I don't agree with that list, but it's too much work ATM to compile my own. Star wars was scifi. (space ships) Big trouble in little china was fantasy. (magic) Jurassic park was absolutely scifi.
They Live? It was an entertaining B movie, but you seriously can't think it's one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies of all time? <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Wp_K8prLfso" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yep, count me in on The Matrix.... 1. Matrix 2. Moon 3. 2001: Space Odyssey 4. Akira Those are the only ones that I can remember at the moment....
The biggest problem I had with the list was listing Star Wars at #20. Just for reference for those who haven't gone through the list Independence Day is ahead of Star Wars. JUST WRONG I agree with the posters who suggested District 9 should be on the list and surprised its not. I am not sure if they counted Inception as sci-fi but I think it should fit. As for Akira they may not have considered it since its an Anime. Regarding They Live. I think it definitely belongs on the list. On the surface it seems like just a cheesy vehicle to get Roddy Rowdy Piper in a movie but it actually addresses many issues that were as relevant in the 1980's as of now. It deals with complex issues of things globalization, class, income inequity and control of media with plenty of ass (and crotch) kicking.
According to "Dinner and a Movie" trivia, the fight scene between Roddy Piper and Keith David in the alley is the longest running filmed fist fight in movie history. I don't know what criteria they use to make the claim, as I can swear that Rocky boxing matches are probably longer, but it is extremely long and brutal. (South Park even spoofed it)
