Just three, though I really do want to see LOTR. All three turned out fairly good - Shrek I loved, A.I. I liked, and I found Bridget Jones's Diary to be a lot better than I figured it would be.
The Houston Press smokes crack. Here's their list of the Top 10 movies of 2001: 10. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back 9. Atlantis: The Lost Empire Yes8. The Charcoal People 7. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 6. Vengo 5. The Shipping News 4. Waking Life 3. Moulin Rouge 2. Two-way tie! Simon Magus/Simon Mágus 1. Three-way tie! Pandaemonium,The Mists of Avalon and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. I guess to be a cool, hip fishwrap you have to go out of your way to pick cool, hip, off the wall movies. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was the biggest disappointment of the year for me. The whole Silent Bob character is just not funny, imo. The Press called it their "funniest movie of the year". Horseballs...I'd pick Shrek and Royal Tenenbaums over it in a heartbeat. OS
26 I think LOTR will climb much higher since it is still in theaters. I plan on seeing it again this week.
I saw 15, some only on video. And a couple only because I have kids (Rat Race and Cats & Dogs being the notable "Only Because I Have Kids" movies. I'm not sure I would've seen Monster's Inc or Shrek at the theater had I not had kids, either).
18 Liked a few, couldn't stand several. Only LOTR and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stand out.....well Castaway was pretty good too.
