Eh, I don't think that matters. There's a ton of crossover between pro sports and the NCAA, especially for more generic names. Bulls, Cavaliers, Hawks, Warriors (and Cardinals, Tigers, Panthers, Cowboys, etc. in other leagues) are all taken in both professional and NCAA settings. Raptors screams "1990s fad" because that was the naming logic at the time. At least Huskies has some historical meaning to it and doesn't sound like a marketing ploy to elementary school kids.
Wow! No love today! No biggie, I thought it would be funny. Guess I just have a sad sense of humor. (Shrug.)
It'd be dumb to change the team name at this point after the goodwill they've built up with Raptors over the last couple of decades. They'd have to start over again. In general, you try not to do that unless you have a damaged brand (like the OKC Sonics). And, I take the opposite view of the faddishness of the name. It was kiddish in the '90s because of the naming proximity to Jurassic Park. Now that that association has faded, they can own the name better and reinforce its association with Ontario's own archeological history, and be an animal mascot that is unique and has some swag.
What they need to do is update the look from the wrong Jurassic Park look. It was smaller, and has feathers. It was a flightless bird. A bird of prey. Definitely fits in the NBA name groups.
