When was the last time an NFL team with a "superstar" do everything quarterback won a championship ? Someone earlier in this thread dismissed Bush as a "good piece to a puzzle"... well thats how championship teams are built. Reggie Bush will know his role in an offense, and thats why he will excel in the NFL. If the Texans need one player to do it all for them, a silver bulleT, then they will never win a championship. In basketball maybe you can win with one superstar , but you cant do that in football. Brady Favre Aikman Montana Warner Williams Elway Simms How many of them ran as well as they threw ?
Yeah, after all Bush is a guy who in the two previous games had a total of 622 yards. I'm not saying Vince Young shouldn't be an option, but maybe people need to step back and look at the big picture other than just last night's game. Plus I'm still not convinced than Vince Young is the best leader ever.
To the poster who mentioned that he can't bowl people over, can he at least run up the middle and gain some yards? Or does he HAVE to have an open lane to be effective. Warrick Dunn can hit people when runs up the middle as can Tiki. It's not their best use but they can still be successful while doing it. The problem with Bush last night was that when he got the ball, UT knew he was going to try for the edge. If he has to do that in the NFL he will die. If he can't break some tackles up the middle and has to go to the edge, teams will spread their linebacks and kill him at the edge every time he touches the ball. I'm not saying he is that player because I don't know. I'm asking. Has USC EVER run him up the middle? If so, to what degree of success? Also, has anyone seen him run through tackles?
Look, I am not saying Bush is garbage, he is a great college player, I just have more questions about him in the pros than VY. VY seems to be one of those players that comes along once in a generation and at the most important position on the team. Not to mention he is a HOMETOWN product. Not drafting VY would be the dumbest mistake that the Texans could possibly make. DD
If Vince Young is only going to be as good as Culpepper or McNabb I don't want him. They are both extremley overrated.
I hope you are right about the Texans not being able to screw this up. I tell you what for Charley Casserlys own personal safety I hope he does not screw this up. And yes I went a little over the top when I said 90%, but my point was that to be a good NFL QB you have to be able to find your recievers more than your tight end. At the end of the game it seemed that Vince didn't want to throw to anyone else. I am a fan of his and I want him to succeed but I have my doubts on if he will or not.
Jesus Christ people. Sounds like a lot of you are acting like school children. "I TOLD YOU SO!!!!" That's what it sounds like. And then people saying "oh, well, I never thought Bush was that good anyway." WTF?!?! Granted this is a Texas-biased board, but how many of you really felt Young was a better prospect than Bush before the Rose Bowl??? Oh wait, there'sno fair way to ask that. Young had an ungodly good performance, but Bush still played incredible. You don't give up on Carr when he has NFL experience in him. If Young is drafted, NO PLAYOFFS for the Texans next year or two. Draft Bush: PLAYOFFS! But what do I know, I'm not even a Texans fan.
I almost hope Vince doesn't enter the draft, because I don't think I can handle another 4 months of Bush vs Vince threads. And especially if the Texans decided not to draft Vince, you'd have so many people b****ing in this city it'd be nuts. I can understand people thinking they should take Vince, but saying things like "I may never forgive the Texans if they don't draft Vince" is just a little over the top IMO.
Everyone should go back to the A&M game and see how Vince did. Seriously though, all this hype is great for the Texans. Casserly publicly said today that Carr is staying (due to being "misscoached") and hinted very openly about Bush.
Does it not bother anybody that Texas runs exclusively out of shotgun with Vince Young? Can't do that in the NFL.
This is crazy, is it human nature? How does it go that from this whole time I've been hearing Reggie Bush next Barry Sanders to next Eric Metcalf but better...Too much hype in all of this..just think we're not picking the GMs are! Also Vince had a ton of help with the O-Line, can he play the same with our line with the fast NFL defenses? Too many questions, but just be glad we're not in the 3rd spot
Yep, that TE was money. If it ain't broke... In the poll thread, I went over my reasons for drafting VY. But the arm strength and long-distance accuracy (in order to throw to receivers) were not on display last night so I wonder about this. Since I watch no college FB, I will need some UT followers to reassure me on this point - still, regardless, 2500 yards ain't too shabby.
Step away from the crack pipe for a minute. Vince Young is one the most elusive players in college football history. And because of that he developes problems in coverage. Thus when he does complete a pass its usually to an uncovered reciever. He hasn't had the need for accuracy, and when he has, he doesn't play very well, see the Texas A&M game. He's the next Mike Vick. Strong arm, great runner, average accuracy, poor decision maker. Ask San Diego if they like their "Reggie-like" pick in Tomlinson. If you remember they passed up Vick to get him. Now four or five years later look at them and tell me who you would take. NFL offenses don't run the QB draw 19 times like Texas did last night. If they would Vince wouldn't be playing very long. But since they don't, defense's won't have to key the run like USC had too last night. Setting up an advantage for the UT passing attack, especially to the TE. Don't get me wrong Vince is incredible, but he won't be any better than a guy like Mike Vick. Marketable........yes. Exciting......yes. Average QB................yes.
I would only trade Carr for the #2 or #3 picks and the chance to draft Vince Young. A Carr/Davis package deal is worth that. If the Texans can't do a deal like that...keep Carr and draft Bush. MasterIce
They can't. I mean, they take Bush or they take Young, two guys considered can't miss prospects, revisionist history might say they screwed up if the one they pick turns out to be a bust, but that's it. Well, he did throw at least two imcompletions to Sweed, and I'm pretty sure he completed at least one to a WR on that final drive. If someone wants the Texans to draft him they better be PATIENT, he's a quarterback, most quarterbacks take years to develop no matter how talented they are. Look at Ely Manning this season, sure he's starting on a playoff team, but the team is very talented, and his play was not that good all season long, very inaccurate. If I drafted him I would sit him at least one complete season and I'd make sure I had a great QB coach and a veteran QB in front of him, then the next season I would still expect him to struggle a little bit. Are you guys ready to develop another QB?
Eli was a passer in college, like Payton was and like Lienart is. Passers thrive in the NFL compared to dual-threat guys. Lienart will be a better NFL QB than Young.
Eli completed 53% of his passes, in comparison an inaccurate Mike Vick completed 55%, passers on the norm don't thrive more or less than dual threat guys, they're just more plentiful.
Or there will be a 'Young Bowl' next season and the Texans happen to 'win' it again. Reggie and Vince together in the backfield.
