With all due respect, please educate us which current player could fill in Bonzi's role attacking the ring and creating his own shots? Bonzi may be bad at jumper shooting, but when it comes to attack the ring, he is the money. I guess many of us would agree that this is one of the formulas for success in playoff

Next Season, when Yao or Tracy go down to injuries, and something else happens that is unplanned, it won't matter if we have Mike Miller or Ron Artest. Our window to win is slowly closing.

We are going to have matchup problems for the rest of the season. Bobby Jackson will give you something, but not anything close to what we need.

    Man...EXACTLY...

We don't need a physical guard who gets rebounds and can't shoot. We have 3 or 4 guys more capable of doing the dirty work down low(Scola, Landry, Hayes).

What we need is scoring from the perimeter and a veteran backup PG. James was supposed to be that guy but he just doesn't know how to play in the flow of this offense. Jackson and Adelman are very familiar with eachother and I think it's going to work out.

    Maybe.

But for now for this season short term wise, let's just admit it  this trade sucks and made us weaker.

OMG since when did Bonzi become the master of attacking the rim? '

I have never heard so much praise for a guy who scores 9 ppg in my life...Hell even Juwon averaged more points last year than Bonzi this year.

Bonzi attacking the rim is money? I guess ... when he's not missing layups or bricking free throws. I didn't say Bonzi was redundant on the team. But you can replace him with guys who bring other strengths. The Rockets apparently felt that Alston/Brooks was not enough at PG this year.

no body is saying it's not salary-dumping, money saying. In fact, that's what people complains about, isn't it?

I was going to write a lengthier post but decide not to, since I saw what you post in the other thread. Maybe you just enjoy being smart, being able to point out how this clears way for Head's additional playing time or something.

Not sayin it's not a better deal..... down the road. Bonzi's last year anyway, get out from underneath James' contract... great for the future. But, are we throwin in the towel for this year is the question? Anybody pullin minutes from Rafer is a good thing... but is Bobby Jackson is like puttin a bandaid on a gunshot wound? I hope BJ has enough in the tank for a run this year - we'll see.

    Do you watch the games?

Bonzi was the only guy that usually drove to the basket when he got the ball. He took the occasional ill-advised jumpshot but he was more often trying to attack the basket.

This trade very effectively kills the last small chance we had of even making the playoffs this season.

We are not a team that should be thinking about next season. We are closer to a contender than in rebuilding mode and we just took a step back.

Les sucks. I don't think this could have been Morey's move.

I agree on most of your points. I think Bonzi is a better player than Jackson and that Bonzi has helped us win a few games this year. I especially love his board work. I just think we can continue to win without him and get in the playoffs and I think we will have about as good a chance of winning with or without Bonzi (he's just not quite the difference maker you make him out to be). You point out Bonzi's good points, but he also has some bad traits. He is a poor defender, a terrible free throw shooter and a poor outside shooter.

Your other point of Les being cheap just doesn't hold water. Les signed James with the intent of him being a contributor. Getting rid of James' contract was a basketball decision. Without doing that, we would have absolutely no flexibility for the next couple of years. We had to include Bonzi in order to get rid of James.

Bobby Jackson's career shooting %s are nearly identical to Rafer's.

This season is over. Forget about it.

Les wanted to save money. A few million dollars to him is like a few thousand to you and me. He killed thousands and thousands of fans' hopes to save a few bucks.

    Thanks, Les.

I know that's his strength, but that doesn't mean he's great at it....The rest of his offensive game is not good enough to justify him being slightly above average at going to the rim.

You make it seem like the guy was indispensible to the team when it's been proven that we can win without him contributing....That's been proven.

When we lose it's usually because Alston is sucking and we have no one to bring in off the bench to pick up his play.

Come on, you can't be serious.

So Bonzi was THE difference on this team making the playoffs or not?

    Seriously?

you say we have as much chance of winning with or without Bonzi...but who the hell is our 6th man? Do you consider LUTHER HEAD our 6th? Rookie "All I do is Dunk" Landry? 35 year old Bobby Jackson who CANT SHOOT? Aaron Brooks? Kirk "Pine Rider" Snyder? Steven Novak?

We have no legitimate bench threat. Its fine if we have a 3rd scorer but Bonzi fit that role. A lot of what Wells did wont show up on the stat sheet and we will sorely sorely miss his intangible effect on the game. BJac is a 4 year wonder way passed his prime.

I watch the games and that's what makes me so dumbfounded by people's uproar over this trade.

Bonzi is not that good. We have other players on our bench who can step in and play better given the minutes...Namely Head and Landry...

The trade basically filled our biggest need(backup PG) and it got rid of James and his contract. You guys are overreacting.

Dude, Bobby Jackson is barely better than Mike James alone. He is no better of a shooter and is 5 years older than James. He is a smarter player but his age negates that advantage. Throw in Bonzi Wells and this trade just upgraded the Hornets while hurting the Rockets.

Incredibly lopsided move, the season is over for the Rockets.

Anybody that thinks we are making the playoffs now is out of their mind.

These teams will be playing in late April:

    Spurs
    Mavericks
    Lakers
    Suns
    Jazz
    Hornets
    Nuggets
    Warriors

    This team won't:

    Rockets
