Good read. Had forgotten about some of those names. Amazing how different some franchises could have turned out.

    20/20 so they say

How is the #11 pick in the 2000 draft a bigger bust than the #2 and #4 picks? They all had nothing careers

Darko should be #1, 2 and 3, in that list, since Wade, Melo and Bosh were all passed up to pick him.

It's amazing he got $50m during his career.

I remember the 2000 and 2001 drafts very, very well, and they almost totally soured me on the NBA draft. Those were the first times the Rockets had fairly high picks - well, it's not that they were that high - it was more that the Rockets didn't have much going on at the time. I followed those drafts very closely. At the time, I was too naive to not understand that the draft projections of players are occasionally more than a little "inflated." I think probably 2 out of 3 of the lottery picks were busts. This list doesn't even bring up Desagana Diop or Eddie Curry or Eddie Griffin. As far as the actual list goes - Stromile has to be top 5. How is he behind Moiso who was picked well behind him in the same draft. There were some busts from those drafts who aren't even mentioned as busts. Tyson Chandler was supposed to be the next Kevin Garnett. Not developing a shot outside of a dunk makes him a bust in my opinion. There were strong arguments for Battier to be a #1 pick. While he's had a great career, he proved a lot of people wrong by never proving capable of creating his own shot. Who was I most wrong about? Stromile Swift for sure. I thought he was a combination of Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess. Man, was I wrong. Who was I most right about? Really wanted the Rockets to take Joe Johnson, and he's done well.

Greg Oden IS NOT a bust. He proved he can play, the only problem was his injuries. Greg Oden should make the all time injured prone list.

I remember reading an SI magazine issue which had Darko going as the top pick in the near future.

I also remember using that issue as a toilet paper.

Terrible experience, even as a toilet paper.

For the few minutes he was on court he was pretty efficient:

    Code:

If he could maintain that for 35 minutes and not break down he would have got a max contract.

If you are selected at 10, 11, or 12 you should automatically be immune to being labeled a draft bust. Some of these guys, Moiso, Swift etc. don't deserve to be here

but if i remember correctly, Darko's pick was not exactly controversial when it happened. Sure it looks stupid as hell now, but at that time most NBA analysts and draft boards all picked him as a top 3 pick.

sure he's a bust, because of his constant injuries he's contribution to his team is even much worse than the other draft busts on this list.
