Me too, mostly because my Irish-Italian wife goes freaking psycho on: 1. people who forget to turn off their cell phones 2. people who talk in the movies 3. people who bring babies, who always end up crying We only go see the major special effects flicks, and then at the most kid-unfriendly theater on the most kid-unfriendly hours possible. Oh, I forgot that I really dug 28 Days Later.
Charlie's Angels? Probably the 2nd worst movie of the year next to Kill Bill. BTW - A great review of Kill Bill: http://www.geocities.com/stjamespl.geo/br03/brkillbill1.html Top Five Best Movies of 2003: 1: The Last Samurai - Absolutely loved this. Beautifully shot, amazing action, classy love story, great acting. A lock for Best Picture. 2. Mystic River - Amazing. Eastwood delivers again. Sean Penn is a lock for Best Actor, and Robbins should also get Oscar consideration. 3. Matchstick Men - Ridley Scott shows his versatility with this movie. Nicolas Cage should get Oscar consideration with his quirky role. Cage also flashes versatility, and the rest of the cast delivers. 4. Return of the King - A good finale for the trilogy, but it gets by too much on scope and story. The acting is subpar, dialogue is spotty, and even the action is uninspiring. The CGI shots of the armies are nice, but they get old after awhile. Jackson is best with Shelob and the horror elements. 5. X-Men 2 - I usually don't include Action or SciFi movies in good movie lists, but if any deserve to be on it then this does. Awesome, awesome movie. Writing, acting, action all blended together to create a solid flick. Out of these top five, I would only consider the top three to be truly good movies, but I wanted to make a top five list so I had to include the last two. Oh well 2003. I still haven't seen 21 Grams, Cold Mountain, or Lost in Translation so those will probably be 4-6 on the list.
Natalie Portman is really nice, I used to go to school with her. I never wanted to bother her, but she's the type that would smile and say hi in the hallway to everyone. No new movies from her lately though.
You know punch drunk love was pretty good, shows Sandler's range... but I much prefer him in the pure comedic roles, hopefully 50 first dates will be funny.
Nothing comes close to Return of the King. None of the other movies matter (though I loved Master and Commander and the Pirates flick).
You don't have to give him credibility. You can simply read the review and decide whether or not it reflects your own opinions about the movie. For me, it did so I enjoyed reading it.
awesome! so it wasn't just me. i'm glad they're showing it in the US. it's a great movie that got no oscar love for some reason. probably because of damn politics. best foriegn film, i think, since life is beautiful. i hope they don't dub it and get a good translator for the subtitles.
man this critic is a hater. he's the insecure one. i know i'm not an intellectual and i went with my girlfriend, who liked the movie as well. he just wants attention by giving it such a horrible review. kill bill didn't change my life or anything but it was thoroughly enjoyable. "silly rabbit, trix are for kids" I loved that line!!!
My favorites so far this year are: Finding Nemo City of God Return of the King/LOTR Trilogy Pirates of the Caribbean Freaky Friday Whale Rider slight spoiler . . . Last Samurai, except for the ending. . . . spoiler I enjoyed Bend it Like Beckham but I thought the story was overambitious, way too long and too many plotlines for a comedy. I've seen Hero, the fight sequences are cool but the denouement stinks.
1. kill bill- "go go yubari" was so f'ing cool. she was such a little smart ass that you couldn't help but to fall in love with her. 2. bad santa- possibly one of the funniest/saddest movies ever. that kid deserves some kind of award or something. 3. 28 days later- throwing up is the most gross and scariest thing to me. when ever i see somebody barf, i get light-headed and feel like barfing myself. having to see running zombies throw up made this movie a classic. too bad the alternate ending wasn't the real ending though. 4. xmen 2- the superheroines were better than the guys. mystique's middle finger scene made me a fan of hers. lady deathstrike was one bad mofo. 5. matrix reloaded- agent smith, twins, and persephone made this movie. screw neo.
Oops. I forgot about those two already. Bad Santa was pretty good. The ending on 28 days later seemed a bit cut up/didn't transition well IIRC. re: Barfing yourself - worst movie I have ever seen for this is DeadAlive by Peter Jackson. Actually more disgusting than stuff from Troma, which is saying a lot.
just read a few things about "dead alive"? zombie screwing, lawnmowers, etc. it's a horror/comedy though? i'm a firm believer that the two shouldn't be combined, but if it has as much gore in it that you say it does... i'll check it out. almost forgot that "bad santa" had an upchuck scene in it too at the beginning. sick stuff.
1. return of the king 2. pirates of the carribean 3. punch drunk love 4. the italian job 5. old school
Dead Alive is the first movie I had to avert my eyes from the screen because it was so disgusting. It has cheesy special effects but the semblance to reality is close enough. I had trouble watching the cutting scenes in Thirteen, too, so YMMV.
Movies that I liked: 1. Last Samurai 2. Bad Boys II 3. Matchstick Men 4. The Rundown 5. Pirates of the Carribean 6. Scary Movie 3 7. Finding Nemo 8. American Wedding 9. Seabiscuit 10. Out Of Time Movies that I didn't like: 1. Bad Santa 2. Xmen 2 3. Matrix Rloaded 4. Charlie's Angels 2 5. The Fighting Temptations 6. Kill Bill (Only watched first 10 mins, and then have to leave with the girls that I went to movie with) 7. The Haunted Mansion 8. S.W.A.T. 9. The Medallion 10. Freddy vs. Jason
