Didn't he retire before last season too?

So what exactly is the difference?

    1. His turnaround jumper that I just couldn't fathom how he got to go
    2. B and D and his all-star selections. These are the accomplishments he will be remembered for but he will live in history (on youtube) for A.
    3. Yes, easily.
    4. Ehh. I don't think so per say since his sustained excellence wasn't over a broad period of time. Idk if he has sone enough for me to say "yeah, sure fire".
    5. Yes, it is the basketball hall of fame so I think he will get in eventually.

For all of Tmac's faults, I don't hate the guy and appreciate what he did for the Rockets. He was a great player and I know that things would have different had he been healthy.

I remember being at those playoff games in 05 and 07. It's easy to look back and criticize him for not getting us out of the first round, but seeing those games live and in person, he played his heart out man. Not once did I think that it was his fault that we lost. I remember being at game 7 in 07 and he made this shot with a couple minutes to go to put us up 5 and I was thinking "we got this!" It was just sad watching him getting chased by their whole team and the Rockets as a team falling apart.

My lasting memory of Tmac on the Rockets was when he was basically playing on one leg and put up 40 in an elimination game on the road in 08. I still think that we could have won that series had Rafer Alston been healthy. Bobby Jackson just wasn't cutting it at the starting PG. We lost every game that Rafer didn't play and won 2 out of the 3 he played. When he went down in the first half we were fooked. Team had no direction for the rest of the game, it was Tmac struggling against the whole team and no one else could handle the ball for ****.

The year after that he wasn't the same player and it was awful to see him hobbling around and missing dunks. We were a better team without him that year because he was just ineffective on the court. He was hurting us with his lack of movement. I am not going to comment on the micro fracture surgery stuff because I do not know for sure whether he notified the Rockets or not. Daryl Morey never to my knowledge came out and said that he didn't notify him.

Nice post. It almost hurts to remember how hard TMac played for us, and how it ended time after time. It has to eat at you to play at such a high level and experience such futility. That in no way excuses his diva attitude and level of self-interest, but people saying he had no heart are just revising history.

He was so good, how quickly he came apart. Him and Yao are two of the NBA's saddest stories. Both of them deserved to play in the WCF at the very least, if not finals.

He has done the right thing to retire. So effortless,so easy at his peak. He didn't live up to his talent. I wish him the best.

Thanks for all you did for the Rockets. Thanks for making this team relevant again - for all the great wins like 13 in 35 or certain wins I remember against the Suns, Jazz, Mavs, lakers and spurs(13 in 35).

Too bad the Rox did NOT put enough depth, talent and shooting around you and Yao to topple teams like Jazz, Lakers or Mavs. Too bad your boy Yao had injury problems as well.

Have a great retirement and manage your money wisely. Your natural basketball talents are well documented and I regret that you never had the depth needed to get deep into the playoffs and do great things in the postseason.

I felt we could sign him. Vet min. Let him finish his career here on a title contending team. He know his mistakes on not trying his best here and quitting and I have no doubt that he would try his hardest for us. A man who had it all but didn't realize how good he had it until its gone. If given. A second chance, do you think he would make the same mistakes? But oh well, thanks for an exciting childhood. You got me playing basketball and made me a fan of Houston when I was just a kid.

I think most misunderstood him. Diva Attitude. It seemed like that because he had an ego, not the biggest even.
Nonetheless a business man, loving Dad and husband, philantropist off the court. Say all you will.
