Glen Davis makes $6 million a year. That's not much by NBA standards and something the Rockets could definitely work with. Just ship two from among Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris, Greg Smith, Donatas Montiejunas, Terrence Jones, Royce White. 2012-2013 season averages: Patrick Patterson 6'9" 240 lbs. 11.9 ppg. 4.8 rpg. 1.3 apg. 0.4 spg. 0.7 bpg. Marcus Morris 6'8" 230 lbs. 8.8 ppg. 4.0 rpg. 1.0 apg. 0/5 spg. 0.3 bpg. Glen Davis 6'9" 285 lbs. 16 ppg. 7.9 rpg. 1.8 apg. 1.0 spg. 0.7 bpg. Rebounds per 40 minutes (pace adjusted): Glen Davis 9.6 Patrick Patterson 6.9 Marcus Morris 6.8
Also, the idea that Daryl Morey is going to just waste all of this 2012-13 cap space by "standing pat" is absurd. He will absolutely try to do something, even if it only seems like a minor move. He should be able to parlay that excess cap space into something useful, somehow. He's quite clever. For what it's worth, here are the teams that may or should want to dump a salary onto Houston (along with something useful, such as a draft pick or two) at the trade deadline, due to a bloated payroll and a desire to dodge (or at least reduce) this year's and/or next year's luxury tax: Lakers Brooklyn Miami New York Boston Chicago Memphis Golden State Denver Also keep in mind that Houston can use its cap space to act as a "third wheel," wherein they would also extract something useful (again, probably a draft pick, or maybe a first- or second-year guy with "upside"). Realistically, the only teams above that figure to be actively trying to reduce 2012-13 and/or 2013-14 payroll over the next few weeks (i.e., prior to the February trade deadline) are Boston, Chicago, and Memphis, in my opinion. Which is, of course, why we're hearing so much trade chatter involving Boston and Memphis; not sure why we're not hearing more trade chatter involving the Bulls, but it's extremely difficult for me to believe that they aren't exploring their options right now.
Maybe, but I don't see why some want to trade Parsons for Deng. It makes no sense. It erases all of the Rockets cap space and it doesn't bring us any closer to a championship. If we can get one of the top free agents this off-season for something like 4 years, 33 million that would be great. It gives us another asset to add to the collection, makes other players more expendable, and brings us one step closer to getting the right star next to Harden. The great thing about having a young team with a ton of assets is it gives us a nice window to trade for a top pick to have a chance at drafting a star.
Agreed I don’t think Morey will trade Parsons. Parsons has 2 and a half year cheap contract. That provides the Rockets a lot of cap space every year. Parsons contract ends with Lin and Asik last year contract and this year the rockets can go over the cap space limits (because the penalties will be very terrible). So Parsons is a keeper for sure. He can be move, only if a superstar is available. I see only small trades coming, to use our cap space to get some picks. Players to be traded: -Douglas: no brain, the Knicks are paying his contract and is an expiring, so gold for small markets. - Patterson: He has 1 more year rookie contract, but I don’t see Morey giving him a big contract. And let me a shot just for fun: Lin + Asik For Cousins + Brooks + Salmons
This team has too many role players, and young players need playing time to develop. I think Morey will go for an all-star caliber player if it's available, otherwise stay put. Harden is the only Rockets untouchable, everyone else is part of any potential trading package.
Parson's will not be traded for anyone significant (allstar caliber) with out trading Lin or Omer as well. His salary is so small it does not match the salary of anyone significant by itself. Dude's salary doesn't break a million for 2 more years. He is on a great contract for the Rockets. Would love to get a stud PF but I think that comes in the Off Season.
Rockets are about 8 million under the cap which means they do not haved to match saleries. If the Rockets wanted to trade Parsons for an all-star caliber player it's possible with out including Lin or Omer. Of course it will not happen unless its a major upgrade IMO.
This is not true. The Knicks are not technically paying for his contract. The Knicks gave Houston cash (annual limit is 3M cash recieved and 3M cash traded away by a team), and Houston is paying for TD's contract. If Houston traded Douglas to another team, that other team will need to pay for Douglas. The Knicks aren't paying for his contract.
Parsons is a glue guy with upside. He can do a lot of things that can contribute to the game. Hope he stays.
don't know why pepole keep saying Asik is untouchable he's a rebounding machine and good at defense, with a decent contract. but far from "untouchable", and he's actually not a good fit for this team. i mean, he's such a liability that he can't even stay in the game to rebound, that's why we see a lot of Patterson playing center in our "small ball" in the 4th Q. and he sucks at the line, i really don't want to see the heck a Asik one day in our playoffs run. unless we can get an all-star at the deadline, i don't see DM give up any of our cap space for the summer. that means we will NOT trade any of our expiring contracts: Douglas, Aldrich, Delfino (Team option on Tonny & Delfino's last year). unfortuately, there's no allstar that fits our team who will be available this trade deadline. trades that i can see DM looking for: 1.) some of our young PFs for a good pick 2.) if a contending team willing to trade us a late 1st or early 2nd pick for Delfino we'll do it. 3.) like i said, Asik doesn't fit this team really well. i think DM would like one of the big men he coveted a couple seasons ago: Nene and Gasol to replace Asik. Gasol's contract make him hard to move so i think Nene is the target. it might not happen next month though. i think a Asik+Patterson+NY's 2nd picks for Nene in the summer makes sense for both teams. we'll likely use our caproom to sign either Millsap or JSmoove in the summer. Nene, G. Smith, DMo Millsap (or JSmoove), Jones, White Parsons, Morris Harden, Anderson or some Vet. we can get for the vet. min. Lin, Douglas (we can keep him if we sign Millsap not JSmoove) Nene and Millsap might not be the "Super Stars" you like, but they're perfectly fit and can make this team a contender.
Deng plays shut down D on the opposing teams best perimeter player. You never see Parsons do this because he can't. He is best suited long term as a PF where he can stretch the D and use his first step against slower PF.
The issue is not what Glen Davis makes, but that he's not that good and there are better options out there. Besides being a somewhat more competent defensive rebounder than Morris and Patterson, there really isn't a whole lot of reasons to spend the extra money on Davis. The guy takes, and misses, too many long 2s and is thus a very inefficient offensive player (ORtg of 97, TS% of .488). And this is not just because he's on a bad team this season, he puts out this kind of numbers pretty much his whole career. This team can have $15-17M in cap space in the upcoming summer-- plenty of money to make a real upgrade at either PF or any other position via free agency or trade. Why make a Band-Aid move now and lose even a part of that cap flexibility?
I don't think trading 2pat is a good idea. he will need to put 2 more screws on his knee this summer, so we aren't going to get much in return. Also, he has been an important role model for the young.
