Hows this for an ending for you? You said it yourself, Oregon gave up on the play. Congrats to Auburn.
Here goes the SEC worship for another year. I wish either Auburn or Oregon would've blown the other out instead of seeing some fluke tackle leading to a small run turning into a huge run to win the game.
IT FEELS GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER!!! IT FEELS GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER!!! IT FEELS GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER!!! Wish I was at Toomer's Corner right about now!
except they did tackle him. 999 times out of 1000 some part of the rb hits the ground with that tackle. the game was basically decided on the 1 in 1000 times that his leg somehow was just parallel enough to the ground and just enough on top of the defender that somehow is knee didn't touch the ground. if cam newton leads auburn down with great throws or the auburn line just crushes the oregon D for great runs, then great for them. but a play where a bunch of guys are standing around and staring and that turns into the game clincher is just a terrible way to finish the season. hell, even... the guy who kept playing until the whistle was blown was standing around thinking the play was over and then just decided to start running again and it worked.
lol, he threw him to the ground about as sure as can be done. planning for the guy's thigh just happening to land on you to perfectly keep his knee up isn't really possible and not indicative of making a bad play, it's just random luck and les chizik happened to benefit from it.
I think that's the only thing that bothers me about this whole game. I really don't have a dog in this hunt, but I don't like seeing cheaters win, and Cam Newton is a cheater. It bugs me that, in a year or two, the NCAA will finally deliver "justice", but the Oregon players will never see any. Just a sad, sad reality of college ball.
But if an Oregon player runs into to tackle him after he was barely not dragged to the ground and gets a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty for a late hit, he become a GOAT. The call is technically correct, but you cannot deny that, this play and ref's pick on 4th down took away from this game. Though you could argue, that the game as a whole was not all that entertaining. Yes it was a boxing match, but it seemed to more of a "who will make fewer mistakes & errors" championship game than a who will show they are championship level team.
I'm glad there was some fresh blood playing the big game tonight. Cam Newton said nobody would have thought Auburn would have done this 5 months ago. Even moreso, nobody thought Auburn would have done this after hiring Gene Chizik off 3-9 and 2-10 seasons at Iowa State. Good for them. Just wish it wouldn't have ended this way.
Not to be Buzz Killington, but I suppose the Daddy pay-for-play episode will probably be an afterthought
