If this goes down and is indeed just a salary dump... then we as fans need to react. You don't just give away a key contributor on a team that has won 9 straight games and is making a playoff push just to save money!!!! It doesn't make any sense.... every serious contender is trading and getting better regardless of their cap situation, but we're making salary dumps??

There's gotta be more to this.

theres no point in trying to burden tmac with shouldering the team when we can distribute more efficiently this year than in the past....

Just like in the past 20 games, tmac has had bad games as well as yao, yet this team still found ways to win..granted against lower echelon teams, but it shows tmac isnt as consistent this past stretch as he has been.

youre right in that tmac needs to play to his capabilities, however if he can have a bad game or two in a series, the supporting cast should be able to pull out one of those games.

tmac didnt have a great game 7 like hes capable of in 2005

I just cannot understand some people's logic: We have to ride on Yao and T-MAC, thus Bonzi is not needed. Did we lose because the lack of contribution from our role players? Did we lose because we did not have players attack the rim? Did we lose because of our poor rebounding? That is what Bonzi can contribute! BJ may be helpful, but much less than Bonzi.
I will quit being a Rockets fan if we made this single trade just for saving several millions. We are wasting our chances of winning. wasting the prime of Yao and T-Mac. We have only a couple of years left with T-Mac and even Yao!

Yes. Bonzi is contributing too. We need players with different skills.

I agree with all of that... but I can't look past the schedule we've had... and the realization is that this team still will have matchup problems against the elite west teams.

Additionally, while Bonzi is part of the supporting cast, he's no more important than Scola, Rafer, and Battier. It just so happens that his contract and the fact that he's not a stiff makes him tradeable.

I'll just have to agree to disagree with all of you... but Bobby Jackson (even at his age, and with his past injuries) would be a good fit in this system. Mike Miller would be good too. The best of all, of course, would be for T-mac to either channel Magic Johnson and be a 6'8 PG who has tremendous court vision, or regain his scoring touch.

Who the hell is Marcus Vinicius?

    Rockets sending Wells to Hornets?
    By Adrian Wojnarowski
    Wednesday, Feb 20, 2008 11:37 pm EST
The New Orleans Hornets have been determined to get Chris Paul a backup that'll ease his burden, fearful that he is logging just too many minutes this season.
For that reason, the Hornets are seriously considering a trade with the Houston Rockets that would bring point guard Mike James and Bonzi Wells to New Orleans for Bobby Jackson, Adam Haluska and Marcus Vinicius, two league sources said Thursday night.
The emergence of rookies Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry have made James and Wells expendable in Houston. Jackson has struggled this season for the Hornets, and Haluska and Vinicius are rookie forwards who haven't cracked the rotation.

    Marcus Vinicius
    Birthdate: 1/4/84
    NBA Position: Small Forward
    Ht: 6-9
    Wt: 220
    Int Team: San Carlos
    Hometown: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Strengths: A natural born offensive player, Marcus can do anything with the ball. Has a perfect shot, shooting from the 3-pt line or the perimeter. With his size, can shoot over anyone and his long arms provide a high release point. Has all the fundaments of the game, can pass, dribble, play post-up, penetrate the boards and his ball-handling is very strong for a men of his size. Runs the floor like a 6-3 guy, with spectacular agility and he excels in the fast break situation. Already has a good leaping ability and his body hasn't fully developed so it can improve.

Weaknesses: Defense; he has a lot to learn defensively. Doesn't seem to enjoy playing defense and will have to improve his intensity and effort here. Also must gain some strength and bulk to contend with NBA players. Sometimes looks lost and has bouts of inconsistency, but his knowledge and feel for the game will improve as he gains experience. He's still learning the game but with international experience (Italian league), in three years Marcus could be a top 3 International prospect.

Full name: Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza

These should not be considered when you look at the trade. The question is Bonzi and BJ, who can be more helpful to the team? Who brings more dimension to the team? Whose style is better for the playoff?

So we're practically getting Bobby Jackson, 2 2nd Round picks who haven't done **** for James and Bonzi. I don't want to see Bonzi go, but I think we're giving up too much if they propose that weak trade.

Why not just switch out Snyder and a pick for Bonzi?

Agreed; and it seems that RA likes to rely on Bonzi when TMac is down.

Bonzi certainly brings something unique to the offense. One more weapon that opponents must prepare for.

Haluska has another year on his contract. At the very least take back stiffs with expiring contracts.

    Vinicius is expiring.

    Both DNP collectors.

Man I will be so pissed. If the team cares more about saving money then pushing for the playoffs (or playoff advancement) then why the hell should I care about supporting them?

(This is if they make this trade just to save some $$$ and don't do anything else)

I would do it just to get rid of MJ's contract (which is nearly untradeable by itself). Bonzi's role can be filled in by Landry. Bobby Jackson still has some game left and could provide some offence off the bench.

If this trade is done then I suspect both the stiffs will be waived and another legit player will be brought in, maybe thru a 2nd trade with Snyder's expiring bait...
