i think dickau is a doable trade for sura's contract. portland save a million next season for a guy who'se collecting dnp's on their roster.

i don't think it'd be a fair trade unless they also take on jliii's contract and throw in a 2nd round pick.

the only problem with Dickau is that you're playing 4 on 5 on D. I think he's as useful on D as Mark Jackson was when he played here.

EDIT: we could solve that problem by playing zone as I advocated in another thread

Give me Ridnour or Mike James......

Sura for Atkins or Tyronn Lue if that doesn't happen......

Stay away from guys like Bibby, Tinsley or Kidd.....

I would LOVE to see us make a play for Delonte West but there's no way Boston gives him up without us parting with our #1 pick and/or a guy like Head.

I would add Keith Mcleod to that list. If I was the Pacers, I would dangle him out there since he is behind Tinsley and old man Armstrong who is playing very well(would love to have him). Anyways Mcleod played some big minutes for the Jazz a couple of years ago and is a traditional PG which means he has no shot but he can dribble and pass well and provide some energy on offense and defense. Kind of worrisome that he lost a backup role to Darrel Armstrong though but don't underestimate Armstrong.

Phoenix is said to possibly be open to trading Marcus Banks in order to relieve some cap. Sura's contract might entice them.

might not leave enough room to use the full mle. just having a glance at things now, rockets really need to offload juwan's contract, otherwise they're forced to stand pat for another season.

The point you were making is that we may not want to spend it because we'll hit the luxury tax threshold, right? I assume so but I'm just clarifying.

I was looking ahead at next season. Rocks would be around $61M after signing the drafted rookie. Rockets can re-sign Deke and Hayes without dipping into the MLE but there probably won't be enough salary space to use it.

I just don't think the Rockets want to be stuck with the same team, ie no option to change, with a new GM and possibly coach coming in.

    "A list"

-Ridnour would be excellent but very hard to make it work (very unlikely, take 1st rounder +). I also see this move more likely in the offseason if things don't pan out for Rafer in the playoffs this year.

-Duhon would be great, but even harder to get because the Bulls are in the thick of things in the East.

-Del West would be much easier. Why would Boston trade away one of their few good young players. Take our 1st next year + more.

-A Johnson would be fine but the Mavs would never give him to us.

-Atkins or M. James would work, have to include some form of pick compensation unless they sought Novak or VSpan. Very possible, Atkins more likely given the bad blood.

-Boykins. A lot easier to obtain than Mo Williams or Bell because the former is an older vet. Would be a very different change of pace to back-up Alston.

    "B List"

-Travis Diener, I think a significant enough upgrade over JL3 to pursue.

-D Stoudamire. Memphis might allow us to have him for his contract for sooner expiring filler. Most experienced of the lot for the playoffs--certainly bonus.

-Lue. Does put up decent numbers, but also failed badly here already.

-Hart. I am not sure he can play, but if he was cheap, cheap, cheap I might give him a shot. Sac can't possible want much.

    "No list"

Banks, Watson, Knight, Arroyo, Calderon. Sorry, a guy who shoots the 3 significantly less capable than Alston better have a ton of other major offensive strengths (like Dre Miller). None of them are at that caliber, though I guess Arroyo or Calderon for really, really cheap could get a look.

Jasikevicius, Jaric. Sorry, many of the problems with Head playing back-up PG would show up with these two, and they don't bring what Head does in other ways.

Dickau, is he anything more than an older, less quick, JL3 who knows the Rockets system even less than JL3?

Dickau is a very heady player who would have no problems picking up a system. he is older and less quick, but he is a smart PG who will look to pass before shooting the ball. He is extremely underrated and actually put up very good numbers in the one year he had regular PT in NO. He is a significant upgrade over JL3 in terms of PG ability.

Im not too sure about that. He was playing last night for them, since Sergio Rodriguez is hurt.

i'd say he's just being shopped hard with the deadline banging at the door. sergio hasn't played all february and they also have juan dixon behind jack. sergio's coming back for them next game.

That was 04-05. Since then he has played in like 1/3rd of his NBA games and averaging about 3 PPG. Unless there are big time extenuating circumstances (like being finally healthy and showing the same game from like 2 years ago) it just doesn't look like he has much to offer. 3 mil next year isn't light either.

Any option has to offer something different and better than splitting up PG duties among Rafer and Head.

Not totally closed to the Dickau idea, but I'd need lots of convinceing.

What we really needed was for the Knicks to release Steve Franics. I know there are Francis haters out there, but I really think he could've been a huge boost. Also, SF now leads the league in FT% . That's a huge jump from the usual 75-80% he had with us.

If Francis is release(bought out) it would have to happen by tonight(2-21). I will be looking out for news.

    Successful Scenario
Due to Houston and New York being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and New York had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

You might say they'd never give up David Lee at this point, but this move would save them a fortune...

No way New York would do that. I on the other hand would do it in a heartbeat.
