 2nd round pick in 2001 draft. Chicago gives their reacquired 1st round pick and Fizer to Grizzlies. Grizzlies give Houston back their 1st round pick acquired in the Francis trade. Grizzlies send Abdur-Rahim to Bulls. There will be throw-ins if necessary to make this work cap wise. Benefits: Rockets reacquire their 1st round pick and get a high 2nd rounder for their assistance in making this trade happen. It is not feasible to expect that the Rockets will ever get the Bulls 1st rounder. Bulls get the young SF they need and reacquire one of their 2nd round picks owed the Rockets. Grizzlies get another young player and the potential number one pick in the draft for a player that apparantly doesn't want to be there. ------------------
I think it is C Webb. The Kings are nerveous that they can't keep him. C. Webber N. Anderson some more throw ins for Dream M. Taylor W. Williams draft picks Haven't ran the numbers, but anything is possible when dreamcasting. ------------------ "...Do you hear 'em? They're everywhere!!! AAAHHH!!!" This is what I was thinking. Freeing up cap space is one thing, but there's got to be somebody else out there that can offer better and still help free up cap space. ------------------ "Christ, it's not as if Steve pissed on a guy!!!!!" -- cson makes a return to my quotable sig as he comments on how Steve Francis should not be T'd up for slapping the backboard on a dunk...speak loudly cson, you rock!
I know that the select few who post on this website might accept a Hakeem trade, but I wonder about the rest of the fans who don't follow the Rockets as closely. I don't think they would support trading Hakeem. He happens to get the loudest cheers during the starting lineup intros. I am starting to wonder if the Rockets would risk losing fans by trading the Dream. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Yes, Vancouver is getting better offers for Shareef Abdur Rahim than Hakeem + Walt? Fizer? (via 3-way Chicago) + top 20 draft picks. Portland has been playing Bonzi Wells in efforts to trade him for SAR. But don't make no differ'n'ce none. Taint gwan'ta hap'n. Bskball.com (I know, not always accurate) posted the price for Shareef will be Big Country. Conceivably, Portland could make that deal. But who would the Blazers send? You think Dale Davis/Shawn Kemp hate their current situation, stick them in Canada and hear them howl. Not that Vancouver would do the deal. If Vancouver deals with us, the Grizz land 1) a vet who'll like the city 2) a vet who can tutor the center they draft for a year or two 3) draft picks that should pan out nicely (Tinsley, Forte, Morris, et al, should be available in the top twenty of the draft). Conceivably, Vancouver could have their own pick and Chicago's pick (Bibby?) (possible top fives), ours and Milwaukee's (top 20), depending on how this plays out. If it plays out. I don't know if we have seen signs of the apocalypse. Hakeem wants to play, looks good, is told to have a seat, please? Collier finally about to play? What timing! Cato still out when it was reported he could have played by now? A handshake deal in place? These might not be the "Four Horsemen", but if Hakeem goes, I would guess the trade would be announced just before---and consummated just after---a Rox home game. This Saturday? Toronto, national TV, the 16th? (Of course, there might be no graceful way to handle this, especially if we want him to pass his physical: can't have him twisting an ankle and blowing the deal.) ------------------
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING! I mean, most of us here can see the advantages and the disadvantages of trading Hakeem, but who wants to be the one to go out there when Dream gets traded and tell the rest of Houston that Hakeem Olajuwon, The Dream, Mr.Clutch (not the one on this bbs ), the one who brought 2 rings to this town, the one that's been here for 16 yrs,........HAS BEEN TRADED???? Not me. ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
hmmm... anybody notice that Cato and Antonio Davis did not play? Could this be *the* trade in the works, while Davis may be old he has the defensive presence and rebounding we will miss when Hakeem retires next year. ------------------ http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/houstonrockets2000
ummm....I might be mistaking...but Antonio Davis has missed the past week and a half due to a groin injury... ------------------ The Titans are no ordinary football team. Well with Cato's high ankle sprain he wouldn't pass a physical so I doubt if he is part of a deal.
