Forcing people to buy stuff they don't want to...sounds like legalized extortion to me. I didn't hear that? Did you say you DIDN'T want the bundle? Oh, I think you do...
that does suck...but that's the new thing nowadays, especially for new systems coming out...I guess they think if people want it bad enough, then they'd buy it with any amount of crap added on... could he buy it and return the games? just a thought...
The problems is these systems are sold at such a loss that the retailers and Sony/Nintendo don't make any money off of them, so they are going to "bundle" them while they know the demand is high to maximize profits. And there are so many retailers now that sell the games that there is no guarantee the customers will go back to the same store to buy the games, so that puts even more pressure on the retailers to sell the games. Give it a month or two if you just want the system alone.
Dude, I totally had the same thing happen, I went to Best Buy and was the first in line of almost 60 people for the PS3. They had 26 of them and I said I wanted to buy all of them because I wanted to sell them on Ebay. I said that was bullcrap since I was the first in line and the customer is always right, and if they didn't let me buy all of them I would walk away. So they called my bluff and now because of their stupid corporate policies I don't have a PS3.
Minor note, but Nintendo most likely isn't selling the Wii at a loss. They're probably getting a nice profit off of every system sold (or should be). Sony is losing a lot of money on the PS3 though, as was Microsoft with the 360 last year. I don't really like forced bundling, but I don't mind retailers doing it when so many people are putting systems on eBay. That seems to help out the industry a little better (more money goes to the retailers, manufacturers, and developers/publishers).
i sold mine for $560!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270056905739&rd=1&rd=1
my friend said Fry's sold the ps3 with 8 games for over a grand and it was the only way to get it from them. What a holes.
It's not stupid corporate policies...1 mad customer is nothing compared to 25 mad customers. Either way, they sell every single one of those PS3's w/ no problem whether they sell you all of them or sell 1 customer 1 PS3. If they sell 1 per customer, you have 26 happy customers vs. 1 happy customer and 25-59 really pissed off customer.
Your friend has no right to argue with them. The reason they bundle the system with games is so that the people who buy them are the one's that actually want to use them. It keeps their customers happy. If you're going to have a system then you should at least have three games just for the sake of getting good use out of your system. Sure, it was stupid that they posted the price separately, but the policy is still correct. Your friend, however, is stupid for arguing with it. He was obviously buying them to sell them online as he tried to buy two. No store is going to feel pity on a customer like him. Also - the fact that he had the money to buy two showed also that he could afford the three games - so again, he should have just bought the system and games and went on his way without whining.
Man you really thought they would sell you all 20 of them? Man you are something else. It is people like you that cause people to get a cap busted in their A$$ in line at walmart.
I'm with RC & 3814...it's just my personal pereference...given that, I'm willing to wait till everything cools down, the 1st Gen models get a run through, and the bundle deals no longer exists. I wouldn't mind bundles really if there were games that I would actually be interested in, but for now, I have no problems chillin'
And now I'm suppose to feel sorry for scalpers?? At least he was not asked to buy the Wal-Mart bundle: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5303670 I have trouble picking 3 games worth buying from that list, let alone 8. Funny thing is, they say at the top "Choose 8 items below" as if you really have a choice -- there are only 8 games. At least SpongeBob is not one of the games.
The list fluctuates depending on what they have in stock. A minute ago it was 9. Regardless, it's a moot point since the bundle is sold out.
He was buying for himself as he already purchased Zelda. The other one was for sale on Ebay (if he could buy it). That was not his point for going into the store. It was to buy for himself, not scalp. He has Zelda which was about $50. Not he wants the system to play it and it's $250. That's $300 and all he wanted to spend (for now). Forcing him to spend $400 is ludacris. Gorging buy the retailer. And I doubt you can bring back unwanted items since it's considered a bundle.
I think you mean gouging and it's only gouging if it's important life sustaining items like milk and break and gas. A luxury item like a Wii or a PS3 is not. Just like I don't care if someone buys and sells on Ebay for a profit, supposedly 'depriving' real gamers from playing... I don't mind if a store makes you buy a bundle if you want it. You don't have to do it.
