This is old news. Why keep bringing it up(on tv especially) if it's not a PR stunt

This makes no sense. $75,000 is still $75,000. Could he have given more, maybe. He didn't have to give anything at all, yet he did. What was the man supposed to do, give half of his fortune away?

Are you simple? The whole point of the documentary and foundation is to raise awareness, get Americans to pressure their congressmen, and raise money for aid organizations. You can't do that if you never talk about it.

If you're looking for poverty and despair, you don't have to travel all the way to Africa to find it. Try visiting an Indian reservation. Try visiting the poor parts of Kentucky or skid row in Los Angeles. In any case, I'll know Tracy is serious about Darfur when he pulls a Mutombo and starts cutting bigger checks.

$100 is actually a lot for a person who makes $30k to donate. If you think about, I doubt most people who make $30k donate $100 to third world countries.

Yes, but those people also don't have millions left over to throw away on personal jets and parties after doing so.

McGrady is doing something nice, so good for him. It doesn't make him a hero or anything, but he's at least doing something productive in his life. If more people with his influence got involved in such projects, the world would be a more decent place.

While the USA has a lot of problems at home, the key difference is that nobody in this country is being targeted by their government for mass murder. Poverty and crime are major issues here, but there aren't government-sponsored rape and death squads roaming the countryside.

it's not even the MONEY that is making this act noble, it's the fact that tracy is spreading the AWARENESS of what's going on in darfur.

it's shocking that a few actually think it's a PR stunt or he has to give more money for them to take his act seriously. either these guys... i don't even want to go there.

deke and tracy are 2 of the best philanthropists in all of sports. and rocket fans have to be glad they're associated with this team. it's spreading a good light on the type of organization we run, and the type of players we have.

I guess that you didn't read the post all the way through. The "not really" in the post should have told you that I'm not really surprised and I know how most people think.

Of course people are more concerned with what is going on in their daily lives, however trival that might be, than more pressing issues abroad.

And......no homo @ the panty comment. That was just weird.

Money is not the issue. Charity accompanys Tracy through his career time. I may say doing charity is the second career of Tracy. He helps out those people who are in plight . He went to China, being a charity ambassdor. He donated about 100.000 US dollars, and he gave all the money from auctions of his Rocket jersey, the motorbike, a newspaper and a basketball with his autograph to the patients. He is a kind-hearted guy. I appreciate all he did.

    Man STHU!

What have you given lately? For one he didn't really need to give much but he decided to do so anyways. Second of all why are you acting like he doesn't already do other charities in America?

What? Do you want him to give half his salary to help?

I have been reading a lot of posts on the issue of Tracy McGrady going to Darfur, his donation of $75,000 and how some think he should do more. Look, the reality is that NO ONE knows what is in Tracy McGrady's heart when it comes to what he chose to do in Africa, but him and God. Last time I checked, most people would'nt go to a hostile foreign country, in a dangerous environment JUST for publicity. He could have done nothing, and people would be saying how selfish he is. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. We know how bad last season was for him and quite possibly by his own hand. Cut him some slack and see how he plays when he returns.

I have also read so much cynicism, you would think that the entire Rockets team and this season is already over and horrible. Everyone is so quick to be so negative--about everything. We simply don't know how good, or bad the Rockets will be this year and while we are all entitled to our opinions, but it just gets old after a while reading all of the cynicism. People start sounding like the crotchety old man in the neighborhood who hates everyone and is always screaming "Get off my lawn!" There HAS to be something positive about the upcoming season. Let's look for that. Trust the people who actually work in the Rockets organization and get paid to make basketball decisions. We won't know how good or bad their decisions are until we see results. Come on, Training Camp!!
