That would be because TMAC is a HUGE question mark right now. Yao was healthy when he helped us reach and advance in the playoffs. Right now, all the reporters know is that there is no Yao, because he is missing the year from his annual injury.....and TMAC is recovering from surgery, and there is no telling how his body will cope.
Based on talent, I'm really surprised that McGrady is not winning this poll by a significant amount. However, I think many of you are judging by the all-around player: interaction with team, talent, character, etc. In that case, Yao would dominate. But for sakes of pure talent, I'd say McGrady. tm
I have to agree, pure talent wise Tmac wins. However I would say 7 out of 10 teams by Yao would probably end up with a better record. Teams around Yao get to touch the ball more. A prime Tmac, people are just watching unless the system forces the ball out of Tmac's hand. However Tmac is capable of winning games by himself, but come during playoffs, Tmac style ball doesn't work to well when Teams tighten up 4th quarter defense. By than, it's too late to get the rest of the team involved.
yao. a 7'6 center with skills is very rare. non-existent. plus he doesn't shoot a large volume and has a good fg%, free throw%, and is the last line of defense, a good one at that.
T-Mac was better in his prime but I am a firm believer that dominant post play is the key to building a championship team. So, yeah, I'd probably take a healthy Yao.
Its a good thing someone started this thread, its been years since we pitted T O Fs against Y O Fs. I was starting to get antsy.
Lets see one year deke and howard replaced yao and the team won 50 games. Another yr deke and 2 rookies replaced Yao and the team won 50 games One yr ron artest and wafer replaced tracy and the team won 50 games. A tracy in his prime have shown he can take a team to the playoffs with basically nothing, do we even know if yao had a prime? Lets say it was 2 yrs ago when he was putting up big numbers, the team was losing. He gets hurt and tracy comes back and the team wins at a 65% clip one year and a 70% clip the next. I really don't want either, but facts are facts.
true however replacing Yao with a center that probably could start for other teams because of his defense was not a big loss, when Tmac can make up the scoring. When Tmac was hurt, who started.......Luther head. Imagine if it wasn't Deke but Brian Cook or Wang Zizi as our backup center back than......
Can the team just have both playing at the same time healthy? Why choose if they can have both? ( playing and not sidelined with injuries )
I disagree. If you give Yao and T-Mac the same pieces (Yao gets a solid SG/SF and T-Mac gets a solid center replacing each other), then the team led by a HEALTHY T-Mac would do better record wise. But that's just my opinion.
Based on Talent Mcgrady wins. Based on work ethic, character, teamwork, and going to the 2nd round....well you know who wins that argument.
