It's somewhat of a gamble, but Larry Hughes is available. He *could* provide the scoring boost the Rockets need, and he is certainly tired of his time in Cleveland. Another possiblity, which another thread mentioned is a package with the Heat. We'd have to take on J-Will, but I'd be pretty thrilled to get Ricky Davis. I think the Rockets would have to give up James, Snyder and/or Novak.

If Tmac is indeed out for an extended period of time, we should give Hughes or Davis a look.

    Or bring back Cuttino! Jk...sorta.

    Just a thought.

    (Try to) Enjoy the holidays,

    Melancholy Codman

I would love Davis because he is another expiring contract along with Williams. And he could be that 3rd scorer slasher Houston needs.

Rockets need more offense be he doesn't have to be a starter. The need another Jon Barry type move.

James Jones could be the answer. He was salary dump for the Suns who traded him to Portland as a condition for trading their draft pick/the Spanish guy.

Jones has a player opyion for next season and isn't likeley in the Blazers long or short term plans. Trade them Snyder's expiring contract for him.

In this forum Morey and Moneyball are synonymous.

Any chance of getting Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza, Jordon Farmar, Wally Szrzcbiak, Rajan Rondo, Charlie Vilanueva, Andre Miller, and Willie Green without moving Tmac, or Yao?

Jermain o'neil. Could we try to have him in the squad? Max contract player, but another player that can give you 20-10 every night and a shot blocking presence other that yao.

Low post scorer with the ability to shoot up to 15 foot. Playing below of what he is capable, hence a chance to grab him.

A combination of Battier, James, Bonzi and Synder may be enough to get him.

Only problem is are Rox giving up to much for a "3rd" scorer? Rox be giving up the bench, perimeter defense, as well as players that can play at the wing position.

    Not really.

And even if it were the case, that doesn't make it right.

This is true, but one has to live in the real world. If I write the word "gay," it is transformed into "same sex" rather than "blithe and cheerful." If I write Moneyball, it is transformed into Morey. Further, if I write "Rudy Gay," it is synonymous with "Rocket rape."

It's the current usage you must rail against. :(

I don't know many teams that want to trade a scorer unless they are going to get a scorer in return.

I think if we give up Battier, we need to get a good perimeter defender in return who gives you better scoring punch.

Battier + James for Hughes works. Hughes can play 3 positions, he's a good transition player, and he's a good defender. He's also very injury prone (unlike Battier, who's you can count on to play a full season), and he's a poor outside shooter. Oh, and we'll be struck with an even worse contract the next couple years.

Cleveland might go for it, though, so if we're desperate that's an option. We just have to pray he stays healthy, because if not we're screwed.

The Cavs would probably throw a tickertape parade through downtown Cleveland if we were willing to take Hughes' contract off of their hands. Especially if his albatross contract landed them something useful like Battier and James.

He's regressed considerably since that contract year that he played out of his mind for the Wizards. Since then he's steadily declined every year. Not only is he a suspect shooter and defender but he also went to the Corey Maggette school of durability and to my knowledge has never played a full season. He's owed about $26 million over the next two seasons. Stay far, far away......

From what I've seen, he looks to be a good defender still. I think it's worth looking into if we're looking for another perimeter scorer. Durability and contract are big issues with him, so it would be a real gamble. He still brings some versatility and quickness that we've been missing for quite some time, so I think it's worth considering if we continue to sputter between now and the allstar break.

He's quick so he usually doesn't have a problem staying with his man. The problem is he's about as soft as they come and has little upper body strength.

If we're going to take a massive gamble I would prefer a better player. Hughes is clearly damaged goods at this point. Any team that takes the $12-13 million a year gamble might as well set their sights higher on better players before resorting to dealing for a player like Hughes. That's just me though.

You're absolutely right it was CD's trade probably with input from JVG. I have thought player personnel decisions by CD has placed the Rockets where they are today.

Overall I think Morey has done a good job. Noone can change a ten man rotation in one and a half seasons. It normally takes three to four years when starting from two players (Yao and TMac).

Morey performed a miracle by getting Scola. Can he perform another in the same season by finding a scorer on the cheap? Probably not.
