Since this is very very hard to decide, I'll limit it to bands not mentioned yet. Green -- R.E.M. Ben Folds Five -- Ben Folds Five Our Time in Eden -- 10,000 Maniacs I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One -- Yo La Tengo File Under: Easy Listening -- Sugar Honorable mention, under those constraints: most anything else by R.E.M. or Ben Folds, most anything by Sleater-Kinney or Portishead, most anything touched by DJ Shadow, soundtracks for Magnolia, Singles, and Good Morning Vietnam Stuff I was pleasantly surprised to see listed above: Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, Dare to be Stupid, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back Stuff I was unpleasantly surprised to see listed above: ... well, there's no need to go there. Lists that I own 4 of: red (no Dark Side) and NCStateFan (the first 4) Lists that I own all 5 of: Chievous Minniefield's Radiohead overview, in which he reversed #3 and #5 I also recently bought Kind of Blue, but I also haven't had time to listen to listen to it.
1. Iowa- slipknot 2 Self titled-slipknot 3. Lateralus-Tool 4. Hybrid Theory- Linkin Park 5.- Aenima-Tool Honorable mention- Dysfunction- Staind, Wisconsin Death Trip-Static X
Chievous, My question is the reverse of this one. I'm going to get Amnesiac eventually, but I want to know if I would like it considering that my 3 Radiohead CDs (in order of purchase) are OK Computer, The Bends, and Kid A. I like all 3 immensely but Kid A may be my favorite right now because it's so techno/electronica. However, OK Computer and The Bends are greater albums. Also, the same question goes for Pablo Honey. So, if you already have OK Computer, The Bends, and Kid A, would you even come close to liking Amnesiac and Pablo Honey?
Wow Nomar, you know your p*rn stars! When I first heard her music (http://www.devonmusic.com), I did a search on Gnutella for more to see if it was all that good. ALL that came up was pr0n.
Hmmm, very tough call indeed. 1) Metallica - And Justice for All... 2) Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 2 3) Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 3 4) Dream Theater - Awake 5) Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction I know I am forgetting something. Personally, if we do the "box sets allowed" I could replace 2 and 3 with my Led Zeppelin box set that contains every CD by them. But that seems unfair.
I will assume, DBC, based on the other CD's you chose as your current favorites that you are referring to Rage Against the Machine here. I know this sounds like a picky thing, but I just wanted to point out to all the fans who like RATM that there is indeed a band named "Rage" (whom I feel make better music, but that is just me). Secondly, I thought you were a big Pink Floyd fan?
Ah I knew we had more in commen than just goin to SJC! Except, as far as Metal-claw goes, Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning are by far better albums imo.
Thank you for clarifying that discrepancy. Still very much so, but the rankings of my favorites change drastically. Today they could be 11th tomorrow they could be 3rd.
Alas, I must admit that I never really went to San Jac. I just attended all the basketball games there, if I could. For the price, it was and still is the best basketball you can watch, up close and personal. Not too many people can say they have Steve Francis's autograph from before he even went to Maryland. And as for the Metallica albums...it is a tough call. I went back and rethought it, and I do think that Master of Puppets is as good if not better than Justice, but I do like both of them better than Ride the Lightening. I also neglected to mention that Puppets contains my favorites song by 'Talica, that being "Battery."
Only 5? this is going to be tough.. Ok, in no certain order... Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here Radiohead - OK Computer Phish- The Siket Disc Beatles- White Album Miles Davis - Kind of Blue Honorable Mention- Radiohead- Kid A, The Bends Beatles- Magical Mystery Tour, Revolver, Rubber Soul Zabriskie Point Soundtrack - Feat. Pink Floyd, Jerry Garcia 311- GrassrootsFrank Zappa - One Size Fits All Miles Davis- Sketches of Spain, b****es Brew, Agharta Charles Mingus- The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
I don't have enough time to pick out just five. Here are some bands/singers that I like that haven't been mentioned yet, in no particular order: Bruce, BB King, Van Morrison, Stones, Stevie Ray, Willie, Jerry Jeff, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, Lightning Hopkins, Ted Hawkins, Bonnie Raitt, Grateful Dead, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, ZZ Top, George Thoroughgood, CSNY, Santana, Jimmy Buffett .... I listen to stuff of more recent vintage, but it has been well covered.
My question is the reverse of this one. I'm going to get Amnesiac eventually, but I want to know if I would like it considering that my 3 Radiohead CDs (in order of purchase) are OK Computer, The Bends, and Kid A. well, I bought them in the following order: OKC, Bends, Pablo [all before Kid A came out], then Kid A, Amnesiac. since you've already got the middle 3 [and the best 3, in my opinion], it really just comes down to a simple question: do you want to buy a historically interesting, guitar-driven record by a band back when it was still trying to figure themselves out? or do you want to buy a musically diverse, hodgepodge mix of experimentation by a band that is back to trying to figure themselves out? if you're more a fan of guitars and melody, I'd get Pablo Honey before you get Amnesiac. if you're more a fan of electronica and experimentation, I'd go with Amnesiac. there's great stuff [in my opinion] on both records. there's probably more stuff that I don't like on Amnesiac. I can listen to Pablo Honey and only skip maybe one song. with Amnesiac, I skip more like 3 or 4, depending on what mood I'm in. no matter which way you cut it, though, they're the greatest thing going right now. since simon & garfunkel retired. the important thing is that you've already got the 3 that you absolutely must have. by the way, have you ever heard the Paul Oakenfold remix of "Street Spirit"? hope that helps. . .

Hello, I couldn't find your email addy, so I am posting here. A good source for Oakenfold would be off kazaa.com to get some of his MP3s. Also, try www.tranceaddict.com for some good tunes.
As DeNiro would say, "Are you talking to me?" Click on the second icon to the left and you will be able to email me. Anything techno/electronica/trip hop/drum-n-bass/trance is stuff that I'm interested in.
Top 5: U2 Joshua-Tree (interesting, many others' pick too) Pink Floyd-The Wall (tough call over DSM--both also picked) LZ4 Brother's Keeper- Neville Brothers (powerful, soulfull, fantastic) Moby's current album (don't even know the title, got to go with something new and think it is really unique, creative and interesting) Honorable Mention: Tommy, pick one of many from Beattles, Nothing Shocking, Ride the Lightning, Mother's Milk, LA Women
