hell yah dude. there is a lot of that american math rock that is pretty much just punk rock with guitar tapping, less power chords, and a little less "powerful" they try to incoporate the punk rock energy as much as possible. last song I'll send you before you hit me with another in the future haha
Everyone has already posted most of the greats so I'll just add Ian Astbury to the discussion. E: Buck and Bob already brought him up. So i'll throw in Matt Bellamy from Muse -- dude has Freddy Mercury level pipes.
I like: Steve Perry Freddie Mercury Dave Matthews Adam Duritz Don Henley John Fogarty Billy Joel Neil Diamond Prince Eddie Vedder
Dude SUCKS live tho; at least w/the Cult he does. Saw them open for Metallica around 89/90 and he wouldn't sing the lyrics in time, just a lot of "whooping and yeahing" but not the proper lyrics. Did see him front the 21 Century Doors and that was quality. A few more not mentioned; Greg Allman Paul Westerberg Leon Russell Joe Cocker Rob Tyner from the Motor City 5 Gaz Combes from Supergrass And all of the members of the Moby Grape, perhaps the most unknown & underrated band of all time;
Tera Melos is the band in your avatar, right? I will check it out after work today. Yup, the energy of mathrock is straight from punk.
