I guess you're right. That's what I get for using my fingers & being too lazy to take my shoes off. Note to self: Self, always take shoes off & count toes also, when dealing with big numbers. ------------------
There is a big chance that Rahim is not going to be traded. I'm starting to think that the guy coming to Houston is Bo Outlaw. Defense!! Remember the old battle cry of the Rockets? I know you do and I know that you know that Rudy loves defense. This team needs some defense and Bo can come into the picture that way. ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
See, I knew that guy in the resturant wasn't saying Cole Slaw -- he was saying Bo Outlaw -- I knew it! ------------------
Actually if we package that in the 4 way deal it might give more leverage..... although from past performances the bulls might be afraid of the salary cap implications.... ------------------
OK, OK, this thread must be, to Clutch and Jeff, better than a copy of Hustler and a tube of K-Y. Come on, give us a hint. Is this trade gonna be two-team? Menage a trois? Underwhelming? Overwhelming? Medium-whelm-done? Good-bye Hakeem? No, sorry: I didn't ask that. That's not a hint. At least tell us it's not for Austin Croshere. We don't need him anymore, we've got Mo. This Vancouver idea. Lukewarm? Or just (returning to my original topic) jerking off? ------------------
Clutch: The person that was implied to you, is it someone that we have been speculating about (whether recently or a while ago) or is it someone that we would not totally expect at all? just a lil hint plz ------------------ When 1 door closes another 1 open; but we so often look so long & so regretfully on da closed door, that we dont see the ones that be opening for us - alaskanSnowman
Nice question snowman, its the one that has been on all of our minds for the past week!!! ------------------
Just a thought for everyone... If Vancouver is really going to move Reef, don't you think they might get better offers than Hakeem for Reef and Reeves? I know they want cap room and no offense to the Dream, but there are better ways for them to become flexible and PLENTY of teams out there who would love a guy like Reef. Could this fall into the same category as Stoudamire? ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
Is the young player we are looking for Keon Clark? He is a good rebounder, can block shots and finish on the break by dunking the ball. ------------------
This trade talk is driving me insane. I can't even sleep. I usually just read these posts, but I have given into the dream-trade insanity. The three way trade with Phoenix and Vancouver mentioned in earlier posts makes a lot of sense, but I think it would be larger than the original talk of SAR to Phoenix and Marion to the Rockets. The deal: To Phoenix: Shareef Abdur-Rahim Kenny Thomas Kelvin Cato To Vancouver: Hakeem Olajuwon Chris Dudley A 1st round draft choice from Houston To Houston: Shawn Marion Bryant Reeves (sigh) Tom Gugliotta Othella Harrington Why Phoenix would do this deal: Phoenix obviously would hate to part with Marion, but there is pressure on them to win now and Reef brings similar skills and additional offense. They lose nothing. They would also get a defensive presence in the middle with Cato -- something they have been searching for (and it doesn't seem like the Mutumbo talks have been going their way.) Why Vancouver would do this deal: They get Hakeem's star status to help them survive the PR nightmare that is coming if they are really intent on this drop-the-salary-cap strategy. They ditch stiff (I mean Reeves.) Furthermore, they can drop Hakeem's $16.7 million next year and Dudley's $6.2 million contract is up the following year. They would also get the draft pick(s) they are pursuing and would clear more playing time for Swift. Why Houston does this deal: Marion. Marion. Marion. Enough said... They would also pick up Gugliotta who could split time at center with Stiff and at power forward. Gugliotta’s contract is up in 2003/2004, but he has an out in 2002/2003. Reeve’s contract is obviously a problem, extending until 2003/2004. Both, however, would be over before Francis must get the huge payday. The Rockets could still resign Anderson. The problem would be Mo. He would be gone. But at least with Gugliotta and Harrington, the Rockets would be solid at PF. We would still have to draft a competent center.
I feel that Chicago might be the only team involved with us in this trade - just a SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess). They need their pick back to free them up for other trades and Jerry has been given his ultimatum to make changes. I do not think that Olajuwon would be involved because the Bulls are not trying to win or clear cap space. I think Cato is the piece that Chicago is looking for. I would think that another more offensive minded player (Walt? or god forbid Bullard?) would need to be included for Chicago to bite. Then again, the freedom that getting their pick back would allow might be enough. Other than Fizer, who would we want? ------------------
Maybe they'll listen to you, Jeff. I tried to make this same point like 80 posts ago, but it didn't sink in. ------------------ [This message has been edited by wrath_of_khan (edited January 09, 2001).]

They would have to trade about $12 million in value just to make space for Big Country ($10.1 million) and a player that would allow the deal to make sense. Not to mention bearing the Big Country albatross until 2004. If someone was willing to give value and take Big Country with Reef, the deal would already be done. In reality, there are only a handful of clubs that have the maneuvering room that would also meet Vancouver’s (supposed) need to lighten payroll costs. Can anyone think of another team that can offer what Houston can (besides Chicago, which is under the cap)? Of course, Chicago has that nasty problem with its #1 pick…
Damn man, SAR sounds too good to be true. I wouldn´t mind grabbing Reeves one bit. What good does capspace does these days? Webber and Finley aren´t coming here, and how many chances we have that a pick could become a player as good as SAR is? And he hasn´t even reached his potential yet! Othella would also be a nice bonus. Giving up the Dream? He has said that he wouldn´t mind being traded. Vancouver clears their capspace, stops the bleeding which is what they want, NOT winning, at least not now, and Hakeem could go to the Lakers or Miami next year as he has said before, as a free agent. It´s a win-win situation for everyone. It justs sounds WAY too good to be true. Even if it does makes sense. Man, i´m absolutely PSYCHED about this! Atlanta and Mutumbo? SAR has said he refuses to go to another rebuilding project. Ditto for Chicago. The Clips? Forget it. Portland? no way. Why would he want to be buried in their bench just like Dale Davis? Toronto scares me though. But i don´t feel that moving to another Canada team would appeal to him. Man, we actually HAVE a shot at this. When Clutch meant BRACE yourselves he couldn´t possibly mean a role player swap. I don´t buy that. Our history of making earth shattering trades year after year is about to show up again. Show me you can pull the rabbit out of your hat again CD. If Walt packs his bags too... Oh man... all we would need is a C in the draft and wrapping up Mo long term. I´ll keep my fingers crossed and hope this one comes true! Can you feel the E-X-C-I-T-E-M-E-N-T, Houston??? ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
Rockets 03, It's almost impossible to package a deal involving swaps of two byc players. The reason is when you're byc, you get more money coming in and half or 3/4 of that going out. Now unless a team's under the cap, trading 2 byc players probably won't happen cause both teams need to have more money come in on a trade, yet are sending out less, thus probably neither will meet the 15% rule. It's kind of like mutually exclusive or something. I hope this makes sense, and I could be wrong also.
So, doesn't anyone else feel like a cyst isn't a reason to not play much less go on IR for 5 games, especially when Bullard wakes up with back spasms all the time. hmmmm....I wonder what that reason could be. Don't trades require physicals, and thus injuries nix trades.... hmmmm...I wonder if the whole cyst doctor's visit really was cover-up for a physical...seems you would want a dream physical done in silence to clear him before any trade announcement....Remember Elliott. hmmm...not one quote from Hakeem about his cyst, or wanting to play, or anything. I understand it is a big no-no for a devote Muslim to lie, even white lies. hmmmm...I wonder if that big Interview from Hakeem, saying he wants to keep playing, was the organization and Hakeem softening us up....hmmmm. just thinking out loud...carry on. Of course they all could be false and Vancouver have no intention of trading SAR at all. But if Vancouver does want to clear cap room and stockpile 1st round draft picks then we have as good a chance as anyone. However, if Vancouver's intention is to clear cap room and get good cheap players in return without demanding a lots of draft picks, then ours chance of getting SAR is not that good. It is more fun to speculate on rumors that benefits us event when 99.9% of them will never happen. It is no fun to contemplate trades that help others. That line of thinking makes a lot of sense to me, Hp. Time will tell if you´re on the money, but it does sound somewhat likely. And that´s with me trying my best at NOT getting my hopes up. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
