If Porsche girl has a fit and finds keys to her parents sports car and kills herself with a car, or kills a family, should we examine more car control. For some reason, it's okay...what if she drove a Prius, she may have lived. Why should anyone need a Porsche? With its high capacity acceleration? ...think of the children. Btw, if you really want to see gore, do a search for "Porsche girl", not even a .50 big round could come close to the carnage. We need the government to have greater say in what is responsible in all facets of our lives.

Someone should not have had to spell it out for you. None of the conclusions he made were shocking or hard to come up with (though I give Go_Korea immense credit for going the full length and effort to convince the likes of even you).

So if elementary classes were held on public roads, then all 20? Lol. You guys with the whole guns vs cars thing are just weird. What stupid thing can I compare semi-automatic weapons to so that they don't take my guns! Lets try pain killers! Do you know how many elementary school kids would be dead if we put oxy in their lunches! Holy...ban oxy!

See, the real shocking thing about Porsche girl is that---she's a girl.

I think something like 90% of mass murders---possibly upwards of 95% are committed by men.

not that you'll see that in the mass media that will look at "mental illness" and "colored folks" without nearly as convincing a prevalence.

The point is the threat to kids by car abuse and misuse is far greater. In 2003, 2136 children never went to school the next day when they should have due to car negligence., Is it any less of a catastrophe of these deaths? Why don't we have a greater outcry to examine ways and to try different things in this area. Why is there such an impulse to take away things in the name of saving lives in one area but not the other. You ****ing idiots make no logical sense whatsoever. I don't get why we should micro-control one thing, when that thing, i.e. "mass shooting" has resulted in less deaths than lightning strikes in the last 10 damn years!...go ahead government, micro control everything if it means saving 1 life. but start with greater threats first. That is logic to me.

ROXRAN makes a good point until you realize how much more regulated cars and driving are than guns. The parents had to have registration, frequently updated, and licenses were only issued after passing tests, etc, etc.

ROXRAN, I applaud your very good point: namely, that cars kill far more people than guns. They are also built to convey people and do immense good in the lives of most people who need to move between places in one day that they could never manage in a horse-drawn cart. As Ottomaton said in another thread, the argument about the benefits of owning war weapons is central to our discussion, and IMHO, the benefits of gun ownership, beyond a hobby (even hunting is a hobby since it is generally more expensive than buying meat at the store; I know the economics of this well), are difficult to quantify or agree upon, unlike those of a car.

But back on topic of the OP, which is mental illness in the American web and "truthers," I found a good column about it from The Atlantic.

    http://www.theatlanticwire.com/national/2012/12/newtown-shooting-conspiracy-theories/60126/

    tiny excerpt:

    "...
Most revolve around the idea that the shooting was a "false flag" operation, designed to, among other things, dupe Americans into accepting a United Nations weapons treaty that will rob them of their gun rights. Who would want such a thing to pass? Depending on who you believe, it's the global banking industry, the Freemasons, and Barack Obama (who is also the anti-christ) acting on behalf of "his Illuminati Jewish handlers like Mayor Bloomberg of NY and Dianne Feinstein." Again, anti-Semitism finds a way in.

In most of the claims being passed around on numerous conspiracy websites, the shooter is merely a "patsy" meant to take the fall for a much larger operation, one involving as many as four other shooters. They were there not to kill children, but to kill the patsy in order cover their tracks. Standard operating procedure in black ops, of course.

Like many conspiracy theories, the myths of Newtown begin with a grain of truth and grow by way of a series of honest mistakes, unconfirmed rumors, and deliberate fantasy, then evolve into a kind of narrowly accepted allegation of some evil globe-spanning plot. ..."

I've bolded the last section. It fits well with my suggestion of "snow blindness."

B-Bob, I appreciate your words very much. Definitely one of the better posters on D&D even if we disagree.

Seriously, back at you, ROXRAN. We may not agree on this issue entirely (though I think we have overlap), but I for one don't consider you a "gun nut," or whatever other term one could fling.

I'm slowly trying to alter my posting behavior to one substantive, non-snotty post per day, and one silly post per day (Hangout or NBA dish, for instance.) I'm writing a book right now and need to focus.

    Cheers!

Well I consider Roxran a gun nut and I am sure he considers me another type of nut.
    That's the D&D in a nutshell. A bag of mixed nuts. :p

It's no use combatting this with actual logic but I don't see too many crazed would-be gunmen turning in frustration to Porsches as their means of murder.

"And then a dumba$$ dressed as the Joker crashed through the exit to the theater in his Porsche and killed five people seated in the front row. Then he got out of the crumpled car and, limping, started pelting people in Row 2 with the car jack.

"The perpetrator escaped and is believed to have attacked school children the next day with the manual he took from the same car's glove box. When asked for comment, he said, 'Well, the Porsche was in the police impound lot. My tyrannical government said it was evidence! HA! Evidence! Well, I outsmarted them, I had the manual with me!'

"When asked why he used the car manual, the perpetrator said, 'I would have used the spare tire but I didn't have enough time to get to it in the trunk before the other 98% of the people I didn't kill in the theater got to me! And, have you ever tried to massacre people with a spare tire? It's HEAVY!'

"When asked how he fit the car through the exit door, he gave a blank stare and replied, 'I don't know. But that Obama took my guns, so I had to do something!!"
