Pacers say 'yes' quickly to that offer. What just may go down, IMO, is a Harrington - Cat deal. Pollard is doing poorly, and being well paid for it! Cato's stock is up, and his contract is starting to reach its conclusion.
Forget the Heat. The Heat plays in the Eastern Conference. Did anyone who likes playing Cato at PF see the 2 Grizzlies, Mavs, and Kings games? Those are 3 teams in the West who are direct competitors of the Rockets who also will be in the playoffs. Playing Cato any relevant minutes against those teams which are mainly jumpshooting teams is just asking for an asskicking.
Never thought I would say this but Cato is a luxury these days. He is a young shot blocking hard nose defender 7 ft. center that can play the PF effectively enough and we want to ship him out? Sorry, I like having two shot blockers on the floor at the same time. True most PF are quicker than he his but I think he is stronger and bigger so they would have to adjust to him as well.
First off I could care less how much inside information you have regarding the NBA. I am glad that you specialize in getting information regarding the NBA. I work with underwriting securities and Mergers and Acquisitions of companies. I'm sure I have sensitive information too, but I don't acknowledge it to the public. I'm also used to these posts; you think I give a damn about a posting from some nobody poster on some board I visit for a hobby. Get real buddy.
Looks like Denver wants to add size. Would Denver give up someone we would want? http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~90~1917192,00.html
I cannot edit but how does this sound. Camby has 1 less year on his contract and he is an ex-Knick. We add the rights to Kyle Hill and can pick up the rights to one of Yao's country mates. Houston trades: Kyle Hill ( ppg, rpg, apg in minutes) C Kelvin Cato (6.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 27.9 minutes) Houston receives: C Marcus Camby (8.0 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.6 minutes) C Xue Yuyang (8.0 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: +1.7 ppg, +1.8 rpg, and +0.4 apg. Denver trades: C Marcus Camby (8.0 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.6 minutes) C Xue Yuyang (8.0 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.6 minutes) Denver receives: Kyle Hill ( ppg, rpg, apg in games) C Kelvin Cato (6.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 43 games) Change in team outlook: -1.7 ppg, -1.8 rpg, and -0.4 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Francis, Cato for T-Mac, R. Strickland or Lue. Hunter would be nice as well since he's just a bigger, stronger version of Cato. I dunno if the trade exception could be used in this trade but if it would be necessary to make the deal, I'd go for it.
Never heard of Xue YuYang. I will not trade Cato for Camby. We are already soft enough with Yao at center. Replacing Cato with Camby will make our frontline even softer.
Here is the info on Xue. He is 7'0". Season G GS FGM FGA PCT FTM FTA PCT REB AST STL BL PTS AVG 2002-03 26 162 308 .526 181 251 .721 218 26 41 29 568 21.8 Three-point field goals: 21-for-84 (.250). An early entry candidate for the 2003 NBA Draft. Career Highlights: Played for the Hong Kong Flying Dragons for the 2002-03 season. Has recently been elevated to China’s National Team although he has yet to play in competition for the National Team. (2002-03): Was loaned by the Hongli team of Henan province to the Hong Kong Flying Dragons for the season. Averaged 21.8 points (15th in league), 8.4 rebounds (12th in league), 1.58 steals 1.12 blocks per game (8th in league). He led his team in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots. (2001-02): Was named Rookie of the Year in the CBA (China Basketball Association) for the 2001-02 season after he averaged 8.1 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Jilin Northeast Tigers. He played for Jilin after being loaned by the Hongli team of Henan province. Strengths: He has a big build with the capacity to add much more weight as he develops. Scouting reports indicate he is more comfortable shooting facing the basket and has good hands and a good touch. He runs the court very well and has athletic quickness. May be better suited to power forward as he matures. Camby would give us another shot blocker. BUt we do loose size.
Harrington will not be traded until Bender proves himself to be a player. When Bender does that, we can all go ice skating on Hell's new rink.
First off I could care less how much inside information you have regarding the NBA. I am glad that you specialize in getting information regarding the NBA. I work with underwriting securities and Mergers and Acquisitions of companies. I'm sure I have sensitive information too, but I don't acknowledge it to the public. First off, the statement you are referring to is common knowledge. Trade rumors and speculation always heat up around the trade deadline. Second, I could care less what you claim to do with your life. I'm sure we all know you are probably working 50 hours a week at your local, neighborhood Burger King but that is all besides the point. I'm also used to these posts; you think I give a damn about a posting from some nobody poster on some board I visit for a hobby. Sorry, I guess I don't have umm, "street credit" here yet. Posting on a damn message board is not my life. And I got news for you BUDDY, to me you are a "some nobody poster" as well so anything you post means nothing to me. Get real buddy. Yeah, i'll do that. In the meantime, quit picking fights with people with your lame arguments that either: a) Do not make sense b) Are not supported c) All of the above I hope I haven't OPPOSED your weaknesses here. I'm done with this, what a waste of time. Oh yeah, and for as bad of an idea this is, it is sure generating some responses...most of which agree with what i'm saying.
I think JVG and CD know better than anybody that this team gets killed in matchup situations. This generally translates to getting reamed at the forward spots. And I write that despite JVG's assertions that he doesn't see much difference in the 2/3 spots. Many times during the season he has been quoted as saying how small we are at the 1-2-3 spots. But as far as making that change, it makes sense to trade Cato and whomever, as long as we get a decent backup center in return. Still, are we actively seeking a change now, knowing (as we should) that if we stand pat we could get further buried in the West when Denver and Phoenix use their off-season cap space to acquire even more talent? And there are things we don't know such as, Does JVG have to finish out the season with these players before major changes can be made? (subtext: Steve Francis and the Rockets would be better apart)
Let me start by saying, trading Cato is not the answer. Cato is a Fantastic backup centre and i dont think that we could get anyone as good as him in a trade. Cato isnt a great PF. This is where the problem is, we don't need to trade Cato, we need to address the PF position. Mo T is good, but he is not great. He is one dimensional, he never passes and he can only shoot, he isnt a great rebounder and thats what we need. I'd consider trading Cato to beef up an offer for another position, but not with the sole purpose of replacing him as a backup centre.
I'd move Cato and Nachbar for Tinsley and Harrington, if they'd let me. Harrington is the tweener (not a put down) we need to d-up against bigger swing men. I like our chances against the athletic teams (Denver, Memphis, Dallas, Minn...well all of them) with Harrington over Cato. We give up size, but we gain versatility. Harrington can play three or four, putting JJAX and SF on the floor as a rotation with a big 2. I want Harrington to be a Rocket. Now is the time and we have the need to bring in some long athletecism. Cato is long, but not "athletic" in the sense of lateral quickness, explosiveness. Harrington brings this to the table and I would have loved to see him square off with Odom (too bad we can't get Odom) the other night. He's going to be a quality player and could develop into our third option, for those that do not believe the Cat is a consistent enough third. That's my Valentine's wish though, some length at the 3 with enough a$$ to cover the four on spot duty. I'd entertain the thought of Harrington, Odom (though he gets his done with quickness, not strength), Wallace, etc.
I've already voiced my opinion that trading Cato isn't a good idea. That said ... If you trade Cato, suddenly we don't have a backup center. Trade him for a stud PF if you want, but what are you gonna do when Yao picks up 2 quick fouls in the first quarter? You put MoT in with your "stud PF" and we're undersized. Teams drive to the hoop and we either give up easy baskets or then MoT/"stud" PF go in foul trouble. Then what do you do? Padgett/Spoonman? Trouble.
Yep. The issue is getting a PF. Not trading Cato per say. I'd love to keep him as our backup Center. Because, that's what he is. But we have a big hole offensively in our PF with Cato there. They guy can't even hit a simple 15 footer with any consistancy. Forget about the missed layups and jump hooks. Those are even worse. We need a balanced PF. There's no sacrifice in defense if we keep Cato and have him coming off the bench. How we go about getting that PF is another story (FA, trade, draft picks?).
Sure whatever you say buddy. I'll be sure to slow down next time you are getting off the bus so I don't run you over.
Pittsburg huh? What do you go to U Pitt? That's a nice school if you are aiming for a top school in the 4th quartile.
