Alcoholism runs in my family as well. I'll have a beer socially, but they are so few and far in between that it doesn't effect me at all. Sometimes a nice cold Corona with a lime is nice to share with a couple of friends but very seldomly.

Unlike most of the people here apparently, I enjoy having a good beer when watching a football game or with a nice, hearty meal (I like the taste of beer by the way...beer actually comes in more "flavors" than most people here know about, try googling "craft beer" sometime - in my fridge I have a bottle of Rogue Chocolate Stout, a Spaten Optimator, and a Kell's Irish Lager, all distinctly different tastes and all taste NOTHING like Bud, Coors, Miller). I enjoy having a well-crafted cocktail at a dinner party or the theater. There's nothing like a good wine to compliment a tender steak over a romantic dinner. How about popping open a bottle of champagne during a celebration? A cheap, light beer and a hot dog at the ballpark?

I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with alcoholic beverages and many times a certain drink can go together perfectly with a certain occassion.

However, I do strictly believe in moderation. I actually wrote a 10+ paper over the summer about the failures of society regarding the alcohol culture in the United States compared to other societies around the world. In many other countries, alcohol IS a part of their culture! The difference being that it is often used in a responsible, social manner.

Yes sir, and I have no problem admitting it because it is one of a few incidents where I have learned how important it is to drink in moderation (plus, I'm in college, give me a break!). There is no doubt in my mind that over the next few years I will have a few more drunken nights - next semester after being accepted to law school will be one of them - stay tuned next spring for that story. Being young affords me to have those kinds of learning experiences and the most important thing is that I definitely have learned from them.

There is nothing "cool" about being drunk and I'll be the first to admit that, but some of the people here act like any drink that has alcohol in it is bad.
