Since we are speculating, here is my dream trade Vancouver trades: Othella Harrington $2,250,000 to Houston Vancouver trades: Shareef Abdur-Rahim $10,125,000 to Houston (BYC Value $7,593,750) TOTAL: $12,375,000 Chicago trades: Jake Voskuhl $316,969 to Vancouver Chicago trades: Khalid El-Amin $316,969 to Vancouver Chicago trades Marcus Fizer $2,562,000 to Vancouver Chicago trades Fred Hoiberg $880,000 to Houston Chicago trades Corey Benjamin $744,480 to Dallas TOTAL: $4,820,418 Houston trades: Kenny Thomas $885,120 to chicago Houston trades: Walt Williams $4,250,000 to chicago Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $5,333,333 to chicago (BYC Value $2,666,667) Houston trades: Hakeem Olajuwon $16,700,000 to dallas Houston trade their Orlando-1st round pick, Detroit-1st round pick, the Chicago's conditional pick(s) and Houston's own 1st round pick within next five year to Vancouver. TOTAL: $27,168,453 Dallas trades: Christian Laettner $6,736,111 to Vancouver Dallas trades: Shawn Bradley $8,370,000 to Houston TOTAL: $15,106,111 Why Dallas might do it ====================== They will not loose any cap space with Olajuwon next year and Hakeem could help them go deeper into the playoff. Why Chicago might do it ======================= Fizer is not going to help them as long as Brand is playing in Chicago. Cato will help them at center; Kenny Thomas is a more capable backup than Fizer and Walt is a better SF than what they have. Bull's salary for 2001-2002 is $14,480,837 (17,234,957 minus Fizers' 2,754,120) and Cato, Williams & Thomas (6,000,000 + 4,750,000 + 946,920) will increase that to only 26,177,757. They still have enough money to go after Michael Finley and Walt Williams will be off their cap after next year. http://www.realgm.com/getteamcap.php?team1=chicago Why Vancouver might do it ========================= If the rumors are true that they wanted draft picks and clear cap space then this is a good deal for them. They clear 10,970,880 off their cap; they get Fizer plus 3-4 first round draft picks. What is in it for us ==================== Obviously, Shareef Abdur-Rahim plus keeping our cap space for next year. The total salary for players under contract is ~27,591,467 for next year. http://www.realgm.com/getteamcap.php?team1=houston Players under contract for 2001-2002 after the trade =========================================== Jason Collier $1,280,067 Othella Harrington $2,475,000 Shareef Abdur-Rahim $11,250,000 Shandon Anderson $2,400,000 Steve Francis $3,473,520 Cuttino Mobley $4,412,880 Carlos Rogers $2,300,000 Free agents for 2001-2002 ========================= Maurice Taylor Moochie Norris Matt Bullard Dan Langhi It will probably cost us ~3,500,000 for our draft picks, ~1,000,000 for Norris and ~500,000 for Langhi. That should brings our team salary to ~32,591,467 for the season 2001-2002. If we could convince Shandon to hold on one more year for his bird rights, we should have about 7 to 9 M (depending on next year' cap) to go after Taylor or other free agent PF like Antonio Davis (I prefer Davis because he rebounds better and plays better defense). If Bullard is willing to play for 1,000,000 then we could sing him to the 10 years player minimum. Furthermore, we might be able to move up in the draft with Milwaukee and our pick for a good center. Our starter for next year could be : ==================================== C - (A lottery pick) PF - (Taylor or Davis) SF - Shareef Abdur-Rahim SG - Shandon Anderson PG - Steve Francis Bench Players : =============== C - Jason Collier PF - Othella Harrington SG - Cuttino Mobley PG - Moochie Norris C/PF - Carlos Rogers PF/SF - Matt Bullard SF - Dan Langhi
You sure went through a lot of effort to come up with this one seriously, though it´s well thought out, Vancouver will NEVER trade SAR without sending Reeves packing too. It´s their only shot at getting rid of that big oaf, and they won´t miss the opportunity. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
All you have to do is draft a Center. We have draft picks to trade. If that's not available we go after someone like Geiger...who is no longer needed in Phiadelphia. You've got to take Rahim and gamble that you can get a Center later. He's to gifted not to bring onboard. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
RM95, Sure enough! ESPN and CNNSI both have his b-day listed as 2/21/78. It's a dumb thing to argue about - let's just call him 45. Critics! ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
while, yes, i’d love to have SAR, as a second option, bo outlaw would make sense. He’s big ¾ that hustles his ass off, plays good defense, BLOCKS SHOTS and won’t be demanding much. essentially, he’s everything we need, except for a center . outlaw coming over would give shandon a backup 3, and allow us to further plant the wiz on the pine. he’d rid us of the problem of having motay attempting valiantly (though unsuccessfully) to be a shotblocker. Maybe motay could stay on the floor more than 30 minutes then. the only question becomes, what to do with kenny thomas? well, he’d still get minutes, as shandon IS a hackroid (and an overrated defender, but that’s another story). bo could take some of those backup 3 minutes. so you say bo can’t shoot? …and shandon can? at least bo can rebound like a madman. and did i mention he blocks shots? kenny, would really be on his last legs, if you ask me. this would be do or die time for him, because if he continues to struggle hitting layups with bo outlaw on board, we’ll have the blizz, the bull, and the brick picking up some major pine minutes. bo outlaw forces kenny to do something, or be nothing. i mean, really, what’s the point in bulking up to 265 if you can’t finish in the paint and want to shoot 3s? you’d have been better served losing 30 pounds and becoming a small forward. bring on bo!! (if we can’t get SAR, that is ). i’m sick of these no defense hackroids we have. shandon, kenny, walt, bull, etc. you all are HACKROIDS! and yea, so is motay, but at least he does one thing consistently – SCORE. and at least he draws a charge or 2 each game. and really, his D is not NEARLY as bad as some people make it out to be. I’m rambling. I’m hype. I’m out. ------------------
I think u all are nuts if you think SAR is coming here. No way can Vancouver be that stupid. I think its going to be a role player. Only if Fieck wasnt injured. That dude can rebound like a madman. ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! To point out individuals or teams that have managed to reach the pinnacle of SUCKINESS!!!!! ----- JAZZ SUCK!!!!!!!

I refrain from any further speculation about the nature of Clutch and Jeff´s relationship It just seems likely, i guess. You figure it out, Rocket Scientist. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
http://rocketdavo.tripod.com/ According to Davo, the Rockets will have about $5.75 million in cap-room after Olajuwon's salary comes off the books. He only made $16 million. SAR and Reeves make over $20 million combined. We might have a million or two room, if anything, which is not enough to do anything at all -- we'd be better off with the exceptions you get for being over the cap. ------------------ RealGM Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Juan, If the Drew exception expires, Bullard is renounced and Shandon opts out... the Rockets are $13 million under the cap. Amazingly different. Not that we'd have anyone to spend it on anyway, I just thought I'd point that out. BTW - If Cato were traded to... i.e. the Bulls as a BYC for a 1st year rook... i.e. Fizer, the Rockets happen to shave another $4 million off of the total... for closer to $17 million. Just a thought. ------------------ We're going to stay together until something happens, if something happens. - Sidney Lowe on Shareef's career in Vancouver.
rblh, Unfortunately, your trade won't work, because you have Dallas taking back just over $2 million more than they are giving out. They are currently over the salary cap, so it won't work. All the other teams would work. You just need to tweak it a bit. ------------------
OK guys....question. Who holds the option on Bullard's contract in 2001-2002, the Rockets or Bull? I'm asking because according to Davo's page, he is set to make $4.2 mil. All I know is if I'm Bullard, there is no way in hell I pass up $4.2 mil to go do broadcasting for the Comets!! ------------------ "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - Gandhi
RP-I haven't checked davo's page, but I think you're reading his unrenounced value (he counts that much against the cap till renounced/resigned/signed elsewhere) On the scenario of Mo, Shandon, and Moochie leaving if we make a trade for Reef/Reeves. Mo The most likely to leave. The number of teams that will be enough under to sign him to a long term big money detail will be few, but he will likely be one of the top 5 wanted free agents. We CAN sign him to a mid-level exception, which is no longer 2.25 million-it'll be close to 4.5 million. He seems really happy year, and he could reach Big Bird here before any other team. We'd have a crazy team with him, and we'd have a fair chance of signing him. Moochie If Moochie leaves, it will be over minutes, not money. (Unless Les won't pay him) Why? This is his 2nd year. Early Bird rights. We can get him a multi-year deal up to around 4.5 million. How many backup PGs around (the ones that were supposed to be great but busted don't count) make 4.5 million? He won't be going anywhere Shandon After Tariq Abdul-Wahad so far, teams will be cautious with this breed. Not many are under the cap, and Shandon's a year away from big bird. Or, Through Early Bird, we can give Shandon a contract slightly greater than Cuttino's contract. (Around 6 years, 33 mill) Remember, Shareef can bump up to 4 for spells, (maybe even longer), and Mo has proven he can play 5 for drives. Francis-Mobley-Shandon-Reef-Taylor is a scary proposition in a tight game in the 4th quarter. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated. [This message has been edited by NIKEstrad (edited January 08, 2001).]
Thanos, Since I am not paying for the Rockets' salary, I am willing to go over the cap. How about this version of the trade: Vancouver trades: Othella Harrington $2,250,000 to Houston Vancouver trades: Bryant Reeves $10,110,000 to Houston Vancouver trades: Shareef Abdur-Rahim $10,125,000 to Houston (BYC Value $7,593,750) TOTAL: $22,485,000 Chicago trades: Jake Voskuhl $316,969 to Vancouver Chicago trades Corey Benjamin $744,480 to Houston Chicago trades Fred Hoiberg $880,000 to Houston Chicago trades: Khalid El-Amin $316,969 to Vancouver Chicago trades Marcus Fizer $2,562,000 to Vancouver TOTAL: $4,820,418 Houston trades: Kenny Thomas $885,120 to chicago Houston trades: Walt Williams $4,250,000 to chicago Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $5,333,333 to chicago (BYC Value $2,666,667) Houston trades: Hakeem Olajuwon $16,700,000 to Vancouver Houston trade their Orlando-1st round pick and Chicago's conditional pick(s) to Vancouver. TOTAL: $27,168,453 Basically we are trading Fizer, Orlando-1st round pick, Chicago's conditional pick(s) plus taking Reeves' salary for SAR & Harrington. In addition, we trade our Milwaukee-1st round pick, Detroit-1st round pick plus our own 1st round pick for a 1st round pick in the 3-6 range. We use that lottery pick for a stud Center or Power Forward. Players under contract for 2001-2002 after the trade ===================================== Jason Collier $1,280,067 Othella Harrington $2,475,000 Shareef Abdur-Rahim $11,250,000 Bryant Reeves $11,560,000 Shandon Anderson $2,400,000 Steve Francis $3,473,520 Cuttino Mobley $4,412,880 Carlos Rogers $2,200,000 Moochie Norris ~$1,000,000 Dan Langhi ~$500,000 1st round pick(s) ~$3,500,000 Matt Bullard ~$4,200,000 (do not renounce his rights so he will count against our cap to ensure that we will retain our mid-level exception) TOTAL : ~$48,251,467 Free agents for 2001-2002 =================== Maurice Taylor (We will lose him to free agent if we can not resign him with the mid-level exception) Would you go for this trade under the scenario that we can replace Taylor with a high lottery pick? ------------------
Nikestrad, GREAT post. I second that. It's worth the price of admission. It could be done. It really isn't THAT far-fetched as some people seem to think. Rblh - Not enough in the deal for chicago. Why would they want KT when they have Brand and why Walt? Besides, if Hakeem is traded, we can't get rid of Cato until we draft a serviceable C. Reeves/Collier at C is insanity. ------------------ "I have posted so much that what I say must be true"
Can you guys IMAGINE how funny this must be to Clutch? Here he is, knowing a lot of the deal that is apparently to go down, and we're here like a bunch of lunatics saying anything that comes to mind!!! GOD, I LOVE being a Rockets fan. Wouldn't trade it for anything. ------------------ Jazzkiller
Who wants Shareef?...EVERYBODY! O.K., well Big Country is attached...(sounds of crickets chirping among omnious quiet.) This is the problems the grizzlies are having and it's evident by remarks made from the front office stating something like "insults or bad offers" for SAR. It may be that the Rockets are one of the truly few teams to be making serious noise since we need rebounding help and defense and that is what big boy can do. I think it's just a matter of ironing important details out before we can brace ourselves for another good one to come along. and no "role" player please - we don't need that. My prognosis of probability (behind the scenes number crunching- took me 2.43 hours): Vancouver 90% Chicago 8% Other teams 2% ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
