Just look at our current president. He's miserably incompetent and widely despised by at least half the country. And yet, he's gotten much of his agenda passed through Congress. This has little to do with any special talents or abilities George W. Bush possesses has everything to do with the incredible power and discipline of the conservative movement in this country.

What horsehockey! What conservative agenda have they gotten passed that wasn't directly attributable to 9/11. And then they lost control of congress.

George Bush's way of enacting a conservative agenda is signing statements that circumvent the will of Congress.

    Come Together! Right Now!

Because the one isn't an attempt to perpetuate the myth that he's really Muslim.

I support Obama, and I agree with some of the article. I was just remarking to a friend yesterday how carried away the supporters were at Obama's speech on Tuesday. It weirded me out a little, because when your support reaches a religious fervor, the logic center in your brain turns off. That's not necessary. There are plenty of rational reasons to support him and want him to be president.

If the situation were somewhat reversed, and there was a candidate with a conservative platform who inspired people in the same way, I would be really annoyed. Why should they like him? How is he going to unite everybody when not everybody is going to agree with the policies? I have my answers for that but it's late. Maybe I'll go into it later.

The data doesn't support this. Polls have been run asking democrats if they would support either candidate, and the answer is overwhelmingly yes. (sorry, no link at this moment.) The numbers off the top of my head are:
Clinton voters that would also be happy with Obama: 73%
Obama voters that would also be happy with Clinton: 70%

Samf, I have no reason to surrender to you. ALL of my points around the futures markets being more accurate than polls still stand. However, the Hussein Ubama camp is now reprehensibly manipulating the results, thereby negating their predictive value. I thought the Zogby Kalifornia poll misbehavior was despicable, but now Ubama is stooping to new lows.

The Bankruptcy Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 is a good place to start on the list of things that got through Congress that Bush couldn't seem to sign fast enough.

The futures market has always been a bandwagon -- welcome to reality.

I don't know that many Barack supporters, but none of the ones that I know believe he is a saint or Jesus.

However, believing in his message of hope, and changing from doing politics as they've been done for the last 15 years doesn't mean anyone has some holy vision of Obama. They simply believe he has a vision, charisma, and the leadership to make it work more than other candidates have lately.

It seems like there is a lot of this going on.

It seems like all those who claim that followers are only swayed by his oratory are the ones claiming that it's about false hope that he can't really deliver what he's talking about. But he definitely has the best chance of anyone.

This thread makes the very point of what Obama has been saying from the start about his campaign and how he has run it so far. The cynics can’t attack him on his record or his personal life without sounding like more of the same divisive, negative attacks we have come to expect from elections. So what do they do? They attack the people who have chosen to believe in an idea of coalition and inclusion. We’re naive to believe that a politician can unite people to a common cause.

So in other words,...Don't examine and criticize what Obama is all about. Follow him like sheep and ask no questions....

The writer of the thread topic is actually an Obama supporter, but has brought up criticisms of what he has noticed...It is amazing that any criticism or examination is not allowed by camp sheep...

I guess it only reinforces the writer's point...

    Please

No candidate has been more prodded and probed than Obama here on this BBS.

Go look at how many threads have been started about him compared to the other candidates.
