put horford in the deal and we can talk :p

would rather keep tmac since both would expire next year. we waited all year long for mac's comeback and now we trade him away? no , it would be rather interesting to see what he'll do and we're not in contention this year so what's the point of getting Joe?

i guess everybody seems to forget that yao missed the playoffs last year and part of them this year, but thats okay right. mcgrady misses his first playoff series and people are getting on him for that.

    JJ is a stud.

Dont get me wrong, I love his game.

Will be targeting him in the 2nd round of Fantasy.

However, I think he's going to get overpaid by a team and I dont want bad contracts.

Are you kidding me??? Mcgrady is WAY better than joe johnson will ever hope to be, and that is mcgrady that is like 75 percent..do you think that every team mcgrady has ever played in the playoffs didnt plan their defense to stop him??....Mcgrady's stats always go up in the playoffs, his number are better tha lebron james in the playoffs, look it up...You guys are crazy if you think johnson is better than tmac anyday of the week..its like comparing AK 47 to Dirk, and i think dirk is overrated as well..no way in hell i do this deal at all..Remember, Jordan won three of his championships after he was thirty, So did Hakeem, So did David Robinson and so did Shaq and Kobe for that matter, so its not like mcgrady is is old or anything, lets give him a chance to get really healthy..GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You seem to forget tha mcgrady almost won the starting allstar job last year and said he would give it up if he was named starter..TMAC IS BETTER THAN JOE JOHNSON NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT....so leave the argument alone...because you lose every time..

I wish we could get him for this season that would be awesome but anytime in the future is also acceptable. If we could get him for tmac that would be great but not likely to happen.

"incredible?" he averaged 20 points, 3 boards, and 4 assists on 40.9% shooting. you call that incredible? and yet tracy averages 27, 8, 7 and most on here call in inefficient despite shooting 42.5%. whoa, reality check. THAT'S INCREDIBLE?

the reason they took the celts to 7 games was b/c others stepped up.
josh had 15.7ppg, horford had 12.6 and 10.4.

more importantly, ray allen and paul pierce SUCKED the ENTIRE series. ray literally averaged single digits and paul pierce had 2 single digits game in that series.

    yo ucall THAT incredible?

joe johnson is a very good player. but he's peaked. like i said, i WOULD TRADE MCGRADY FOR HIM, but don't make it sound like he's better than a tracy who played on 2 injuries. he's NOT. the only reason you trade for joe is b/c he's very durable (more durable than tracy).

i admit, he did have a good series the year he left phoenix. why? b/c he wasn't the go-to guy. he was a 3rd/4th option.

the only season joe was better than tmac was last season. tmac of 07-08 was an all-nba player, and was better than joe. no questions asked.

and i might put my money on tracy being a better player than joe again THIS YEAR (if people are the betting type).

obviously, i still choose tracy to play better than joe in the playoffs than the past 2 years.

tracy was all-nba in the 2 years he was healthy. joe has never made one in his entire career. i figure that's fairly important, don't you think?

unless you consider all-nba status irrelevant. then i guess tmac isn't better at all.

Not that I like piggy-backing on another guy's good points....

...but I've always paid more attention to who the LEAGUE rates as one of the top players in the league (production-wise) moreso than any other rating system.

Generally, All-NBA teams are not biased. Marketing and PR people and fan clubs don't get to determine who appears on any All-NBA team (first, second or third team).

Selection to an ALL-NBA team is strictly done by the national media, who admittedly don't get to see every player they vote for regularly, but are for the most part impartial in their selection criteria.

Again, sometimes numbers don't tell you enough of what you may need to know about what a player means to his team, and consequently, what that team tends to do against the rest of the league. If a player's numbers can tell you any one thing with any degree of certainty, it's whether or not a guy can score if given enough attempts. Or grab his share of rebounds. Or hand out x-amount of assists.

Production factors into the ALL-NBA equation, to me, tmac_1.

But probably more importantly, IMPACT means the most. To both a players's own team, and against the rest of the league.

Tracy McGrady, in spite of himself and all of his most vocal critics, has managed somehow (with all his laziness and cowardice and theatrics), amongst those whose livelihood it is to rake these types of shysters over some very hot coals in print, internet and effigy, to consistently be put somewhere among the top 15 players in the league.

McGrady has to be some kind of space-alien or something, to accomplish something like that AND find the time to be completely worthless as a human being and pro basketball player. No other person, living or dead, has ever been as two-faced a person and player as has McGrady, tmac_1.

Depending on who you ask, of course.

It's the same type of thing that has people clamoring for Shane Battier's ascendancy to team leadership. Nobody really cares if Battier is a "no stats All-Star" anywhere near as much as they care about what he brings to the table. Toughness. Intelligence. Savvy. Character. Selflessness.

If a player makes your team BETTER, than he's worth keeping around. If he does enough good things to offset his not-so-good things, well, that's the price we all must pay for being human.

Nobody makes ALL-NBA teams by accident, or by luck, or by spirited discussion. The guys that make those teams make the teams they're on BETTER.

And they cause problems for the teams they face. MAJOR problems.

And they do it game-in and game-out.

Short and sweet: Joe Johnson has a bit to go until he can get to that place, in my opinion, tmac_1.

A trade or free-agent swap of Johnson for McGrady would mean that you expect Johnson to be able to do what McGrady has (or hasn't) been able to do—and that's carry a team during those time when Yao Ming can't (for whatever reason). Where just having Joe Johnson on the floor gives your team a chance to win every night.

The Rockets have a lot of custom-tailored parts right now, to me, tmac_1.

But they don't have an engine. At least not right now.

If Yao isn't enough on his own (as most are beginning to believe), than the wing playing with him has to be able to make some things happen for the TEAM. A guy's playmaking ability (read: potential) isn't the same thing as a guy's ability to make plays.

I've seen McGrady make plays for guys that couldn't do that themselves. I've seen Joe Johnson NOT do that as often with arguably better talent, and certainly less difficult nightly competition.

What happens is, a decision will be made about McGrady's future with the Rockets (and it will most likely be to let his contract expire). If Joe Johnson is on Daryl Morey's shopping list, he'll get him out of the bargain bin.

I know that Joe Johnson is a heck of a ball player, tmac_1. And if the feeling is that the Rockets don't need an ALL-NBA player (other than possibly Yao), they'll choose between McGrady or Johnson on the open market....

Dear God. This is a pretty horrific post even by your standards. For starters, I thought I made it pretty clear that my defending of JJ was due to the fact that I follow the Hawks closely and NOT because I care to contribute anything to this silly JJ vs T-Mac debate that you seem to be in the middle of. Given my unique knowledge and soft spot for the Hawks, OF COURSE I am going to respond to senseless/clueless posts (such as your gem at #11) and correct people when necessary. If you care to contribute to an intelligent discussion then let's make sure that we, you know, do indeed have something intelligent to contribute. Since it's you, I'll just assume that you don't know anything about the Hawks other than what the ESPN.com stats section tells you. That's fine.

For those that actually follow the Hawks or are familiar with that Celtics series you would know that the reason Allen (and Pierce too on a number of possession) had such a bad series was because a certain somebody was guarding him. Hmmm....did you ever even consider that? When I say JJ was "incredible" it's because he was! When you consider all that he's asked to do on both ends of the floor combined with his leadership and ability to maintain that level of play in the playoffs....i'm sorry, but you need your heads examined if you don't respect that. What you fail to realize is that there's more to analyzing the game of basketball than saying "omgzz he only avrgeddd 20/4/4, how do u tink thats good?!". I can TELL you didn't watch that series. I can TELL you are in over your head trying to debate this issue. So really, do you have something else to bring to the table here or is regurgitating ESPN.com stats the extent of your posting ability?

You missed my point completely. My point is that you get a younger, healthy guy who put up very good numbers in exchange for an older, very unhealthy guy who is an X factor this season and every season beyond that. History tells us not to bet on 30 year olds who have had multiple surgeries recently.

Several times, I have said that prime Tmac is light years better than prime Joe Johnson but that is a pointless argument. A relevant argument is whether Joe Johnson is going to be the better (and that means healthier) option for a team that will probably not contend for two or three more seasons.

I saw your earlier post. We both agree Joe Johnson is a better fit for what this team plans. I think he is also a better fit for right now. I think we disagree there. Since McGrady isn't going to be traded for Joe Johnson I hope you're correct and I'm wrong.

uh, i got league pass bro. and i don't just watch the damn rockets. i've seen joe johnson mature from the suns to the star he is today in atlanta. like i've said a thousand times, he's a very good player and is deserving of his all-star status.

first of all, i saw EVERY game of that epic series b/t the hawks and celtics. and are you telling me joe shut down BOTH ray and pierce? i hope someone can pull out the tapes right now of that series. joe is a very good defender and that is one of the attributes that most stars today just don't have (he actually likes to play defense and i admire that). but the defensive key of that series v. boston was horford and josh smith. horford was a BEAST in the paint on both ends, defensively and on the boards. and josh smith TOOK it to KG, and got 3 blocks per game on his own. those 2 provide the physicality that the celtics struggled with at times, and made their game perimeter oriented.

but to get your point straight: ray allen and paul pierce pretty much sucked in that series AND THE SERIES AFTER THAT. they sucked in TWO series in that playoff run (and i'm sure i brought that up in one of the earlier posts). yet they clicked when they faced the pistons, one of the premier defensive teams in the league that year. AND I DIDN'T WATCH THAT SERIES. i had to chuckle. and you're telling me joe johnson shut down ray ray?

just to add: ray ray sucked in the 2nd round of this year too (along with paul pierce for some of the games). the past 2 years, those 2 have been "streaky" offensive players in the playoffs. that's why boston has always been in long dragged out series both years.

the celtics SUCKED on the road basically throughout that entire playoff run, until the pistons and for the most part laker series.

and i also watch joe on offense. i don't purely rely on the stats. 20, 4, 4 is NOT incredible once again. joe had like TWO great home games. TWO.

so i suggest you watch that series again. i wish they reshow that on ESPN classic and someone tape it or something.

look i said if we can trade joe for tracy straight up, we do it. no hesitation. but he's not a player that would make this team better than what tracy did in 07-08. if morey does this trade, it's simply for the durability issue b/c morey would not even entertain this trade 2 years ago if the hawks' GM called him up.

but i guess we have to make due of yao's short window. so i would be fine with this trade (b/c yao is still in our plans).

If tmac goes the rockets will have problems filling seats in the toyota center let alone keeping the lights on... forget about it

Lets wait and see for T-mac

Can anyone with photoshop skills make a T-mac pic much like the obama one which reads " hope" that'd be awesome

winning games put people in the toyota center. tmac and yao don't put anybody in there. when tracy first got traded here, we didn't sell out many games in 04-05 until we started rolling in the 2nd half of the season.
