Trade CP3 and rebuild or embrace the "win now" strategy?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Aruba77, Dec 10, 2018.

?

Trade Chris Paul and his enormous contract while we can?

  1. yes, move him sooner than later; rebuild around Harden and Clint

Cp3 contract might end up being more regretful than Ryan Anderson's. Especially considering what we gave up. I still dont like that trade. Last year a success made me more comfortable with the trade but this year has me back to I rather of had the younger pieces.

Right. What does that have to do with the fact Heat would never take a such a bad deal for them?

Add 2 picks to get the deal done.

I think we're in a situation where we'd have to pay dearly to convince someone to take that contract off our hands.

So we lose CP3 and at least 2 first-round picks, and we'd get back expiring contracts and (hopefully) a young guy with as-yet-untapped potential. Like Marqueese Chriss, because nobody's going to give us a young guy who's already fulfilling his promise.

Let's say we somehow keep our 2019 first-rounder. With Harden, we won't finish low enough to get a decent shot at a good draft pick, so we'd likely be in our comfortable ol' 10-14 spot. Unless we somehow screw things up and make the playoffs.

Also, and this is critical: We brought Melo in and dumped him after a dozen or so games. We brought CP3 in and dump him after 1 1/4 seasons. I'm not sure we'd be able to get the attention of any elite FAs with a recent track record like that.

Trading CP3 pretty much guarantees us mediocrity for the next 5 years, maybe more. By then Morey and MDA will both be gone and it's a total crapshoot whether we bounce back quickly or go back to drifting around for another decade or two.

No thanks. I'll take my chances. I'd rather have a shot at making something happen than a guarantee that nothing will.

You might be able to do something with toronto.

    Lowry plus Anunoby maybe.

Not sure it gets you back to where you were in any way, but Lowry expires next year.

So ultimately the Paul deal cost the team Trez, Lou, Bev some picks .. then Trevor, Luc and Ryan .. now we don't have cap integrity and are stuck with an over the hill PG. Miss anything? Yikes.

CP3 absolutely should be traded ASAP if Houston wants any future in the next 5 years. Its not entirely his fault.

Unfortunately with the rule changes this year, it has become No League for Old Men. Its going to start forcing out older players who can not keep up. And one trick ponies who need those extra 10 seconds from a offensive rebound because they spend all their energy trying to acrobat a foul. I have stated a while back the rule changes were the death of this team.

I think the League is transitioning more towards Runners than Stronger, Heavy Weight Players
The Freedom of Movement is a no touch defense made for Golden State Warriors.
Adam Silver, Referee Association really Loves to Screw the Rockets.

    I prefer plan C.

Punt this season. Aggregate contracts and move players so we are set up for the 2019 season as best as possible. Get a top ten pick. Go through free agency. Try again in 2019.

You think anyone is dumb enough to take that contract off our hands?

Hey if Ryan Anderson can be moved without any 1st Rd Picks, No Doubt he can traded to a Contender

The Lakers is a Perfect fit for him, buddies with LeBron James, better roster and Lived in Los Angeles for many years.
A Contender for 3 years, both LeBron and Chris can win a Championship, go buy Steroids together and both inject themselves Freely, smoke mar1juana Freely. It's Perfect.
