Anything involving John Hughes is a start. His 80's filmography is top notch. 3 "Vacation" movies, the "Molly Trilogy" teen movies. Couple tech themed movies like WarGames and Weird Science, there's something for everybody. # National Lampoon's Class Reunion (1982) # At Ease (1983) (TV) # Mr. Mom (1983) # National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) # Nate and Hayes (with David Odell) (1983) # WarGames (1983) # Sixteen Candles (1984) (also Director) # The Breakfast Club (1985) (also Director) # Weird Science (1985) (also Director) # National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985) (Story Only) # Pretty in Pink (1986) # Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) (also Director) # Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) # Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) (also Director) # She's Having a Baby (1988) (also Director) # The Great Outdoors (1988) # Uncle Buck (1989) (also Director) # National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) For women, of the movies listed in the thread I think Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Neverending Story and Roger Rabbit were the best received. Thats without paying attention to the true chick flicks like Beaches and Steel Magnolias, Terms of Endearment, the sappy tear jerker stuff I couldnt ever sit down to watch. This is a movie they keep mentioning at work
Awesome movie.... Came on TNT the other day....usually dont watch oldie movies.....couldnt stop after seeing a couple minutes of it....
I loved Helen Slater as Billie Jean. How about Summer Lovers. The Greek Islands were beautiful in that film.
Here's a nice reference list of 577 80's movies. And there's still a lot of movies it leaves off! (Not that "Blame It On Rio" or "Tarzan the Ape Man" are any good, but the first glimpse of gratuitous booby shots in movies stands outs in my mind) http://www.fast-rewind.com/Browse.htm (Is this for the OP anymore ) Surprised that 80's movies still have any staying power, really. Same as 70's music, just keeps on staying relevant somehow.
Thanks everyone. She really isn't into silly movies, so that seems to knock off half of the 80's flicks. She likes dramas like Rain Man (she saw it) and chick flicks with a storyline like Ghost (she saw it). I'm gonna go through everyone's suggestions and make a list of 10-15.
