So far been to 3 of the 4 Toros home games, today they lost in OT 95-93 to the flame. Marcus Fizer has skills, but just does not have the fire he had at Iowa State, that is probably what kept him from staying in the big league. Andre Emmitt can score around the basket but his passes are ALWAYS a half second late on the break, he just does not like giving it up. Ezra Charles is intriguing, he has a very good shot out to beyond the 3pt line, and seems to play well as a teamate. Zimmerman at PG is ok, but nothing fantastic, Andre Barrett ate his lunch today. The one that intrigues me the most is Scott Merritt, he has some skills but it is his confidence that seems to be missing. If he ever gets that down, he can be really good. Anyway, the offer still stands if anyone wants to go to a game, I have 6 season tickets, and 2 of them are right behind the home teams bench.....been chatting with several people that have come to the game, Otis Thorpe, Rudy T...etc..etc... But mostly to Johnny Moore (he is an assistant coach). I kind of got on them today, because they were down 2 in the 4th with 26 seconds to go, and they did not foul immediatly, I looked at Johnny and said " Why would you waste 19 seconds and THEN foul?" He kind of shook his head and smiled....... DD
Rules are identical to the NBA. If they stopped the other team cold with a 24 second violation they would have had 2 seconds to shoot, it was a less than stellar decision by Dennis Johnson, and I was behind the bench kind of going...."Foul...not enough time....foul" They finally fouled, the guy missed both free throws and we tied it up at the buzzer only to lose in OT. DD
Thanks DD. I'm going to try to catch up with you at some point when I feel comfortable taping a Rox game instead of bowing to my compulsion to watch it live! The Toros website lists Merritt at 6-10 / 240 from Marquette. Seems to need some time in the weight room? Thought you may find it interesting that DJ got the Austin job via a recommendation from Larry Bird.... http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sports/stories/toros/11/25toros.html
Tim, DD, Gater- We should hit a game sometime, it would be cool to see Fizer and Emmett, and talk to Rudy T and OT? Hell yeah!! I wanted to get an internhip w/ the Toros for the Spring semester, but they said they were fully stocked.
