Also, I really hope we don't trade Luther away. His fair salary is much higher than his actual salary, and I think his Roland Rating suffers from him being forced to start against other veteran 2-guards in his rookie season. I know management has put him on the trade line, but I think it would be a mistake unless we got something really good in return. He's clearly a passionate, hard-working player that can step it up. With some experience, he'll be a great role-player.
So what should we get for Howard. A sign and trade for Jeferries or Bonzi or Wilcox. Or maybe a straight deal for Elton Brand... forget about the cap. Offer a realistic trade proposal that another team might actually consider. As I was considering Mihm for Howard I was trying to think from the Lakers side if they would even consider the trade. ANd I was able to come up with the idea they might considering they don't see Mihm in their future but still they would have to really see that Howard still could contribute on some level. And that I am not sure they believe. So please tell me what else we have a realistic shot at getting. The Rockets already have some deals on the table. What could they be. Tell me please but don't forget to try and think fromthe other team's standpoint as to why they would want the deal. Because otherwise it's just wishful thinking.
A pair of sunglasses and probably nothing else, Howard' contract is the major problem, I hope Luther say in a Rockets uniform this year, he got playing time because of effort, while other couldn't get off the bench. There is a good possibility he will advance further (he' not finished yet). Look hard at getting Wright, and another guard plus JLIII. Call it an off season, and get to work!
All I am saying is that if we want quality depth, then we need to look elsewhere. I don't think that getting rid of JHo this year and getting these guys in return, just to get rid of them next year to have cap space, is a good idea. I do not have much of an option to give, but I live out here and have seen these guys play, and have heard the radio guys bash both of them all the time. I just want to put it out there that I strongly disagree with these two in return for JHo and Head (especially Head).
Aaron McKie was washed up about 3 or 4 years ago. He probably has about as much left in the tank as Derek Anderson, maybe less.
That's it exactly. Even if we wanted to make the deal (I think Portland offered up some of their guards to whatever team relieved them of Miles' contract), we'd likely need a 3rd team that would want D Miles, who is no PF. Unless we actually move Tracy to the 2.
I'm sorry, but did you ever see Juwan play when he was younger? He was A LOT better than now. Not even close. He's never been a superstar or anything but if you can't see that he's way past his prime, then that's your opinion. Pat Riley offered him that $105MM contract way back when. I guess that means Riley thought Juwan was pretty good at the time. Just look at how he was later in the year in 04 vs. how he was all of last year. Last season his jumper was very inconsistent except for 4-5 games. So, yes he IS very washed up and everyone in the NBA knows it (which is why he's almost untradeable). If Juwan was an UFA this summer, the best he would probably do now is 2yrs/$6MM.
there are 2 problems when trying to trade Jho. 1. he's old. 2. he's on a bad contract. niether condition attracts a potential buyer. the only thing we will get in return is someone either older or on a worse contract. if we are willing to take on a worse contract then we can probably see a talent upgrade. Jho for tinsley works well for both teams. Jho and head for maglior works well for both teams, though it leaves us very thin in the backcourt. we would still have the TE and MLE to find reserve guards.
Miles is fine as a PF against 70% of the league's power forwards. Look at the matchups. Miles vs. Marion. What better defensive PF could you throw on Marion besides an ultra athletic quick fast super long 6'9" player? Miles is the IDEAL defensive answer for Marion....and others for that matter....PROVIDED HE BOUGHT INTO VAN GUNDY. And Miles has every bit of the mid-range jumper that Juwan has and then some. If you add Lorenzo to bang against the interior PFs like Duncan, then I think Juwan is more then expendable. I'm sorry but Juwan is expendable even if you don't add a Lorenzo Wright. Besides with McGrady, Battier, and Miles running at the 2,3,4 spots, you've got enough length that you can mix and match unbelievably well. Miles can guard 2s, 3s, and 4s, and Battier can do the same. Miles is probably actually the best defender of all of them if he has his head on straight. He's good enough defensively to give McGrady fits, that's for sure. So, with them 3 on the floor with Yao, they could mix it up defensively every trip down the floor if they wanted to. Would Dallas have an answer??? Dirk, Stack, and Howard???? Sorry, but TMac, Battier, and Darius Miles are more than they want. That is Dallas' best 2,3,4 offensive set. Terry?? Banks?? Terry starts lighting it up, bring in Banks. Dallas want to go small with Terry and Devin Harris? We can counter with Banks and Head or Rafer or we can forget matching up with them and just kill them offensively with our size and length and let one of our super athletes (Snyder or Miles) chase around one of the 2 smalls. I guarantee you Dallas does not want to see us get loaded up like that. Phoenix?? How is Phoenix going to match up with Yao, McGrady, Battier, and Miles???? They would be forced to play our matchups instead of us playing theirs. The more I think about it, the more it becomes clear that we have to move Juwan. It's just as plain as the nose on your face. I don't think we can get much besides Miles. I don't know who else we could get for Juwan that would have the athleticism and length that would benefit us the most against teams like Dallas and Phoenix.
I did see him play and he was offer 105 mil. He never really impressed me that much though.. people started calling the deal a mistake contract pretty soon after it was signed. He never did rebound well... topped out around 8 rpg while playing 40 mpg in his youth. Never could block shots, either. Doesn't get to the line a lot for a big (5.6 FT attempst a game when he was scoring 22 ppg in his 2nd ssesaon) His stats looked better only because he got the ball in the post more on offense and also passed the ball more... probably was more atheletic, but that never really translated to much more efficency on the court. Also, I'm not sure about his jumper % flucutated from month to month in 04/05, but he shot 42.3% on his Js that year, he shot 43.0% on his Js this season. He shot 41.5% on his Js with Orlando in 03-04 and 40.7% ub Denver...Really hasn't "lost his touch" on the J over the last 4 years. Besides getting less minutes and less touches in the post, Juwan really doesn't seem to have changed a whole lot at all.
Let's be real and quit with the abdsurdities. He is not a shooting guard offensively. He is a 3/4 offensively. But defensively he can guard 2, 3, and 4. Now, go to the next argument on Miles.....which is usually the first argument.
I've considered this scenario a lot and I wonder if Milwaukee would bite. Magloire could be moved to a third team that needs a center worse than we do; I don't know how he'd fare at the 4 in today's run-and-gun NBA. From that 3rd team (Wizards?) we could get players we need. But as I say, I don't know if Milwaukee would have any interest in Juwan, except in taking Luther to add some kind of depth.
I hope our decision makers won't see your post. They might actually think it's a good idea in order to get rid of Juwan's contract. I am not that excited about a 'Howard and Yao for Mihm and Mckie'.
I don't think anyone doubts Miles' talent. Problem is he has no heart, and has reportedly admitted to only playing for the money. He sees basketball as a job and doesn't care much about winning or losing. I don't care if he's the second coming of LeBron -- no coach in his right mind would want a cancer like that on his team.
