Reggie Bush was outplayed by White, easily. Who got the ball when they needed big plays? White not Bush. Who wasn't in on 4th and 2 to seal the deal? Bush. Who has yet to prove he can be a workhorse back? Bush.

I'm sorry but Reggie Bush has a ton of risk attached to him. I love to hear this not utilized much argument because it's crap. A heisman trophy winner should not split carries with another RB, and especially should be on the field when the game was on the line. He wasn't. A heisman trophy winner should be utilized like a superstar, Bush isn't. Yet nobody wants to talk about that. Bush is the CFB equivalent of how people overvalue the slam dunk in basketball highlights now. He wows you when he plays, but he has yet to prove he can be the man. Period. It's lacking some substance.

In all fairness, I think Pete Carroll has to shoulder some of the blame as to how Bush was used in the Rose bowl.

let me say this. i wouldn't draft a running back with the #1 pick because he can play slot receiver.

White failed on that 4th and 2. How did he ouplay Bush? Did you see the touchdown run by Bush? No player at any level, anywhere could have scored on that play the way he did. Bush was underutililzed, White was rolling, so they kept using him, he's damn good too, but Bush is the man.

Thank you for making my point for me. LenDale White was the one running the ball effectively down my Horns throats Wednesday night, in all the key situations, yet you use Bush's one highlight and say he was better. Sorry, it doesn't fly.

White failed on that 4th and 2. How did he ouplay Bush?

White failing on that play is not the determining factor as to who played better that night. White had all the important touches/carries Wednesday night, if that wasn't obvious I don't know what to tell you because it was clear as day. He outcarried Bush 20 to 13, and Bush wasn't on the field for that final play. Plus, he was the one trusted in the 2nd half when USC scored on 4 straight possessions. He also had two more TD's than Reggie, and is the one trusted by Carroll in goalline situations. Also, Reggie Bush had three big plays that made up a vast percentage of his total yards. One he screwed up with an ill advised lateral. Another came with 19 seconds left and the Horns trying to play a prevent style defense. The last one was his one highlight for the night. He was held in check otherwise.

Reggie Bush was never going to be the biggest threat out of the backfield against the Horns because it's a bad match-up. Texas has the fastest linebackers Reggie had faced all year - he wasn't going to get the space to operate. But because Texas had smallish linebackers, like Drew Kelson who could run step for step with Bush, and likes to bring up the secondary in run support - White was going to get the biggest workload. Which I remember pointing out a lot before the game.

The problem is - every team in the NFL has a defense that puts Texas' to shame - and Bush won't be going to a team that has a talent advantage like USC did on it's offense - unless he's going to end up on the Colts or the Seahawks, and this I doubt.

10 YARDS A CARRY...is that substance enough for you, probably not, but you know better than any NFL scout.

Oh, please, you could say the same thing about Vince Young. Every player on a top college team has a talent advantage, you just have to see how they are able to adjust in the NFL.

Substance is not just YPC, which is always skewed because he didn't have to do the tough short yardage runs that would have brought his average down. White did. Reggie Bush has yet to prove he can carry the work load of an NFL Running back. Substance is partly being able to carry the ball 20-30 times(between the tackles too) over an extended period of time and playing through the pain that will accompany hard nosed running between the tackles. He has not had to do that at SC. He started one game without White splitting carries this year, and while it was a great performance, he has to take on that work load every week in the pros to come close to justifying his projected draft spot. Reggie Bush has gamebreaking ability no doubt, but in order to be worth the kind of pick he will be taken with, he can't be a 10-15 carry guy in the NFL. And right now it's a very legitmate question as to whether he can carry the offensive workload for a full season, as he hasn't had to do that in college.

All the Saints fans must be very happy men now. With only the 2nd pick they can get either Vince or Reggie, arguably the two best players coming out of college in the last ten years. And their team doesn't have to make the tough decision to decide on which one to pick.

    You know, this is interesting.

They already have Deuce and may not want to go after another RB. They have been assumed to be going after Leinart or Cudder (can't remember the QB's name right now). But, they may REALLY want to move up one spot cause they REALLy want Vince.

Everyone wants the Texans to draft Young, but if the Saints offered this year's #1(#2 overall), plus maybe this year's #2, plus extras, would anyone go for it?

I mean, the Texans could still get Bush and extra picks to improve other areas. Seems like going from a lose-lose situation to a win-win.

Well I must have missed something. I didn't know Vince Young had declared for the draft yet. As for Reggie Bush, the way some of you are talking is like he didn't deserve the Heisman, doesn't deserve the top pick and won't amount to anything in the NFL. Well I have a few questions. Those same defenses that will supossedly eat Reggie up and limit his abilities, will they be conspiciously absent when Young takes the field? And if Bush isn't good enough to be the number one pick, then who the hell is? Frankly I think we should feel lucky that the same year the Texans sucked it up, an exceptionally gifted rb who happened to win the Heisman is within their grasp. And IF Young declares, then the Texans are twice blessed, cause they'll have two gifted athletes to choose from.

Also, for all those wanting to draft Young, are you willing to wait another 3-4 years for the team to rebuild, with no guarantee that we'll be any better then than we are now?

Biggest offensive play of the season you put your top 11 on the field ~ Bush was standing on the sideline.

    1) I always thought Vince deserved the Heisman, well before Wednesday night. Vince was a combination of Bush and Leinart's numbers/abilities and he was leading the race before ESPN took over after Fresno.

    2) Bush will be a good pro, and both he and Vince will have to make adjustments to succeed at a high level. However, I felt all along after watching this season that Reggie had more to prove(for one he has to still prove he can be a work horse runner), and now he definitely does. After Vince proved he can pass all season, I knew all I needed to know about his ability to be an NFL quarterback. Not to mention the intangibles he possesses.

    3) Drafting Vince Young does not mean it will take 3-4 years to rebuild. If you make smart personnel decisions(Casserly doesn't have my trust) it can be much quicker to contention. Furthermore, I can argue that drafting Bush could produce the same result especially when you consider the team would have to figure out ways to utilize him and Davis playing together.

    4) Vince Young to me is a no brainer. Leadership-check. Comeback ability-check. Passer-check. Runner-check. Hard worker-check. Then the two that seal the deal: Putting butts in the seats: bigger check than anyone ever could. Hometown hero: check.

He may only be worth a 2nd rounder (I kinda doubt that, more like a middle half to low number first rounder), but when you consider salaries, the Saints have Brooks who is goingto chew up $8 million of their cap space. Why not offer to take back Brooks in exchange for Carr and picks to get that #2 pick of the Saints? That way they get a quality QB and the dead cap space they are gonna have with Brooks contract, plus an extra first rounder next year and maybe a 2nd or whatever.

Bush is like Jordan (spectacular player), Vince is like Olajuwon (hometown guy, plays a more vital position).... who would you pick?

Also, I WOULD remain patient with the team if they chose Vince... and frankly, still being in "rebuiilding" mode may not be such a bad idea, since there's a good chance they wouldn't be winning even with Bush next year (and all the expectations that would come with him).

Except in Vince Young's biggest games, he stepped up. Against Ohio State and USC - the two most athletic defenses he faced - he torched em.

The best defense Reggie faced, he was a non-factor in the game. Therein lies the difference.

I wouldn't say he had trouble, he just didn't have the touchdown jesus game ESPN wanted him to have. But you do have a point in the UT D. Cornerbacks and Safties (except Roy Williams) in the NFL have the necassary speed 2 catch up with Bush. I seriously doubt he's gonna drop 500 yrds on even the crappiest NFL Defense. I think what you saw him do against UT is a good indicater of what he will do in the NFL if used properly. 100yds recieving + 100yds rushing. Which is still unbelievable.
