The problem with Hughes to me, in addition to being injury prone and on what Bill Simmons calls the 2nd worst contract in the league (3 years, 38.5m to go), are he's an awful perimeter shooter and an inefficient scorer. The decline in scoring doesn't bother me so much as it was accompanied by a decline in his FG%. I still don't know what the Cavs were thinking throwing that much at Hughes instead of Redd. I wish there was a way to get Hinrich. He strikes me very similar to an early Sacramento Mike Bibby. His BYC status makes things tough, though.
LOL miller and maggette?? that means the whole bench will be gone, and the rocket's active roster will be those 5 plus novak on the end of the bench
Why do we think that a hired gun is going to adapt immediately to Adelman's system? When T-Mac and Yao are both on the court, there is no room for a 3rd scorer. And when they are not, we have enough fire power off the bench as demonstrated by the last two games. Let's not make any panic move.
A lot of slasher low post attacker and 0 shooting the main problem in this team. SA have shooters, Dallas have shooters, PHX have shooters, LAL have shooters, GSW have shooters, DET Have shooters DoI need to keep going. We need Shooters that can spread the floor for T-Mac, Bonzi, Yao, Scola etc.
the problem with the ROx is all their bench players wanna score and not play a role..........you dont need any more scorers.........someone who can naturally shoot 3, hit the J and drive?? how many people are there in the NBA to begin with that do all 3?
Ive been on the trade machine and gone a little happy on it! So, before we split up Tracy and Yao, among the other trades that I have shown will work dollar wise and seem to be good trades for both or all teams involved, here is my latest block buster that contains a four team 20 player trade! This Trade Succeeded! Go back to adjust your trade or start over. New York Knicks Incoming Players James Posey Salary: $3,206,000 Years Remaining: 1 PTS: 7.3 REB: 4.1 AST: 1.0 PER: 13.19 Alexander Johnson Salary: $770,610 Years Remaining: 2 PTS: 2.2 REB: 1.0 AST: 0.2 PER: 11.00 Jason Williams Salary: $8,937,500 Years Remaining: 1 PTS: 8.7 REB: 2.3 AST: 5.4 PER: 12.00 Kirk Snyder Salary: $2,358,433 Years Remaining: 1 PTS: 4.0 REB: 1.5 AST: 1.0 PER: 15.18 Tony Allen Salary: $1,868,141 Years Remaining: 1 PTS: 4.7 REB: 2.2 AST: 1.4 PER: 9.08 Mike James Salary: $5,826,893 Years Remaining: 2 PTS: 7.6 REB: 1.7 AST: 1.8 PER: 11.21 Outgoing Players: Mardy Collins, Jared Jeffries, Quentin Richardson, Eddy Curry The Knicks do this deal just to free up some money, even though they can afford not to. But they get rid of several multi-year contracts and end up with mostly 1 year contracts and a couple of 2 year contracts. The players they get in return are gonna help them run more to offer a better product to put on the floor. What they have now is not working no matter what, so getting some expiring contracts in along with some players that they can put on the floor to run with the ball also, gives them an opportunity to make some moves in the upcoming years. They are going no where this year no matter what. And long contracts have continued to be their biggest problem, along with coaching and management that are making those decisions. Boston Celtics Incoming Players Rafer Alston Salary: $4,550,000 Years Remaining: 3 PTS: 9.3 REB: 3.2 AST: 5.0 PER: 11.97 Eddy Curry Salary: $8,947,543 Years Remaining: 3 PTS: 13.7 REB: 5.0 AST: 0.6 PER: 15.29 Luther Head Salary: $1,122,000 Years Remaining: 2 PTS: 5.9 REB: 1.6 AST: 1.4 PER: 12.52 Outgoing Players: Kendrick Perkins, James Posey, Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Eddie House Boston will do this deal because while they lose some defense in Posey, although they are also losing their starting center, they are gaining Eddie Curry as their new starting center. They get Rafer to run their offense, whether they decide to start him or not over Rondo is anyone's guess. But off the bench to get it up the court and pass to their 3 stars unselfishly, who else would be better. Then they get Luther that will give them even more fire power off the bench at the one or two from 3 pt range. They become the favorites to win it all actually with this trade. Miami Heat Incoming Players Chuck Hayes Salary: $1,750,000 Years Remaining: 3 PTS: 3.3 REB: 6.3 AST: 1.0 PER: 12.09 Shane Battier Salary: $5,883,600 Years Remaining: 4 PTS: 8.3 REB: 4.6 AST: 1.5 PER: 9.99 Mardy Collins Salary: $967,320 Years Remaining: 2 PTS: 1.5 REB: 1.3 AST: 1.1 PER: -0.16 Jared Jeffries Salary: $5,632,200 Years Remaining: 4 PTS: 2.7 REB: 3.1 AST: 0.7 PER: 6.72 Quentin Richardson Salary: $8,105,500 Years Remaining: 3 PTS: 7.3 REB: 5.9 AST: 1.6 PER: 7.25 Steve Novak Salary: $687,456 Years Remaining: 1 Outgoing Players: Alexander Johnson, Ricky Davis, Jason Williams, Udonis Haslem Miami does it because they need to do something. To me, they get the least out the deal, but they get rid of J. Williams' contract; they were gonna lose Ricky D. anyway, so they get something now for him; they were shopping Udonis anyway....and Johnson is no big deal to lose. In return, they get some strong defenders in Battier and Hayes. They get some 3 point shooting with Battier, Novak and Q. Richardson, who could return to form working with D. Wade and provide them what Ricky Davis doesn't. Im sure they can find some use for Marty Collins and Jared J. as well. Houston Rockets Incoming Players Kendrick Perkins Salary: $4,480,912 Years Remaining: 4 PTS: 6.9 REB: 5.3 AST: 1.0 PER: 12.20 Ricky Davis Salary: $6,819,000 Years Remaining: 1 PTS: 14.9 REB: 4.2 AST: 2.5 PER: 12.46 Brian Scalabrine Salary: $3,000,000 Years Remaining: 3 PTS: 2.1 REB: 1.5 AST: 0.9 PER: 5.07 Eddie House Salary: $1,500,000 Years Remaining: 1 PTS: 8.0 REB: 2.2 AST: 1.7 PER: 15.17 Udonis Haslem Salary: $6,050,000 Years Remaining: 3 PTS: 13.1 REB: 9.4 AST: 1.5 PER: 13.58 Outgoing Players: Chuck Hayes, Shane Battier, Rafer Alston, Steve Novak, Kirk Snyder, Mike James, Luther Head The Rockets do it because we get a proven third scorer in Ricky Davis. Him and Tmac will make it more difficult on opposing teams than Tmac and Battier at that position. Also, we upgrade our four position with Udonis/Scola vs Hayes/Scola. Also, we get the higher percentage shooter in the PG position with House coming off the bench as a spark. We also get a legit back up center for Yao with Perkins who was starting for Boston. Scalabrine is a throw in and we use him if we can. New starting lineup: AB, Tmac, Ricky D, Haslem, Yao Bench: House, Francis, Bonzi, Scola, Perkins A much better team IMHO..and we keep Yao and Tmac together! Get on the phones Morey! Any comments?
Rockets in Dire Straights By: Bill Ingram Last Updated: 12/27/07 8:47 PM ET | 119 times read Adjust font size: The Houston Rockets are a team without an identity. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise to fans of the Houston Rockets that Tracy McGrady is slated to miss a week or more with his latest injury. McGrady has never been the kind of player who would threaten AC Green's ironman record, and this season will be no different from the pattern we've seen throughout McGrady's career. The Houston Rockets will be without him for an undetermined period of time. There are a couple ways of looking at this latest injury. There are those who are quick to point out that McGrady's injuries tend to coincide with times when his teams struggle, and there's certainly an argument to be made that this is the case. There's also a possibility that McGrady's oft-injured nature has something to do with the fact that he came to the NBA right out of high school and has thus put more wear and tear on his body than other players his age. It's true that some players (Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, for example) have had great success despite skipping college, but it takes a special athlete to be able to endure the rigors of professional athletics. It's at least worth mentioning that McGrady could simply be feeling the stress and strain of the profession he's chosen. Whatever the reason, his heart or his body, the Houston Rockets are once again faced with the proposition of playing a stretch of games without their star player. We've seen them without him many times in the past and it's never been pretty. Sure, Yao Ming is still there, but his effectiveness tends to drop off exponentially when McGrady isn't in the lineup with him. Defenders surround Yao and force turnovers, daring other Rockets to step up . . .yet none of them ever do. Is this the fate of the Houston Rockets as they currently stand? Are they doomed to mediocrity while McGrady and Yao are together? Carroll Dawson once bemoaned the challenge of trading one starter for three and then trying to build a lineup around that one player. When the Rockets traded Kelvin Cato, Steve Francis, and Cuttino Mobley for McGrady they literally tore apart the team. McGrady puts up good numbers, but he's not three starters no matter how well he plays. What the Rockets have had to do is use bargain deals and veteran minimums to try and put a strong group around their two stars, and that ragtag group simply hasn't been good enough to compete 50% of the time. What the Rockets really need is a couple of players who can drop the open three with regularity and one more player who is top notch at creating his own shot. Right now they have Shane Battier and Rafer Alston who are decent shooters and can create at times, but neither of them can do it consistently. An argument was recently made that the Rockets would regret the trade of Rudy Gay for Battier for years to come, and that may well be true. Battier is an incredible defender and is a great asset to the team in ways that don't show up in the box score, but right now the Rockets need someone to help them in ways that do. So where does the help come from? Frankly, it's time for this team to start making some decisions about guys like Steve Novak, Carl Landry, and Luther Head. Are you going to use them, or let them go? Do they represent the future of the franchise . . .and is it time to start cultivating that future now? It's hard to admit defeat. It's hard to look at a lineup that features two of the biggest names in the international basketball scene and then see a .500 record in the standings. But that's where the Houston Rockets are, and it will only get worse as McGrady's injuries continue to pile up. The Rockets have a new general manager, a new head coach . . .maybe it's time to make some roster changes, as well.
I would jump at Battier and James for Hughes and someone like Cedric Simmons at this point. Larry's contract only has 2 yrs left on it, that would give us a very nice expiring to move next year if things don't work out here, the expiring contracts are arguably the most valuable commodity in the league today. I also liked Simmons coming out of NC St and would like to see what he could do with some of Deke and Chuck's minutes.
There has been much said about getting Maggette from the Clippers. I do believe he could help us. The only way we might get him is to trade: Battier Francis for Maggette Then we could resign Mike Harris. We would miss what Shane and Steve brings us, but Maggette would bring the scoring we could use. Mike Harris would also help.
I'd jump at that one too, basically I'm not a Battier fan, just don't feel he brings enough to the table to warrant a starting job in the league, he stood out in Memphis because he was a stark contrast to Mike Miller and did the things Mike couldn't/wouldn't and that made both players valuable when the ysplit the SF minutes. Here, I feel Battier much like Chucky has been exposed as a player who doesn't really have the skills to be a starting caliber NBA player expected to carry much of the load in all facets of a NBA game.
I concur. Hughes stock is at an all time low but he brings too much to the table. The one problem with him is that he shot is shaky and I doubt he'd hit as many open 3's as Battier. This would most likely be compensated by another player that slashes to the basket though.
Where's Francis been? I haven't seen him on the bench for several games now... Is he out of the rotation too?
you guys think there's anyway we could pry mike miller away from the griz w/o trading mac, yao, or bonzi? maybe a combination of expiring contracts and youth (mj, franc, luther, landry, novak?) could get it done since they're obviously in rebuild mode and millers contract takes up a substantial chunk of thier cap.... Miller would be great coming off the bench. Hes a great shooter, a good slasher, and a decent defender. He could come off the bench with bonzi so they could do an inside outside bench attack. Or we could then trade battier and put mac at 3 and miller at 2 and still have bonzi as a spark off the bench...
If Jerry West was still running the Grizz, I would say that a straight up Miller for Battier trade could be done. If memory serves me correctly , I believe the Logo had a huge man crush on Battier.
