Arrowhead (1989) -- Heston brawls with Palance (we want to see a rematch) when an Apache chief returns to his tribe after being schooled in the East to find his nemesis, a bitter cavalry scout, wants to continue their private war.
1. Good Bad and the Ugly 2. Little Big Man (one of the best movies of all time) God I love some of the quotes from that flick: 3. McClintock 4. Fistful of Dollars 5. Blazing Saddles 6. Tombstone 7. Dances With Wolves 8. The Cowboys 9. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 10. Outlaw Josie Wales
This should have booted pale rider from my list. I forgot it. But Young guns has to stay on based on peyote trip content.
Shane is tops. Honorable mention to Duel in the Sun. Although perhaps a little disappointing for a movie starring Gregory Peck and directed by Selznick, Jennifer Jones is so damn hot playing the lusty, trampy (insert politically incorrect adjective here), the movie deserves a footnote.
It saddens me greatly to only see three mentions of The Outlaw Josie Wales. And all of your lists opinions are null and void when Tombstone is not number 1. It is that damn good.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk." Once upon a time in the West "Inside the dusters there were three men..... Inside the men, there were three bullets" For a Few Dollars More "I've know [he was a bounty killer] since the day he arrived" The Magnificent Seven "You hear that Sotero? 'Ride on' he says. TO ME!!!" High Planes Drifter "It's what people know about themselves inside that makes them afraid" The Outlaw Josie Wales "Dyin' ain't much of a livin" Pale Rider "Nothing like a good piece of hickory" Fistful of Dollars ".. and me, right smack in the middle" The Quick and the Dead "THAT was fast!" Unforgiven "He shoulda armed himself if he's gonna decorate his saloon with my friend." -- droxford
I am a huge fan of Westerns. My favorite is Once Upon A Time In The West. One of the best casts in history, Fonda is one bad dude in this film. This film has it all, and I have seen it at least 10 times. I just can't get the sound of that harmonica out of my head.
Try getting the theme to Once upon a time in America out of your head. Ennio can write some addictive melodies.
I really like Westerns, but easily, my four favorties are Lonesome Dove The Outlaw Josey Wales Tombstone Dances with Wolves
**************** Okay, Lonesome Dove is number one. But I didn't know it would qualify. That was such an epic. The defining moment in my life.
That's the one. And after seeing Little Big Man on the list I realize I should have listed it on mine. That was a great movie.
Anything with John Wayne The Cowboys, Rio Bravo, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, True Grit, The Sons of Katie Elder, El Dorado, The Alamo, and as Al Bundy always said "Hondo!!!". Being a youngster.... Tombstone Dances with Wolves Wyatt Earp Maverick (yeah the new one!)
I actually got a resume from an actor once that listed "Can sing like Lee Marvin" in his special abilities. Not a big fan of Westerns in general, though I have enjoyed the following: Blazing Saddles Support Your Local Sheriff Support Your Local Gunfighter Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid The Magnificent Seven I guess that's it unless we can count The Three Amigos, as well. (And I did like The Frisco Kid and The Villain when I was a kid).
Im suprised more people havent mentioned lonesome dove. i thought that was what westerns were suppost to be...
