trainers can only do so much. Look at gilber arenas. he hurts his pinky in a scrimmage, it has nothing to do with what the trainers did, it just happenes
Joe Johnson will not put any team over the top, dont care for him. I would rather give Tmac one last chance and let his contract expire.
Arenas' injury was an accident that happened as a result of physical contact. Do you remember McGrady's initial injury with his back? He shot an uncontested jumper and started writhing around in pain afterwards. That's something that might not have happened if he were properly conditioned. You're comparing apples and oranges.
no he hasnt, and it is just like any other player in the nba, they take jumpshots, they cant take it to the whole everytime, it aint no dang videogame, if he makes the shot, yall dont bash him, if he misses it, yall talk about him settling.
First of all, people have been complaining about his shot selection for years. That's a fact. So you can sit there and keep insisting that he doesn't settle for long jumpers. Go ahead. You'll look like an idiot. No one expects him to take it to the basket everytime, but for a supposedly elite wingman, he gets to the rim at a surprisingly low rate. And when he does, he normally tries to avoid contact which forces him to take difficult shots. Also, when he takes bad shots and makes them, I still criticize him for his bad shot selection.
i am not saying he doesnt take jumpshots, i am saying it is not "settling" as you want to claim it. T-mac is one of the best perimeter shooters in the nba, and going to the basket does not always equal into easier shots. I have seen him though be a playmaker and kick it out to an open defender. Sometimes he creates enough while going to the basket to pass it off to a teammate who then passes to another wide open shooter, but none of that is gonna show up on the stat sheet.
Having the ability to get to the basket but choosing to take long jumpers instead is the definition of "settling." No, not even remotely close. Maybe not, but it does equal more fouls committed by the other team. It does equal more open looks for teammates. It does equal more free throws. We've all seen that. We just haven't seen it consistently.
yes t-mac is one of the best mid range jump shooters in the nba. Going to the basket is not always gonna be there. yea you can have all the ability in getting to the basket, but it means nothing if there is like 3 defenders on the help defense. and even so the countless times that ppl have missed wide open jumpshots created by t-mac, or the blown layups(hayes) is fustrating to watch, especially when ppl want to claim t-mac isnt a team player. So the next time he has to hold the ball longer so that he can break the defense down to get to the rim, i dont want to see anybody complaining about him being a "ball stopper"
Don't act as if this was your original contention. If you scroll down a few posts, you'll see that earlier, you were claiming he was one of the best perimeter shooters in the NBA. Next time, when you discover that you're wrong, just say "I misspoke; I originally meant to say..." 3 defenders on the help defense? Sounds like an easy opportunity to get to the foul line. This has nothing to do with McGrady's shot selection. In fact, a lot of the looks that Hayes gets is due to him moving without the ball. If he continually attacks the rim, I don't think people will complain about him being a ball stopper. They'll probably complain about his poor free throw shooting. Let's hope that the depth perception problem has improved.
yes perimeter shooter. i havent changed my argument. i just went more specific. Three defenders on help defense sounds like an easy way to stop somebody from getting to the rim. Mcgrady is not a poor free throw shooter, what one bad year from the line defines 13 years in the league. Nope ppl will juts complain about this whole notion that t-mac is selfish and wants his "touches"
Theres a difference between perimeter and mid-range shots. Actually, this past season is the only time he's ever cracked 80% from the line. He's a poor free throw shooter. Doesn't he? Isn't that what he told the media last year? That he needed more touches?
Dude, nobody has pined over t-mac in 5 years or more. I still don't understand why he is rated so high, when his needs are shot, does he even have a kneecap anymore. Seriously.
McGrady is NOT a good perimeter shooter. His shot selection here for the past years has always been questionable. It is inane to argue otherwise.
Career 43.6% from the field and 33.6% from 3. In contrast, Kobe is a career 45.5% from the field and 34.1% from 3. Is Kobe a good perimeter shooter? I don't know who else you would want in the NBA taking a perimeter shot, whether it be an open shot or a defended shot, than a healthy Kobe Bryant. Take Kobe Bryant and jam up his back for 5 years and what do you think happens to his shooting percentages? Now take Kobe and put him on the floor with a bunch of role players and very few games playing alongside one other single All-Star and what do you think would happen to his shooting percentages? McGrady is a good perimeter shooter............when healthy. He is every bit the shooting threat that Kobe is........when healthy. McGrady's problem is his health...........NOT HIS BASKETBALL SKILL SET!
Uh.... ...actually, we all did get to see what that scenario looked like with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, for the couple of seasons before the Lakers fleeced (oops... TRADED FOR) Pau Gasol out of Memphis, jopatmc..... ...we saw Bryant win a scoring title, get MVP consideration, drag a team of castoffs and nobodies into the playoffs.... ....get a 3-1 series lead and lose the series in seven games (while pitching a nasty tantrum DURING THAT GAME SEVEN), REFUSING to be aggressive offensively because he'd heard whispers and criticisms of his selfishness and inability to involve teammates who wouldn't have even been in the postseason without him.... ....calling out teammates and his organization, literally holding the Lakers hostage demanding a trade, and then refusing at least one because of a no trade clause in his contract, because the situation wasn't what he wanted..... Whew. You know, the more I think about it, I guess I could see why everybody around here would want somebody other than Tracy McGrady polluting the air around here, jopatmc. Nobody's paying attention to anything other than whether or not they personally like Tracy McGrady. Nothing else matters. McGrady's selfish. He's weak-minded. He's brittle. He whines. He cries. He abuses his teammates. He shows up his coaches. He manipulates the guys who writes his checks. He doesn't want to win. They had more than a few L.A. reporters singing the same song about Bryant a couple of seasons ago. A guy who'd already won three straight titles and established himself as one of the best players of his generation. I don't know why anybody bothers trying to improve the rest of a team if one guy means that much to your winning or losing. But I do know bias and contempt when I hear it (or read it, as the case may be). That in an of itself doesn't mean much to me, jopatmc. Part of what makes this a free country. But to masquerade that obvious contempt as "concern" for the team you happen to root for is about as disingenuous and self-serving as McGrady supposedly is. It's not about basketball around here for a lot of people, jopatmc. It's a clay-pigeon shoot. And McGrady makes the best target.....
Not happening. The most we could possibly get from a hobbled ex-superstar is possibly a wannabe All-Star and some salary dumps. We won't see a top 30 guy for sure. I am very confident saying that.
