i think he would fit. he's serviceable with the ball, he's got range, he can score and penetrate. without looking at their stats, I think I'd rather have terry than bibby.
Morey need to get Stackhouse for MJ. MJ can be a good PG back up for NJ and he can play 2 too. If only JVG is here, he has special relationship with NJ as he made a lot trade with NJ in the past.
I don't wish to be rude my friend, don't kid yourself. Getting a bag of chips would be hard to get for Mike James. Believe me I hoped that James would have brought 75% of his game as compared to the first time when he was with us.
Well you are not being rude. But who knows, we have had relation with NJ for a while when JVG was here and a few trades materiliased.
Rockets never made any trades with the Nets when JVG was coach http://hoopshype.com/general_managers/carroll_dawson.htm
Kirk Snyder (expiring 2.4 mil) Mike James (2 years @ 5.8 mil per) for Brevin Knight (2 years @ 1.6 mil per) Tim Thomas (3 years @ 5.6 mil per) Tim Thomas is a versatile forward who can stretch the defense with his range, and Brevin Knight may be a horrible shooter but he has better than a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio and defends very well. Imagine him doing for us what Jacque Vaughn does for the Spurs. The Clippers should be interested because it helps them in the wallet, and who knows? Maybe Mike James could even get some minutes and produce there. If not, he's a good sized expiring contract they can dangle before the trade deadline next year. Does it make the Rockets contenders? Doubtful, but I do believe it makes them better equipped to match up with the better, more versatile teams.
I don't see how this could possibly work out well. He's a four. Where do you play him? His perimeter skills are weak. He takes bad shots. He's a poor defender and rebounder. Definitely not the coldest beer in the fridge either.
Any trade that doesnt bring us a back-up for Mcgrady in case he gets hurt, just doesnt make much sense to me. Besides Bonzi, Luther is the only other sg on the roster. His size is an issue! His defense against other SG's is a issue! We just need a SG/ tweener!
um. i disagree? snyder, luther, battier, bonzi, tmac, SF3, MJ all can play the 2 guard if necessary. that would actually be the last thing we need, imho.
Aside from "He's a four" you basically just described both Mike James and Kirk Snyder, but anyway... Tim Thomas is by no means a prototypical PF, but neither is Robert Horry, and he has found ways to come up big in spots. Similarly, he was extremely clutch, and a huge difference maker for the Suns in their 2006 playoff run. He averaged 15.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.4 threes per game on 49% FG and 44% 3PT. As I said initially, he and Knight likely aren't the final pieces to the puzzle, but they're better than James and Snyder which are giving us zero and zero respectively. Speaking of zero, that's how many threes Mike James had in the Dallas series three years ago.
horry isn't a prototypical pf because he is a sf. haha. he was drafted as a sf, and if you recall he played sf most of the time until he was pressed into pf duty by the rox during their title run out of necessity, and somehow it stuck. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Horry
I made the comparison because they are both SF/PF tweeners with similar skill sets that have the exact same height and weight (6'10", 240).
oh, i know man. i was just giving you a hard time. if TT would ever use half his athleticism, he'd be as much of a beast as young horry was.
You make trades for upgrades or to dump salary. The Rockets are trying to do the latter and hope for the former. Tim Thomas is not a smart move. We have Scola, Landry as solid rotations with Chuck for defensive purposes, we have people like Novak who already brings a shooting touch without having the defense. There are only two types of trades that could benefit the Rockets. First and formost, another decent point guard who can actually have a normal shooting percentage whether he starts or backs up Rafer. Brooks is going to be a decent pg in the future, but is not going to be as reliable his rookie year. Secondly, a guard who can consistantly hit shots and make his own shots if needed, which is what we wanted Mike James and Steve Francis for, but hasn't panned out. Your not going to get a Jason Kidd or Mike Bibby for point guard unless your going to dump T-Mac or Yao which is not going to happen. The Rockets are not going to keep three max contracts on their roster which is what you'd have if you could get a trade for one of them and keep Yao and T-Mac. Dumping mid level contracts for someone like Cassel would be better. Andre Miller would be a good pickup, but I don't see it happening, he's not making max dollars, but I think his salary is pretty high. As for a guard, the only person I would make any kind of trade for would be Miller, lights out shooter and pretty good penetrator. He's actually a small forward, but would be good insurance for T-Mac. There again, around the 10 million mark in salary, would be a hard pill for Les to swallow. For pieces, there's only four of five players that I wouldn't want to trade and only one of those would be the untouchable which is Yao obviously. I only trade T-Mac for an overwhelming deal because good or bad, he's an essential piece of this team. Landry and Scola I would hate to part with, but to be honest, we may not be able to keep Landry since he's a free agent after the season and we may not be able to afford him. I also don't want to part with Brooks, but for a point guard or shooting guard, you may have to part with him. Luther, Snyder, Landry, and Brooks would are good trade pieces. Synder is a decent player who has an expiring contract. Luther, Landry, Brooks are young players that teams would want to rebuild with. It basically is going to come down to the win now concept that the Rockets have had for over a decade. Will you sacrifice winning in the future so you can try to win now. It was good during the Hakeem years, but it also hurt us in that we didn't draft or traded draft players that are good players now. Rashard Lewis, Richard Jefferson, Sam Cassel, Robert Horry are all players that we traded or passed on because of that philosophy. You can argue for the Barkley trade because it helped us get back to the western conference finals when Clyde and Hakeem couldn't carry the load by themselves anymore and the window was closing for all of them. I think in this case, we can't expect T-Mac and Yao to carry the load. If we want to win now with them, then you trade away Brooks or Landry because othewise your hoping that T-Mac and Yao can stay healthy and play at a high level for the next three years to win.
Tim Thomas and Brevin Knight ARE upgrades of Mike James and Kirk Snyder, especially in terms of what the Rockets could use most. That's not really up for debate. Upgrades don't always have to be glaring. A lot of people were up in arms when Boki and Jim Jackson were shipped off for David Wesley, but that move ended up being part of a turning point for the Rockets. I apologize, but I didn't finish reading your entire post because I'm at work. I just wanted to make that point.
For 1.6 million, and considering he can orchestrate offense and defend opposing PG's, I wouldn't expect him to.
We don't need him to orchestrate the offense and defend opposing PGs that he can't stop anyways. We need our PG to be able to shoot the basketball!
The NBA champions use Brevin Knight v.101 and seem to do fine. I'm not even advocating the acquisition of Knight as a rotation player. I love Brooks but if Rafer gets injured, especially in the playoffs, I'd really rather not rely on a rookie to run the show 40+ minutes. Knight = cheap insurance.
