You prove the stupidity. Who in their right mind would give Jordan Hill (Amir Johnson) $34 million guaranteed? The difference between the two? Amir Johnson has had 5 seasons in the NBA to prove he isn't worth much of anything. Jordan Hill has played in exactly 47 total NBA games in one season and actually may have an upside.

This is a very bad "value move". Sheer lunacy.

i guess most people here dont watch raptors

amir johnson actually did pretty well this season. he hustled and played his ass off with every minute hes given crashing for offensive boards running the floor, and provided a lot of energy to that soft team.

and hes only 23 i think raptors did it for his potential

but still i think 34 million is still overpaying, but hes not a scrub either

Give Sealclubber a break. At Amir's current rate of progress, he'll be as good as Kwame Brown in another 10 SEASONS!

Carl Landry hustles and provides alot of energy also. I wouldn't give him $34 mil, even though I like him.

Morey has spoiled you guys, not everybody has the wizard calling the shots. He finds good power forwards like nothing, but for the rest of the league a mid level deal is what it costs to get an average rotation player. The mid level deal is by definition an average salary. Average salary-average player.

    thats not my point

i did say 34 mil is overpaying, but people on this board thinks AJ is just some scrub and theres no reason for raptors to lock him up for 5 years

I admit to not watching the Raptors much. But when I've seen Amir Johnson play with the Pistons and Raptors, nothing stands out in my mind besides hustle and fouling. Correct me if I'm wrong: My impression is he doesn't have much skill at all. He just maximizes his impact by playing hard and fouling. He's the kind of guy fans like to cheer for but his game hasn't developed at all over 5 seasons.

Assuming the new CBA significantly reduces NBA salaries or guarantees, I'll say right now that Amir Johnson is untradeable until the last year of his contract.

And 6 pts/5rebounds is average? You mention Hill, but Hill as he is right now is probably a below average, and we hope we can get significantly better due to various factors which Johnson does not possess at all. From my perspective, the MLE can get someone like Ariza, or Miller, whom are legit starters in this league. Johnson is not.

He struggled to get playing time over Kwame Brown. How good can he be, if he was losing minutes to one of the biggest draft blunders in the last decade. Thanks MJ!

Well kwame brown was traded for Pau Gasol so how bad can he be if he was traded for one of the best front court players in the world. ;)

I found the deal a little rich too, but with the departure of Bosh and increase in minutes - perhaps even starting over Ed Davis - Johnson will earn that MLE type money. When he starts, his foul rate is lower as he changes his game and is a bit less of a sparkplug.

Further, it appears that NYK, PHX and two other teams had MLE type offers in place if their first choices didn't pan out, so Colangelo kept him with an MLE offer himself.

The only problem is the fouls, which have been high throughout the 5 years he's been in the NBA.

    Precisely.

90% of you bashing this deal did not watch Amir play last sesaon.

Overpaid? Probably... but Amir is no scrub.
