The combined salary might be more but it's shorter.

Maybe they're hoping Jackson's contract will help them land LeBron or Ricky Rubio it expires at the right time

This trade makes no sense to me yet as is... can they throw in a pick?

 

Eh... Jackson is a pretty attacking-type player. I'd put him up there with the grittiest players in the league (not to mention one of the nicest off-court guys in the league). It's true he's not what he used to be, but calling him just a jump-shooter is a little unfair.

 

No one said Jackson couldn't shoot. Its just the idea of Wells leaving frightens me.

Even include Synder's two years contract(2.36+3.31=5.67), Les will end up with paying less 3.44M.

But Rockets can say goodbye to this playoff after this trade.

 

Well we're getting rid of a guard with a longer contract. Lateral move as far as the number of guards we have.

 

Mike James has an albatross contract and hasn't played worth a damn since he got said contract.

Bonzi was likely to be a goner anyway.

Good trade if this goes down, whether it would be a precursor or not.

 

If this trade goes down alone it will be a pure Le$ salary dump.

However, it will slightly improve the roster as well IMO.

Bobby Jackson is an upgrade over what Mike James has been giving us.

And I think Butler is actually a better fit for our offense than Bonzi. Butler has a good catch and shoot midrange game and also plays decent defense.

 

We only have 3 active guards and james is a non factor. I would do this just to dump James. This also makes room for Miller if there is any truth to that.

 

This would be great if Jackson weren't so old. He used to be really good, but so did Rod Strickland. This is a brain dead move it happens. Surely the Rockets can do better than this. Bonzi is or was a major asset for the playoffs. Everybody in the West loads up, and the Rockets drop bullets out of their gun!? Please tell me that "stupid" does not still live in the Toyota Center.

 

Love this trade...Bonzi has been below par, and getting James off the books and out of the locker room is great.

Also, Bobby Jackson (when healthy) is a very good backup PG.

bobby jackson is a decent player, who was a really good role player for adelman in sacto. if anyone knows his game it's obviously jackson. he also has had many playoff runs under his belt, good experience for a team that hasn't made it to the 2nd round in a while. i can see us swinging this trade to clear that room for either Mike Miller or Ron Artest. i gotta tell ya though, if this is all we have up our sleeve I am seriously disappointed!

 

With that in mind, other options could be:

Bobby Jackson + Marcus Vinicius for Bonzi + James
or
Bobby Jackson + Melvin Ely for Bonzi + James

 

Probably the idea behind this trade is to get a decent backup for Rafer. Brooks is gonna be good, but he's just a rookie. Having a Bobby Jackson would help in the playoffs. Another benefit is giving away Mike James contract. And the Rocket would be content on letting Wells go because he'll most likely leave during free agency next summer. Then adding Butler would be a tolerable replacement for Bonzi; he's at least someone who'll make shots and play defense.

As it stands now, Bonzi >>>Butler+Jackson.
But next season, we most likely will be a minus Bonzi though FA and we keep the money-eating Mike James. If we do this trade, Jackson could probably contribute for another 1 or 2 years and Butler is young decent player at the wing position.
