As for those who question if Reggie Bush can carry the ball 25 times per game...there were only 7 RB in the league this year that averaged over 20 carries a game. Alexander had the most with just over 23 per game. If the guy can carry the ball 15 times a game and can go in the slot for a few plays, he will dominate. Perhaps you all forget that he rushed for 10 YARDS A CARRY this season. I like Vince, but I'm not willing to give up another 2 seasons to wait for him to mature into a pro QB. Texans for Bush 06'
Can you sincerely say that The Longhorns would have won that game with David Carr as their QB? If VY was our QB this past season I am bold enough to say they would have won at least 5 games. Vince is a Winner. That boy is born to win - the game against Ohio at the shoe and USC sold it for me. Lets not kid ourselves - with all due respect to the entire Texas team Vince young almost singlehanded beat the great dynasty in USC. David Carr could not have ever done something like in Madden 2006 or his dreams. A great NFL calibre defensive coach in Carrol could not device a plan to stop Vince. The NFL is a different ball game but I am sure Vince will excel - Vince will become an all time great. He can throw, read, run and inspire his team. He is special and I pray he comes out (sorry UT fans). I sued to be a Reggie Bush or bust guy but all of that has changed now [assuming Vince comes out].
yeah...carroll had what?? 3 weeks...to devise a plan to contain young. couldn't do it. couldn't even come close. the man tore apart the "greatest college football team ever." again..i really like david carr. but these guys aren't in the same class. i wish carr well. off the field..it would be a catastrophe to not take young. i think the sentiment is just now growing....and if he comes out, they need to take him.
You sir, are an enlightened and intelligent individual....the rest of this rabble...well... ESPN Poll on Vince Young vs Matt Leinert DD
Dude, quit selling Lendale White short. He should be a 1st round quality back himself. And his strength is powering it up the middle. It doesn't make Bush a lesser player because they bring in White to run it up the gut just like it doesn't make Tiki Barber a lesser player when they bring in Brandon Jacobs to run goalline. And Lendale White was playing great, so why not milk him? But a lot of people questioned Carrol's decision to not bring in Bush for that last 4th and short. I know I did. At least as a decoy, cmon. Carroll made a lot of bonehead decisions imo. But I do agree that if there is a good trade available, that would better than getting VY OR Reggie.
vince young mania i didnt read a single post about drafting vince young untill the rose bowl. To base drafting a guy 1st overall based one essentially 1 game to me is just dumb, and saying bush didnt impress in that ONE game so you shouldnt take him also is stupid, for example LT of the chargers whos generally considered the best back in the nfl had a game with like 17 carries for 7 yards, would u want him released? (btw im not a bush fan and was rooting for texas)
Not picking on you max per say, just I see this sentiment in the thread: VY tore apart an average d in USC. He had a great game no doubt, but it certainly wasn't against a great d. What makes USC great is their O. And it would be stupid to let the fans run the franchise. The world isn't going to crumble if they don't get the hometown kid. Makes me think of when the philly fans were booing McNabb off the stage because they wanted wunderkid Ricky Williams.
Well, the fans in Houston could not POSSIBLY do a worse job than the Texans managment. They took a questionable David Carr on the first pick (from a mediocre college), and then still failed to provide that pick with a line or a decent offensive game plan, leaving him battered, and probably questioning his own abilities. Trade Carr to Dallas, and lets draft Young. The Texans are 2 to 3 years away from competing anyway....why not do it with a home town guy, who has all the intangibles that Carr lacks? DD
I had this post in another thread on November 29th: Thread where Vince is discussed You just haven't been reading the board enough...VY is going to be a GREAT NFL player...and the mania will only grow. DD
This is all so funny. Just last week people were calling 610 saying they were "season ticket holders" and if they don't draft Reggie they were not going to renew their tickets.
See, I don't get this...Reggie runs out of bounds too much to suite me, he is lightning quick, and will be good, but I just don't think he is a true FEATURE back, hell he wasn't the featured back in USC's offense either. DD
That's because before the Rose Bowl it was a given that he was staying in college for one more year. Now he's more than likely coming out and drafting him is actually possible.
I'll put it plainly. No one mentioned it because everyone assumed he would stay one more year. That is the ONLY reason, now that might not be the case anymore so people are finally thinking about it.
It's not the shotgun, and here's why: The offense Texas runs for Vince Young is a variation of the classic "double-wing" from the late 1940s-early 1950s. It's a throwback offense to college football's glory days, and it is a refreshing change from the T formation, the power eye formation, and the West Coast offense that USC (and most NFL teams) runs. The only difference between Texas' offense and the true double-wing is that Vince takes all of the snaps. In the double-wing, there are two wingbacks rather than a quarterback and running back. Either one could take the snap, and then run with the ball or pass the ball. In Texas' offense, Vince always takes the snap, but 99% of the time there is a running back right next to him on either side, or lined up in a slot about 6-8 feet away from him. That RB either (1) blocks for Vince (2) runs behind him as a lateraling option (3) heads out in the flat for a screen pass or (4) takes a handoff from Vince. If it were a shotgun, they would have Vince back there by himself taking the snap, and either passing or running with no RB blocking for him, which you rarely, if ever, see. It is an offense that plays to Vince's strengths, and it is the kind of offense that any NFL team that drafts him will have to institute. Vince is not a classic pocket passer, and would not succeed as a QB in a West Coast style offense. This offense will work in the NFL. To make it work, you have to have a killer offensive line, which unfortunately is something the Texans need to work on. Personally, I would love to see the Texans draft Vince, change the offense tp something like what Texas runs, give Carr the franchise tag instead of the $8 million option, let Carr run the new offense next year while Vince sits and learns, and then trade him and let Vince take over.
