I thought this thread was one of the best in the GARM! The average thread quality there went down when this was moved ;).

If you're Mexican then it's corn, any other ethnicity it's floor.

yeah i didnt get that either, Mexicans love flour tortillas...they may prefer corn for tacos in Mexico though, but flour tortillas have their place. Tex-mex cuisine does favor flour tremendously though.

    Kam, you've never had either??

Corn tortillas are all bout the same taste for the most part, regardless of brand or area, but flour are not. You can love one kind and hate another. Personally I think the HEB brand are pretty good, better than most other brands. Taco Cabana's are pretty good and they'll actually sell you a dozen separately if you ask.

I've had both. I usually buy flour, but I saw something on tv that made corn look really good.

I used to be in the flour camp, but I might come over to the corn camp.

I say Flour only for burritos and fajitas and corn for everything else.

A corn tortilla with a great taste is awesome!

I actually have been eating whole wheat tortillas recently because, if you are going to eat them, the whole wheat ones are supposed to be less bad for you. In restaurants I will get corn tortillas because someone told me that they had fewer calories (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

The flour tortillas almost always taste better.

Most Mexican restaurants (at least in Texas) make their own flour tortilla but buy their corn ones already made. If you like corn tortillas though, and you are in the mood for more upscale Tex-mex, I highly recommend El Tiempo. They make their own corn tortillas, and damn are they good. I have a weakness for all of the "unhealthy" foods, but I'd rather eat their queso with their warm, fresh, homemade corn tortillas than with their corn chips. They're that good.

Everytime I go to a Taqueria whenever the waitresses ask if I want flour or corn they always smile when I say flour, as if they knew I was going to say that. Or they don't even bring up the option for me to have corn tortillas.

I guess they just expect white people to order flour, which they are correct in my case.

    corn for tacos, tostadas, etc.
flour for fajitas and burritos and quesadillas

corn is definitely more traditional mexican, though. gotta do corn when ordering from the taco truck.

My wife is Mexican and they only eat flour tortillas for breakfast (especially, when they are home-made). Other than that Corn all-the-way.
