Frazier>Kidd Frazier>Nash Frazier>Stockton Frazier>Payton Frazier>Thomas Frazier>Cousy Frazier>Paul Frazier>Maravich Frazier>Archibald Frazier>KJ
No, that's the entire point. If Nash had a good defensive big, that big can help Nash defend Tony Parker or whomever, by protecting the paint and the boards. But a good defensive PG like Kidd can't do anything about helping the bigs defend. Ergo, bigs are much more critical than point guards on defense and thus a point guard's defense is nowhere as critical as his ability to facilitate an offense, which Nash did better than anyone but Magic. Also, I'm completely shocked that "Kidd led the Nets to 2 Finals" is actually a serious argument. If you want perspective.... Remember the 2005 Mavericks? The ones that stomped on the first season of McGrady-Yao in that humiliating Game 7? The one that had 58 wins? That team had more wins and a higher SRS than any team Kidd beat to get to the Finals. And by a lot. Nash beat them. The 2009-10 Blazers and Spurs had the same number of wins as the toughest team Kidd beat and a higher SRS than the 2002-03 Pistons. Nash beat them. Heck, if we go back to Nash's Dallas days, the 2001-02 Mavs had 49 wins and a higher SRS than the Pistons, and the Mavericks won. So, Nash consistently defeated playoff opponents tougher than Kidd, but somehow Kidd is the one with the playoff success. Right.
1. Magic - arguably the greatest player of all time. 2. Big O - arguably the greatest player of all time. 3. Chris Paul - clutch, great defender 4. John Stockton 5. Gary Payton That's my top 5. Of course JLIN7 is still early in his career
I think Stockton is a little overrated. Don't get me wrong, his longevity is incredible, but he never peaked high, which to me is a problem. Still definitely top 10. Seriously though, HOW ARE YOU PEOPLE LEAVING FRAZIER AND COUSY OUT OF YOUR TOP 5???
Stockton didn't peak high? Look at his stats from 1988 through 1995, then look at his stats for the rest of his career.
His 3 point percentage is pretty even starting with his 4th season in the NBA, and he was a backup PG to Rickey Green for his first 3 seasons so you can't really count that against him.
magic and big o as 1 and 2 no doubt. i am surprised that kevin johnson is not getting much love. before injuries hit him, he speed and scoring ability was incredible. he is iverson with 10+ assists. and he dunked in hakeem
My top 5 PGs that I saw play: Magic Stockton Isiah Payton Kidd If Lebron played PG full-time, I would rank like this: Lebron Magic Stockton Isiah G.Payton Kidd would be a lot higher because he can rebound and steal a lot. His lack of accuracy on FG%, especially 3pt FG% dogged him for 15 years before he got over 35%+ the last 5 years. Stockton is too unselfish (52% FG career shooter) to be my #2 PG of all-time. Lebron maybe listed as SF, but he is really the PG of the team.
That's ridiculous. I wouldn't call Tony Parker system point guard, because he is great point guard, but Spurs are running similar offense to MDA. Even Lin looked good in that offense. On the other hand, you don't even need a system with CP3, because he is the system by himself. When Spurs were winning titles it was because of their elite defense, offense was pretty much mediocre expect for last few years. I don't see a skill in which Tony Parker is better than Chris Paul. Parker also underperformed in playoffs many times which isn't the case for CP3 expect maybe once or twice(and he was injured). I just find it impossible to believe that if you switched CP3 and Parker, Spurs would get worse and Clippers would get better.
Spurs' offense is so much more sophisticated than MDA, it's real tough to run. Even Lin? That's a dangerous thing to say because before Lin was a starter they weren't doing well. Lin is a good passer and has elite speed. There's a reason MDA and CP3 have never won anything whereas the Spurs are aiming for their fifth title and Lin got that Knicks team into the playoffs. CP3 is a system by itself, that's true; CP3 is more skilled that's also true. Parker has better qualities in speed and the tear-drop. The main problem is that CP3 hasn't led his team to any places whereas TP is the best player on a championship caliber team and has been a finals mvp. If you put CP3 on the Spurs they just might lose more. That's certainly possible. TP has good knowledge of the system, every teammate, the coach and the thick playbook. They have tremendous chemistry. He used to be underrated because he's the teammate of the greatest PF of all time. Now that Duncan is so old, TP deserves the credit. Anyways, it's debatable but definitely not ridiculous. Just because Amare is more skilled than Duncan doesn't mean he wins more and is the better player.
Duncan was always the best player on the team and he still is. Parker just became first option on offense, but Duncan is still the best Spurs playoff performer even this season. Spurs have the best DefRtg this postseason. Even if you look at game 1 of the finals - Spurs offense was pretty average(108.2 points per 100 possesions), but they won game 1 on defense. For comparison OKC averaged 112.5 points per 100 possesions in last years finals, despite Harden struggling and Westbrook being average. Spurs didn't win a title while being more offensive minded in past few years, the reason why they might win it this year is improved defense(Splitter in starting lineup).
22, 11 and 5.5.... that's cute. Big O in 62' played point, scored 30, dished 11.4 and grabbed 12.5 boards per game. Lebron, Michael and Wilt are all jealous of this statistical season. For anyone giving Magic the nod, the one stat that stands out is FG%. Magic shot .520 for his career. His best shooting season was .561 and the year he had the most ppg he shot .522. Any argument against Magic should start with his 3 pt %. Lifetime .303 ain't exactly special and a dominant pg uses the long ball to stretch defenses. I'll take the Big O every day of the week. Magic was great, but Big O takes the edge for me with his rebounding and the extra points.
