we'll have to take on a dead-weight contract or memphis won't do a deal.

It can improve our defense, but I don't think it can address our shooting problems. Will Pietrus be a team player? He will also become a UFA next year.
I'm not completely opposed to the idea though.

With the All-Star weekend gathering of general managers and Feb. 21 trade deadline in sight, the teams fighting for playoff spots might seem more determined to find reinforcements. The Rockets' run would seem to increase the risk of making changes or even tinkering, but also could offer greater potential reward.
"You can't over-weigh the current play when you're evaluating what to do with the trade deadline," Rockets GM Daryl Morey said. "You have to take a very dispassionate assessment of how close you are and make the right move that's appropriate for the team. ... We've never felt like we were out of it, so we were always looking for moves to upgrade the team this year. That hasn't changed. ... But we also feel like our future looks bright. If there is a player to be added, we definitely will. There's nothing imminent."

You can not expect Bonzi to stay here at backup of Tmac. He wants to be a starter with a decent contract. Next year, eithei Tmac or Bonzi will go.

i bet if you went on plasticfans or whatever the LA equivalent of clutchfans is and proposed getting Gasol for some used tires, they would have laughed as well, but guess what happened? Gasol for some used tires.

same thing in miami. they got freaking Shawn Marion, an ironman, dynamo, stat stuffing, floor running, productive SF for shaq the foul and injury machine, who everyone was starting to think would get bought out because he was becoming an albatross. are you kidding me?

crazy things happen in this league. now, since mem already moved gasol i dont really see them doing anything else of the senseless variety so you could be right that it wouldnt work. just saying that stranger things have happened, just in the last month.

"NBA . . . where preposterous trades happen (for other teams =/)"

From the Sac Bee in reference to a package of Artest and Kenny Thomas:

As for other possibilities, a dark, dark, darkhorse is Houston. I say that only on intrigue alone - Artest with former Kings coach Rick Adelman again, not to mention Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming and a pairing with Bonzi Wells that worked so well during the 2006 playoff run?!

The Rockets are on the playoff bubble, although they've won 11 of their last 12 games. To my knowledge, the two teams have not spoken. As for what the Kings would want, I can tell you that they are very high on Rockets rookie point guard Aaron Brooks out of Oregon. How high? There was some internal talk in June about shocking the NBA world and drafting Brooks at the No. 10 spot. He was taken 26th overall by the Rockets.
One trade that I'd have to think would make Geoff Petrie do back flips: Artest for Brooks, the expiring contract of Steve Francis ($2.4 million) and rookie forward Luis Scola ($2.9 million and signed through 2010).

Its pretty clear the writer is speculating but you'd have to at least think about it:

    Rafer-James
    T-Mac-Bonzi-Head
    Artest-Bonzi-Novak
    Landry-Thomas-Hayes
    Yao-Hayes-Mutombo

    Naw, our bench would suck.

if west isnt getting playing time behind ridnour or watson on a BAD TEAM then he sucks. JUST SAY NO TO GREMLINS

WIth JKidd Going to Mavs despite them giving up alot of their depth I still think Houston needs to try to get Miller from Memphis!

    Houston Trades
    Mike James
    Kirk Snyder
Steve Francis (opts out and resigns with houston in offseason)
    Luther Head
    1-2 Draft Picks

    Memphis TRades
    Mike Miller
    Brian Cardinal

We get the 3rd consistent scorer that can hit 3s. Lose some of our depth.
We get a larger contract in Cardinal which Memphis lieks because Cardinal is owed more than james in the next 2 years.

We have to make a move and we practically give Memphis nothing that is major in our rotation at the moment.

I don't see Memphis would want to take James without getting another young talent in return. But if Memphis bite on this, I would do it in a heart beat. We only lose one rotational player in Head, but he's shooting will be replaced by Miller.

Just mindboggling... Kidd gets traded, Stoudamire gets picked up on the cheap, all kind of pointguard activity and rumors happenin.... and here we sit with Alston.... great.

Since the mavs need another center(rocket trade).

do you think they would take something like Deke, Snyder and a 1st round pick for Jason terry?I know they been trying to move him and maybe we could get steal.I have no idea how the salaries match up.....even if it dosn't work how could we get jason terry?

terry wouldn't fit in houston. We dont need another undersized shooting - "point" guard.

not only that but no way does dallas do that deal.
