Would someone please explain the obsession with Gilbert Arenas?

I don't think he scores as well as Francis. I don't think he rebounds as well as Francis. He doesn't pass much better than Francis. And he's an even bigger ballhog with worse defense.

    What's the fricking point?

I actually think gilbert is more talented than steve

hes taller, hes just as quick, hes probably a bit of a better shooter and defender, as good a rebounder and a better passer. And definitely better on the fastbreak. The bad thing is that he turns the ball over at an alarming rate (higher than steve).

He was one of my favorite players the last year and a half in the NBA, and I followedhim from his Arizona days cause Im a Southern Californian like he is

With that said; however, i just told my co-worker how he is now one of my least favorite players. I think if anyone would be a cancer to the team its gilbert. I think hes amazingly talented..as you can see from the games hes played when he's been healthy this season; but ...

HE has a HUUUUUUUUGE chip on his shoulder cause he was picked in teh second round.

There was that incident mentioned above from last year, and his squabble with Kwame, He just has this cocky attitude that ive grown to hate, because it seems like a big old chip..

    P.S.

for those of you who seem to think he completely sucks...Thats one thing I hate about this board. While im a huge houston rockets fans, im also a big basketball fan in general, and while its understandable that im getting Homer views since Im on the rockets sight, I just wanted to "drop some knowledge" that not everyone else in the league sucks (yes I have been eyeing the trade steve threads)
Anyhow, with that said I wouldnt trade for arenas cause hes a cancer, but I still think gilbert is a good player who is fun to watch.

in his last 4 games hes averaging 29 pp 7 assists 7 rebounds while shooting at least 45% in all those games and 8-11 from 3 one game and 5-9 from three the next.

His biggest games were against the payton and lakers and then B Diddy and New orleans

    and tonight he had 27, 7 and 6 shooting 45% (9-20)

In this stretch hes also avg a little over 4 turnovers so thats definitely a negative.

he had one bad game recently and that was after his squabble with Kwame....he "curbed" his "ballhoggedness" by not shooting much and basically force feeding Kwame to make Kwame prove his argument.

I read in USA Today that Arenas got in trouble this season when he skipped a team shootaround because he wanted to finish his game of Pool in the team Club House. I ask you, if Arenas would skip out on his team for a game of pool, what else is he likely to do?

You guys are probably still talking about Areanas of Warriors, which I have no idea. What I am seeing now is a better passer, better defender, better shooter and much more smarter player.

You dont want to start Steve's trade after he score 25 points and we won. More people in this board would disagree with you, let's wait for after the season.............

Man, last off season this chump was the most overrated player since people used to praise Cwebb.
A good player, but not worth the contract.

I don't want another scoring guard for Francis. I would want Kwame Brown more than Areanas. Brown has gotten better every year so far. He has brought his FG% up from .387 to .446 to .492. He is rebounding and scoring better too. He might breakout playing with Yao.

    Horriffic idea.

Arenas shoots 39%, with 5 assists to 4 TO's (worse than Steve) and can't grab rebounds as well as Steve. Aside from this, I believe he's smaller, and bickers with teammates all the time.

In short, he's a poorman's Steve Francis. This man is so poor, he eats cereal with a fork to save milk.

    Shawndme7,

I really don't think everyone means that Gilbert Arenas completely sucks. Believe it or not, most of us on this board aren't blind homers who know nothing about basketball.

Still, Gilbert sucks relative to Steve Francis is what most of us are saying. He is the man on that team, and does a decent job. But when Steve was the man on the Rox, he did more than Arenas, and showed us a lot more than Gilbert has. At least Steve got real damn close to the playoffs (best record without making playoffs). Add in the fact that Gilbert is a cancer, turns it over more than SF, and you have a "NO WAY IN HELL DO I DO THIS TRADE" reaction.

I used to say the same about Bibby,Sar and Brand , but everyone here thought Francis was god. Now with his suckiness, people realize that he's a knee injury away from being a unathletic , low bb iq pg. I like arenas, plus the fact that he's 21 makes him more attractive, but if I'm giving Francis up, i think he's one of the players that can bring McGrady in return.

Exactly....trading Francis for Gilbert is like trading a Jaguar for an Accord.

The Jag may have its problems but overall its a better vehicle, and its value is much higher.

You want to make that trade, you'd better throw in Kwame.

Steve Francis for Arenas plus Kwame Brown? I think Wizzards may do it. This wizzards team is not commited to winning for the moment, selling more tickets is their top prority.

I didn't leave anything open , the point was that it doesn't take a once in a blue moon huge deal to distract Arenas. He probably would have skipped for the whole Super Bowl Weekend.

The only way francis brings in mcgrady is if ming or some serious first round pick action is involved and even then you might not get him. Francis is talented, but he is also damaged goods. Everyone in the league knows that he is terrible at running the point and selfish at that, not to mention his hugh contract. Teams would not give fair market value for him in my opinion and teams would have to unload some ugly contracts on the rockets for them to even think about taking on francis. The only trades I could see happening for him is going to a team that needs some star power, a team like chicago maybe or atlanta. If I were the rockets I would seriously look at Kirk Hinrich and filler like an Antonio Davis or jerome williams, whatever it takes to get hinrich.
