1. The Empire Strikes Back - of course. 2. The Terminator - one of the earliest action movies where the biggest star is the bad guy. 3. Conan the Barbarian - not the freak show with Wilt Chaimberlain 4. Aliens - Took a really good horror movie and turned it into a kick-ass action movie. Formed the basis for some of the dialogue in Starcraft over 10 years later. 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark - by far the best in the Indiana Jones saga.
What? No Better Off Dead?? It was the first hint of the greatness that was to become John Cusak. "It's tentacles. N - t. Big difference."
Plains, Trains, and Automobiles Vacation Weird Science Rocky III Superman II Honorable Mention: Fletch Rocky IV Back to the Future European Vacation This is Spinal Tap probably many others I'm forgetting...
Excellent pick!!! Just snuck into the '80's! Freak - Planes, Trains and Automobiles not Plains Excellent pick btw.
Man, no love for one of the most underrated comedies ever, Weekend at Bernie's! Larry - This sucks! I am so unhappy. We should be at a real beach Richard - There are no real beaches. Well we could go to Jones Beach and float aroud in the hospital waste. How bout Coney Island, so we can watch the fish disintegrate in front of our eyes.
greatness - John Cusak - Con Air Alex...what is, three things that didn't mix well! (I liked the movie, but Cusak did a horrible job in a semi-serious role)
I have absolutely no way to respond to someone who uses Con Air as a litmus test for actors' abilities.
Hey...it was Steve Buscemi in his element! (BTW...Better Off Dead is definitely in my top ten of the 80's...my dad and I used to crack up at the trailers for the movie when the two utility workers see Cusak laying in the back of a garbage truck....'Man, that's a shame, folks be throwin' away a perfectly good white boy like that'...ahhh...nothin' like 80's racial sterotyping! )
That soundtrack is still one of my favorites. That would be a great thread huh, favorite 80's soundtracks... 1. Purple Rain 2. The Color Purple 3. The Last American Virgin (Open Arms) 4. Against All Odds 5. An Officer and a Gentleman
The end of "The Last American Virgin" made me want to kick that girl's a$$. How Depressing. Next to Spike Lee, Speilberg has made two of the best films on Blacks in this Country in film history. The Color Purple and Amistad. I find it pretty amazing. It just goes to show how talented an individual he is, that and the fact he can go from "Back to the Future" to "Saving Private Ryan" Does anyone doubt this man's genius.
