I'd agree here with top 5, just swap 1 & 2, as well as 4 & 5... 2004 NLCS loss would be in top 10.

Come on, cut Clyde some slack. It was the last game of his career. There are more important things in live than beating the Jazzholes.

And even if the Rockets did win that game, no way they get past San Antonio, let alone the Lakers to get to the finals without Barkley.

You're very right about that. In some ways this was more gut wrenching than the Buffalo loss. The Bills loss took a whole half to develop. You could just feel it coming. The Denver loss was so sudden. Damn Elway and that last drive. 3 fourth down conversions.

I do remember the Rockets played the Spurs later on that night and Sleepy Floyd hit a shot at the buzzer to beat them. That made me feel a little better, but man that loss was just DEVASTATING.

    In no particular order:

1983 NCCA Title Game - Houston vs NC State (no way that NC State team should have been within 10 points of PSJ)

1986 World Series (Game 6 in Particular)

    1997 Western Conference Finals

    2003 ALCS Game 7

Oklahoma State losing to a vastly inferior Georgia Tech team in the 2004 Final 4. Damn, did that piss me off - also cost me $155 bucks in the office NCAA tourney pool.

Amazingly enough, the 92 Oilers-Bills isn't on my list because it was so outrageous that I laughed my way through that.

top five in no order are.....

Game 7 93 Houston at Seattle...Seattle got all the calls in OT and won. This is heartbreak when the refs decide a game of this importance.

Game 6 97 WCF---Stockton's 3 made my heart temporarily drop an inch

Oilers vs Broncos---91 AFC Divisional...man that last Elway drive made me depressed the whole evening.

Game 1 2001 Braves at Astros---Chipper's HR crushed me because he hit it off Wagner

2001 big XII Champ......man, this might hurt the most. In fact it does. A shot at the national championship game against a team UT crushed earlier in the year, with the game being near UT's backyard in Dallas, with most of the fans bleeding orange. and all this after losing to OU anyway. UT choked in this game.

    Second.

Actually, it was four-- three interceptions and one lost fumble. And frankly, I would say Greg Davis took it upon himself to start calling passes when Cedric Benson was gashing Colorado's defense like a sloppy gold-and-black vagina.

Your recollection seems to differ from mine. I do remember the FG to make it 36-30, but my math, 30-3 = 27, and 27 + 7 = 34, meaning we were not about to take the lead.

I guess I ought to offer my top five:

    5) Buster Douglas getting knocked the **** out by Evander Holyfield, 1990.

    4) Michigan 13, Ohio State 9, 1996. ****ing Michigan. ****ing Cooper.

    3) 1993 WCF, Game 7, Sonics-Rockets

    2) 1997, Jazz-Rockets game 6.

    1) 2002, OU 35, Texas 24. 2001 was bad; the insane blowouts were worse. But 2002 was a year when we had the game and were in a position to win, and it just fell apart late. Mother****.

I'm glad you brought this up. I've never had much respect for Clyde, but mainly for the way he handled the UH situation. But his postgame grin in Game 5 left me appalled.

I agree with all of the ones posted here, just thought I'd add one of my own...

OSU vs UConn in 99 Final Four...

From worst to first led by Scoonie Penn and Michael Redd, the Buckeyes lost a heartbreaker and ended a series of surprising upsets in the tourney. It was a great blip on the radar screen for OSU bball...but they returned to mediocrity afterwards. (All of the amazing PGs from that tourney, Khalid El-amin, Mateen Cleaves, Scoonie Penn...they all ended up not making the NBA cuts...while the SGs Redd and Rip Hamilton are now "stars"...interesting stuff).

I didn't know you were a Buckeye fan BrianKagy...

    5) Rockets vs Sonics. I hated every time we lost to them in the playoffs.

    4) Rockets vs Utah. It's already been spoken.

    3) Astros vs Mets. I felt it was their year but was sadly mistaken.

    2) Oilers vs Buffalo. That just left me dazzed. A dream-land-like, what-just-happened, feeling.

    1) Cougars vs NC State. That was my first and biggest heartbreak in my sports following. That was not supposed to happen. I still blame Guy Lewis for that one. I've seen my teams get outcoached so may times, but that one was unbelievable. Nothing has come close as this one. It was {ridiculously} like the death of a close family member. I don't even like it when the topic is brought up - 20+ years later.

    1. oilers vs chiefs -- after starting 1-4, the oilers win 11 straight to finish 12-4. great on both sides of the ball. most people picked them to go to the superbowl
    2. oilers vs bills -- the biggest high and the biggest low all in one game.
    3. 04 astros vs cardinals - after going on top 3-2 with roger clemens and roy oswalt available, i thought the astros were a lock to get in. after evening the score 4-4 in game 6, and with brad lidge on the mound and oswalt warming up, i was confident the astros would eventually win. then, garner put in miceli
    4. 97 rockets vs jazz -- not much to say except: i hate karl malone and john stockton and jeff hornacek
    5. 93 houston vs seattle -- the rockets should have won that game in overtime. nba officiating blows...

Those 3 Oiler losses in a row (Denver, Buffalo, Kansas City) were so devastating to me that I don't even like to think about them even now. Each year, I thought it was "our year" and each year was more heartbreaking than the last.

I remember that KC game when that Chief scored a TD and threw the ball at the Buddy Ryan sign. Then when it was clear that the game was over, they zoomed in on Warren Moon and he had his head covered by a towel. I remember thinking "man, this is probably Moons last game in an Oiler uniform" and as it turned out, it was.

    DARK DAYS

    It's just that heartbreaking, dude.

Every time March Madness comes around, I have to sit around and watch that ****ing clip over and over again.

I have to sit and listen to NCSU kids talk about it.

Same with the cotton bowl. Every time Saint Patrick's day comes around.. that game is shown CONSTANTLY on ESPN Classic.

I watched both those games on ESPN Classic when I was a freshman here, not knowing the outcomes of either, I'm pretty sure I felt the same heartbreak those in attendance did.

Nothing can match the collective choke-job that was the early 90s Oilers. That was such a talented team, they built up expectations on an annual basis only to crush your heart out in the end every year.
