I watched those two games as well as this one and most of the games in his career. His defense was just as bad and he looked just as lazy and disinterested. In those games he tried driving but he couldn't get by his man and he took some good shots that just didn't fall.

Mcgrady relies on his athleticism to do EVERYTHING. If he doesn't have it he's borderline useless. He has no arc on his shot so if he doesn't jump high enough it won't go in. He's rather fragile so using strength over quickness on drives is out of the question. He's not strong enough to box out well so he often has to out jump his man to get the board. You get the point? Every game he's played well this season i've seen a noticeable difference in the ease he has at getting around his man. This game he was going against some pretty weak D and he was getting up high for his jumpers (which tells me his knee was feeling alot better).

If Tracy plays well it's rarely because he out-worked anyone. He's just not an effort guy.

try watching the playoffs last yr bro. if you think he didn't have to work for what he got v. utah last yr, you must get new glasses.

again, i think it's just tracy's body language. he has the same body language so it's tough for a person watching it through TV to guage his effort level. but you usually see his effort level if he plays defense.

last night, he tried playing defense (running through screens HARD, getting in defensive stances...). sure his lateral movement right now is so awful that guys blow by him pretty easily at times, but at least he's doing what he can.

offense right now will be up and down depending on how his knee feels. he just has to push through it and stop being so down right now. but his effort has been there the past 2 games.

Ok, i'll agree he works harder in the playoffs but in the regular season...not so much. But, i don't care...if he produces.

I just think how good his knee is feeling on a particular night is much more indicative of how well he plays than his effort (because he's no Chuck Hayes in that department, anyway). Unsurprisingly we see people praising his effort when he puts up 26 (I was waiting to see the word 'heart' come up). Everything that he did in this game he has atleast TRIED to do in others.

I'm sure if he ever fully 'bounces back' we'll see so many people discussing how he inexplicably began playing with so much more effort and speculating on how him and Adleman have 'kissed and made up'.

very true. but right now, he's not physically there. so for him to put up 20+ pts, he had to work for them. it's not easy for him out there right now and you can see it. every road commentator you hear think he's playing on one leg. and he still is.

but yes, when healthier, tracy can do this in his sleep. but people see production = effort, which is not always true.

I will say he was moving 30% better, but he still let Green go right around him like Moon in Toronto. I'd say by Allstar break he should be looking alot better

I make $21 mill and I don't do that every night. In fact I only score over 20 two times this season and I have an incredible 41 FG%

How about me I don't that every night either and I never healthy.

They pay me all that money plus the two year signing and I don't even play.

so are you appreciate or "depreciate" mcgrady? are you saying we'd appreciate the fact that he's at least not these washed up guys?

btw, kidd is a pg who plays evry single night and is still effective every night. so take him out of the picture.

Oh noes he had a good game.

Incoming 10 games of "injuries", "2/10 fgs", "4 points".

    We are doomed.

Without T-Mac, we won by 20+. I really appreciate he is not playing.

When Tracy is not in the game the ball moves around a lot better. The Celtics game and the Knicks game were more enjoyable to watch than the Oklahoma game.

really? b/c i think our DEFENSE won the game. our offense SUCKED for the most part.

42% shooting, 20 assists and we took a whopping 28 shots from 3s only making 9. thank god the knicks were so undisciplined jacking up 3s when they were behind.

i really wonder if some of you guys even WATCH the game or just assume b/c we won by 20, our offense was great. we won WITH DEFENSE.

we shut the knicks down to 35% shooting. our offense was mediocre.

    Have it your way:

When Tracy is not in the game the defense moves around a lot better. The Celtics game and the Knicks game were less offensive to watch than the Oklahoma game due to our lack of a porous defense.

i agree. tracy's D has got to be better. our defense has been better with him NOT playing. but that will be improved with more effort and improved lateral movement.

but the offense moving better tonight? please, people must be watching the games with their eyes closed.
