That's also stupid. You're a citizen, you swore an oath to the country, take it seriously or go back to where you came from.
That emblem of racism, mullets, trailer parks, and generations of incest has no place in America. It's as bad as the swatiska. At best it's a symbol of separation from the union (which is as bad, if not worse than flying another country's flag), at worst it's redneck naziism.
I remember a guy who took a room in my place back in college. I was living with a Jew, a Chinese guy from Hong Kong, a Korea and a black dude, and gave my room up to Jasper from Chattanooga - well first thing he does is unrolls his conferderate flag and hangs it on his wall over his bed. Let's just say the place wasn't a U.N. peace summit after that. I don't think the guy was a racist, I mean, why move into a place like that if you were. I just think it's southern pride and a lot of ignorance about history and how others preceive symbols. I once as a kid had a shirt that I wore with swastika's on it as I grew up in a Hindu family....and people mistook it for Nazi symbols....but the funny thing was that some guy came up to me and said - way to stand up to the Jews! Well anyway, it offended people because they couldn't tell a Nazi swastika from a Hindu one, so I stopped wearing it.
Does flying foreign flags affect others? Do people find the sight of foreign banners repugnant...does it affect their daily lives? No? Then why restrict the freedom of those who wish to fly the damn flag? I dont understand a ban of foreign flags under the auspice of "patriotism." Patriotism? My ass. That's nationalism at its finest, and America doesn't pride itself on being nationalist. The Germans who invaded all of Europe prided themselves on being nationalist. The rights of an individual to fly whatever flag he chooses should not be compromised. No matter what.
You don't believe in the concept of unalienable rights? Nowhere in the free speech part of the first amendment, by the way, does it specify a distinction between citizens and not. Police officers are never murdered by legal residents? I assume you then agree that legal residents and citizens are bad for the country as well.
I don't see trespassing as an unalienable right. The distinction isn't between citizens and non-citizens but rather those that are here legally and illegally. I agree that murderers are bad for the country and that's all the more reason why preventing foreign criminals from entering the country is a very good idea.
having pride in your country is not a crime. Ok let's let every Mexican have his flag on the front yard by itself, every Chinese with his flag on the front yard, etc. Yes I can see how that would make this place the bastion of left wing Utopian "let's get along" mindset.
I think the confederate flag shouldn't be flown, period. At best, it is a symbol of the same backwoods thinking that separated the Union in the first place. At worst, well we know what its worst is.
Anyone been to Pahrump lately? (C'mon, we know some of you have been to the Bunny Ranch). I drove by it on my way from Reno to Vegas in college. As with most of small NV towns, I don't remember them having too much of a diversity issue. The place is pretty white (except for a few of the ladies at the Bunny Ranch, I think).
Except we are not talking about trespassing. We're talking about more fundamental rights like speech. Do you believe that if you trespass, you give up your inalienable rights? Black people commit a large number of murders. Since murderers are bad for the country, should I assume you support preventing them from living in the country too?
That didn't answer the question. Do you believe it should be illegal? Do you also believe all the flags in Little Italy and Chinatowns across the country should be made illegal? After 9/11, when US flags were put up in windows and at memorial services all over the world, should those have all been illegal since they were not flown alongside native flags?
It seems to be your contention that if someone were to break into your home that they have the right to remain there and exercise their inalienable rights to free speech. I don't agree with that. Any black people that are here illegally should be prevented from living in this country, murderer or not. A black person who murders hasn't necessarily violated immigration law so why you would even bring that up is just off. You asked me what harm is done with illegal immigration. I feel that having 12 million undocumented people here illegally, with whatever percentage of them being crimnals and some being murderers, is a problem. I want to have these people screened and documented before they come into this country so that murderers, felons, and potential terrorists don't have the opportunity to cause harm here. If you want to keep the borders open, allowing anyone and everyone free passage into the country, then I completely disagree with you.
