IIRC correctly, they didn't have very good candidates, he was "the best of the rest" and people were disappointed when he was hired.
Hilarious to see the pic of Jim Rome on Oregon's play calling board. Chip Kelley had promised Rome he'd put something in there for him. Huge stand on the goal line from Auburn.
unbelievable. a seemingly sure TD on the reception gets tripped up at the 3 yard line, and then a seemingly sure TD on the 3rd down run somehow gets shoestring tackled at the half yard line and then, very unsurprisingly, they stuff oregon on a predictable up the middle run. you gotta try something with some misdirection or a pass on one of those 4 plays. running right at them already cost you a safety, now it's cost you a TD. that fake punt is now for naught. chizik apparently has that miles luck as well.
musberger keeps mentioning sacks are taking away from newton's rushing total as if a) they don't take away from every qb's running total and b) newton's got 120 yards of rushing but 110 yards worth of sacks or something. neither number is a big number.
He was at full speed on the return following the last Auburn FG and inexplicably made a cut to the right. That cut led him to the coverage. Baffling move.
I think Chip is pushing his luck a little too much. they were stuffing the run, kick it and take the pts
I caught Romey's mug on the board, as well. He's tight with Kelly, even had him do a correspondence piece for JRIB last season. WAR Chip Kelly.
