Morey doesn't want to trade him even though McHale keeps on benching him. Morey wouldn't offer Martin in the Bogut trade proposal.

Deron Williams, Batum, Eric Gordon, Brooks Lopez, OJ Mayo, Asik, Ray Allen, Garnett, whoever man. There are quite a few FA and RFA next summer. If you try to go after an RFA you have to over pay to get them to take their current team out of the picture.

It'll still take 5 years to build through the draft. Why don't people wait that long before flying off the handle every single damn time?

Lol "a" bad season?. Count on multiple bad seasons before we even get to where we are today. You're talking about a long rebuilding project. Consering our team isn't even that bad, you would have to hope our talented players get injured to shut them down, or you ship everyone out for "draft picks" that may or may not pan out.

Either way, you're looking at 5 seasons of Charlotte Bobcats basketball, if we tank.

if we resign him, i'm all for it. if we are gonna let him walk at the end of the season, all i'm saying is that it would have been nice to get a draft pick for him.

I can't speak to the motivations of everyone, but a number of people, myself included, have been advocating tanking for years now, so I don't consider it 'flying off the handle' to continue to hold this position.

The reason we don't want to wait that long is that we can point to examples of teams that have become contenders by getting really bad first (OKC, partially Boston, partially San Antonio) and teams that have almost gotten there, only to be derailed by bad luck (Portland via injuries to Roy and Oden) or stupid management (Cleveland and Orlando each making it to the championship game despite failing to put even a modicum of talent around the game's two best players)

At the same time, we can't see any examples of teams that have done so by incremental improvement (hence Morey's statement that what we're trying has never been done before), and we think that because we're Houston and not a flashy destination city, it's very unlikely to succeed. We feel that those five years would be more productively spent following a roadmap that recent history has shown can make us a contender rather than trying something for which we don't have any relevant examples of success.

You're thinking the drafting road map leads to contenders because you're only looking at the success stories not the overall picture. Its like seeing 3 people win the lottery over a decade and suddenly thinking its a viable way to win riches. If you compare the success rates of teams who tanked and became contender and teams who tanked and didn't become a contender then you'll see its not a reliable way to win a ring. 14 teams get a lottery pick each year and the only new contenders on the scene via draft over the last 5 years are OKC and the Clips. so that's 2 teams versus 14 teams annually who didn't become contenders because of their draft pick.

Its not that hard to see what DM's doing will work eventually, he's managed to clear capspace while still getting good talent like Lee, Parsons, lowry and dragic. If the Gasol deal hadn't been Sterned I think we would have been a top 3 seed in the West right now, while still looking forward to having a top 6 pick c/o NYC and D-Mo coming over.

The "wizard" really worked some "magic" this trade deadline didn't he. Of course, as usual, the Rockets were interested in everybody.

Do not blame Morey, he did his best. Blame on DHoward for wanting to be like, wanting to play in the best market and wanting to do what he wants. In life, you have to choose because not all paths are open.

According to a person with knowledge of the negotiations, the Rockets were in intense talks with Orlando officials until 11 a.m. Thursday, three hours before the trade deadline, about a deal to bring in Magic center Dwight Howard, the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. The Rockets would have made the deal, the person said, even if Howard had not made a commitment to remain in Houston after the season.

Well in this case you have to blame Howard. The fact that he couldn't make up his mind distracted every other team from their trades. Everyone had to wait on the Howard situation before moving onto another trade.

Not saying Howard is a bad guy or anything. I am sure it was hard for him to decide what he wanted to do. That is not something you can just do in 5 minutes, you have to think about it and sleep on it.

I was really wanting kaman...I think we could've gave up a 2nd and expirings and got him...not saying I don't like camby at all but I am sure with his age he isn't going to be able to play all games when we got 4 games in 5 nights or whatever is left in the crazy schedule...I do think we upgraded for playoff push but kaman would've been better fit plus he can score points

    Then I kinda blame Morey.

I mentioned this in another thread and someone jumped on me, but DH12 was a crackhead's delusion. I'm sure Morey was working other deals but going after Howard would take almost all your effort. Then you're left scrambling for scraps when the whole thing dissolves: "Oh, look; it was a mirage after all."

Then again, I'm not so disappointed. Morey will have trade targets and capspace and etc. In the end, we're no worse, and maybe even a little better for the long haul.

still waiting to find out when we can hold the GM accountable for the state of the franchise. after 5 years, i'd still like to know when it's ok to do that.

The rockets have yet to have a losing season in the 5 years he's been here.

He has had to rebuild quickly after putting an entire team around T-mac and Yao and having them both go down, and then Stern putting his foot down on his completed Pau Gasol deal.

He's had misses but he's been overwhelmingly better than I expect most anyone else would be in his role.

He asked if we traded for back ups. Camby and Fisher are back ups. The answer is a yes, how you got "no" out of that boggles the mind.
